The first few pages of this thread are gonna look pretty hilarious if Luke Kornet ends up helping us win a chip.

I hated Kornet for a long time but even I have to eat my crow and admit this dude is more than solid. He’s come a long way in a short time into a capable NBA big man. He’s gonna get a big ole bag in the offseason from some team out there

Still standing by this hot take.

Hopefully he'll just take 3/$8M or whatever they can offer him because he likes it here or something.

I'd like to see Kornet breakout his 3. -- He's like a 32% Career 3pt shooter. Just another weapon.
They'd have to pay him a few more bucks, if he re-added that.

Luke seems to be growing into the role Rob had as the selfless big who plays well off JT as a screener, ball mover, play finisher and rim protector. Last year Rob had the best two man net rating with Tatum of any Celtic and this regular season Kornet has the best 2-man net rating with him of any Celtic.

In the playoffs, in short minutes, Luke + JT is an awesome net rating +46.7 per 100 possessions.

So, basically, Luke is killing it in that Timelord role. Good job, Luke…

Naz Reid says Hi. But there aren't many others.

And by the way -- top backup centers traditionally can bag large fractions of the MLE.

By the way, I've lost track.

The Celtics surely have at least Early Bird Rights on Kornet. Do they have full Bird Rights too?

Full. This is his 3rd consecutive season (incl partial near end of 2021-22) with the team.

Not like we talk about load managing Kornet or anything like that, but my gut says he's best in the role he is right now.

I've been the biggest Kornet guy around but not sure his play translates from 8-900 minutes a year to maybe almost twice that.

Kornet just became a true rim threat on offense and a serviceable or better on defense. I don't know what happened but he made a jump last couple of weeks. Like he finally realizes he has a big strong body.
He rebounds, blocks, gets putbacks and puts pressure on defense inside which opens the game a bit. He also sets great picks.

I also think that he fits better with the starters than Horford. Horford is great but he lacks that inside pressure Kornet brings.

I will surely get flamed for this... he will get minutes in the Finals and those will be mostly positive minutes.

Any news on his availability? If healthy, I'd assume he plays some as well. Obv, dependent on how fully back KP is.

He was listed as available for ECF G4. Joe just rightly elected not to use him (Pacers play too fast for him... and Sam). 10 days to have the wrist get even better. Barring injury in practice, he's good to go for the Finals.

I think he'll be very helpful in the finals as a lob defender, he knows where to be and is tall enough to do it. It's a significant part of the Mavs offense and Tillman probably isn't going to be as good against it. Hopefully the long layoff gives Al fresh legs and we get KP back so the minutes for anyone else are fairly short.
