These impact metrics take on more meaning as the season goes on, so with a grain of salt at this point. Simons is ranked 126 in EPM Wins and 112 in LEBRON WAR. Not really too shabby at all for a guy in his role. He is the 64th highest paid player this season so he is not leaving up to his salary, but he is really doing a decent job for his role on this team so far.
That said I’d still trade him for Myles Turner or Nic Claxton etc.
Jordan Walsh goes top 10 in a 2023 redraft.

Attention seeking? Or truth? He a streak shooter-- when he's hot he's hot-- but almost never when you need him to be.

All you have to do is look at the plus-minus to understand why Simons has no future in Boston unless the franchise decides to tank.

About half of that must have been from last night.

You'll have to point to a specific post, but the posts I referred to were clearly attention seeking behavior. A low effort joke posted for no reason other than because someone else was speaking positively about Simons, and another post making a joke insinuating two people enjoying the Simons thread was tantamount to acting as his agent. Little dramatic, yeah?

That's attention seeking behavior.

Like, they didn't say anything about anything that me and Hal were discussing. They just interrupted rudely.

If i seriously have to explain this to adults I might as well stop posting on the Celtics board again. I get the impression I'm a bad fit here.

More than half. But he is still a net +…..He is no Jordan Walsh or anything but he is a very useful player as an off the bench scorer.

I’m in the Simons camp. He can light it up very quickly and that’s a great thing to have from a bench player. If he doesn’t have it you can limit his minutes and go with someone else that game. But he can literally win you games sometimes if he gets hot.

Yes you can win you a game if he gets hot and he can lose a game at the other end. As currently constituted the Celtics have better options at the shooting guard position

He was JUST getting into a decent rhythm with Garza when the trap door opened on Luka. PnR play still a work in progress for ALL of our ballhandlers, but he's got longer to go to mesh with Queta.

agreed. He's a tool in the tool box. If he's your primary weapon, you are tanking. If he's your current possible fringe 6MOY candidate who helps you some nights and is whatever on others in a season where you hope to make the playoffs, you're fine.

My hope remains he's here all season, and then if both sides want to consider an extension around MLE $, then Brad has a possibility worth considering.

From the get go, Simons was dissed for his poor defense. While I will not argue that he is a good defender, he is much better than some are willing to give him credit for, and is improving. Coaching, culture, support from his team mates, all are factors. It looks like he is buying in, and giving effort on the defensive end. Is anyone else seeing that? There was a particular sequence at the end of the first quarter where Anfernee completely stopped the player he was guarding (Nick Smith?). Sure, there may be days when he is not getting it done, but as Parasite said, when he doesn't have it, limit his minutes/go with someone else.

Simons hasn't been great but he hasn't been bad either and this gives me some validation in that he's been very capable of being at the least passable on defense. He still might get moved. And as someone said, Pritchard is so good at what he does I think he could still provide it from the bench while having Simons start and I think you would get more from Simons as a starter. But it's fine.

Meanwhile, the Garza experience at least on defense has not been good. His effect on everyone has been negative.

I'm not an advanced stats guru, but trying to take a quick look, Simons ranks:
5th among Celtics who actually play (ditching Ron Harper Jr) in +/- so far: https://www.nba.com/stats/team/1610612738/onoffcourt-traditional?dir=D&sort=PLUS_MINUS
1. Queta +7.3
2. White +5.4
3. Pritchard +5.1
4. Walsh +4.7
5. Simons +3.2
6. Jaylen +2.9
7. Hauser +2.7
8. Minott +2.5
9 tie. Hugo +2.4
9 tie. Baylor +2.4

For DEFENSIVE RATING among Celtics rotation players, Simons is 8th, ahead of only Jaylen, Hauser, Garza, and Tillman:
https://www.nba.com/stats/team/1610612738/players-advanced?dir=A&sort=DEF_RATING

FWIW, Simons' DEFENSIVE RATING is two points *better* than that of Zubac, and Simons' defensive rating is #303 out of 495 players this season (sorry I don't know how to filter out the guys who have played few games or few minutes):
https://www.nba.com/stats/players/advanced?dir=A&sort=DEF_RATING
Mitchell Robinson is #302 and Dillon Brooks is #312

TAKEAWAY: Yes, Simons seems to have made progress defensively, from pretty much worst in the league to just somewhat below average, but flirting with average.

Kid is a good scorer and I am sure it is difficult to play in the role he is. He's played well at times and is giving effort. Celtics are 14-9, I am sure he likes being on a playoff team.

I was in Simon's camp before this season. And I still recognize his talent. but not as much now.not Because he has played good or bad. But rather the idea of playing jordan walsh minott and Hugo more. None of the younger trio can provide the same instant offense as Simons, but their all around game, defensive, length and energy with still adequate shooting and scoring I think would provide boston with a much better overall unit.
