The competition in China and style of play is wack but he's shown me enough for me to think he can hit 3's and drive closeouts. On D he has the strength to push 4's and maybe 5's off their spots and the quickness to guard small ball 4's. He also has enough quickness to not get destroyed if switched onto a guard. Should be able to rebound with the large body of his. He may not be an allstar but I can certainly see him succeeding in the NBA.

You're describing Anthony Mason, but with a 3-pt shot.

Hmm a little before my time but a quick look at his stats and I'd say an improved Mason is not a terrible result at 16. I see people say he's not an NBA caliber player and I disagree with that.

Mason's peak was 3rd team all-NBA.

You don't have to be Albert Einstein to see Yabusele is in for next year and KO is out.

Yabusele at $2 million > Olynyk at $15+ million.

Ainge knows what he is doing.

The crummy part is it's extremely unlikely that Yabu can fill in as well.

Well, when you put it that way.

Yabusele, Žižić, and even Nader, are all going to be Steals-of-Deals.

I've only watched highlight reels of Yabu and Zizic. I just can't tell how good or bad these guys are against the competition they're facing.

In the interview with Blakeley posted yesterday, Austin Ainge was raving about Yabs development and tools. Austin Ainge was just in China and said Yabs presently weighs 280 pounds...with 6 percent body fat. Also said his per 100 possession ratings were 126 for offense and 102 for defense...which is MVP material in any league. Austin pretty much shot down the idea that Yabs can't defend in the NBA. It could well be a strength.

You can't tell from the Highlights? -- What do you need?

They're not in the NBA now. So, you're not going to see that. And most player assessments are done by Highlights anyway, right? Unless you're going and watch whole games, like Austin Ainge did.

Another way to think of him is Big Baby Davis, but he could defend what Tommy would call "quick forwards" and wasn't a Big Baby. Very solid choice as 6th man of the year. When he was a big-minutes starter/all-star/third-team all-NBA, either his body started to break down or else teams got better at countering him; in any case, that peak didn't last very long.

Not a crazy line of reasoning. Have to skimp SOMEWHERE.

That said, the only assured big-man minutes are Horford's. Horford/Zizic/Olynyk/Yabu/Crowder/Brown, for 3 positions, is not that bad a logjam.

And THAT said, given cap room and more Nets picks and so on, we're looking to add yet more talent, so indeed at some point there's a logjam somewhere.

6% fat = 16.8 pounds of his total weight, that's freaky lean. Yet he's girthy built, reminds me a bit of Bass, but has more range and overall skills.

I thought he was down to 250? I thought they sent him there for health reasons and earlier this year read they had him down ten pounds ton 250?

280 is way too much weight??

Based on what? Draymond Green is the prime example that size is not always decisive, but he has a lot of other intangibles that makes him elite on the defensive end. Some of these things can be learned, others not. I don't think he'll be a plus defender in the NBA anytime soon.

Based, I assume, on Austin Ainge watching him practice and play extensively in Europe and China and assessing him as a scout. Or maybe he just pulled it out of his ass to see what it would smell like. You'd have to ask him. Maybe Austin and Danny never considered the points you are raising.

The point is that the kneejerk "this guy is too fat" or "this guy can't play NBA defense" should probably be sidelined until he gets over here and is on the team.

Zizic came off the bench and scored 4 pts in 16 minutes against Barcelona in his first game in Euroleague.
He also had 6 rib,2steal and 2 bs. Not a bad start !

I think he absolutely has the physical capability to be a good defender. The effort and awareness is not there right now. He has a few highlight defensive plays a game, but in totality, he is still a liability on that side of the ball.
