How is it then that we actually have guys on here questioning the general basketball acumen of women compared to men?

It's some borderline mutinous ****, imo, which normally I'm down for but come the **** on with this stuff.

How about Kyrie for Three too?

Come on guys. You saw the heat Cam Newton took this year for saying similar sexist stuff to this, rightfully so.

KyrieForThree and Shak_Celts are amazing posters. Both better than I could ever be with a better knowledge of basketball. They have elevated this forum a ton in recent years and we are lucky to have them. And we have great new guys here like MagicBagley as well.

But I'm talking about something else: Coach Mang IS this forum. She's always going to be the best poster on this forum and she's always going to be our real leader. It's absolutely ridiculous that we have dudes questioning women's brains/intellegence on some abstract pseudoscience **** given those facts. No one else's name stays at the top of this forum. For a reason.

I still haven't seen a single good reason to not integrate more female refs into the league. Because there isn't one.

Nice shot at the military. Did more than you ever could and even I don’t feel I did that much. However what that has to do with anything is beyond me but coming from you it isn’t surprising. I have a college degree but I know I am chatting with a Rhodes Scholar and Mensa member so I can understand how my views are seen as substandard.

So I will break it down into simple terms. I don’t care if all coaches are women. Or men. If a woman is better coach for the Celtics for instance, fire Brad and hire her. If all coaches are men and are best for the job, so be it as well. Whomever is best is the best. I just don’t like forcing things on people. People are generally good at hiring the best and you can always look to integrate without mandating or hinting at mandating.

Thanks for your service. Come from a military/LE family myself, and I have hired several disabled combat vets. They are as loyal to me as I am to them. Back to you, you were Air Force, no? For starters, women are second class citizens across all military branches and are routinely subject to open hostility, abuse, and assault. The Air Force is also by far the least egalitarian of all branches, and feel free to google that word. So you might not be the best point of reference here. The fact that you started this topic just to slam women and the "social justice warriors" in your head says as much, and quite frankly, illustrates some deep-rooted hangups on your end of the equation. Especially given that you are still hung up on the issue of Silver mandating this after being corrected about a link you posted but did not read.

You also might have missed the memo that women and minorities don't need your permission slip in 2019 to do much of anything. Law of averages would states that roughly half of all new hires in most fields would be women, and that if you are down to around 5-10%, maybe you have a problem with your hiring practices. There is legitimately no reason whatsoever that a woman could not ref a game as well as a man. There is genuinely no genetic advantage whatsoever.

I would offer that the issue here is not anyone being a social justice warrior so much as you being a misogynistic neanderthal. Also hugely ironic that you bring this up about the NBA, which has long been at the forefront of promoting social progress.

Sweet baby jesus. Now you are using your old tired military family etc to cover up your personal attack. Thats fine because thats how you roll. You thank for the service, and then you transition into taking a shot at the Air Force. Funny, I flew with many women, worked with women maintainers, life support and more that I would put my life in their hands without blinking an eye. I advocated for promotions for women and men based upon merit. For you to call me a “misogynistic neanderthal” is comical and shows how low you will sink to insult someone.

Also Yahoo Sports link. What does that say? Or google Adam Silver women. What are the article headers?

Speaking of Coach..always felt like we wouldn't do anything in the playoffs without a coach mang dogz of war thread. Idk if she posted in a game thread or something but no playoff without a dogz of war hype up is championship worthy. She must have known this team didn't deserve a Keltic Pride post.. :(

Not sure where people are getting the idea of some sort of mandate from. It is clearly an aspirational comment that Silver obviously thinks should be the NBA's goal, not some enforced quota that is going to come into effect tomorrow.

And industry leaders like Silver need to voice these ideas, because any NBA coach or referee (male or female) needs to work their way up through the various levels to reach the top of their field, and that starts at the grass roots level which is usually influenced and driven by what is happening at the top. If Silver makes these sorts of targets a priority, then hopefully is assists changes in attitudes at the grass roots level where all of this begins. If you get similar levels of male/female participation reffing and coaching at junior levels, then high schools, then colleges, then G-League, then you raise the possibility of taking gender out of the equation when it reaches the NBA.

And if you have a problem with an industry leader like Silver voicing these sorts of goals, then you are probably part of the problem/mentality that prevents equity being established in (unnecessarily) male dominated areas.

And there you go again. Personal attacks and disparaging a branch of the military, again, of which you never served in any of them. See, you keep on digging that hole. I know this is an echo chamber for the most part for you, and you seem to get away with personal attacks with seemingly no repercussions. Thats fine because I enjoy seeing you contradict yourself left and right. Before you go and say you weren’t name calling or disparaging the Air Force in any way shape or form, newsflash you were and that is highly disrespectful not to me, but to the Air Force and those who serve. You will try to weasel your way out no doubt but hey, at least you are good at something.

I linked one article from Yahoo in which the lead was Silver Wants....yet you ignore it. CNN had the same lead. Silver Wants. Key word Wants. So I guess you should fire off an angry email to the editors at those organizations right? It is all basically semantics and when Silver says something like that about this, it will happen. Why? Because of reactions from people like you against differing opinions. I in no way have stated women shouldn’t be coaches. Or referees. Point out where I said that. That would be misogynistic. I haven’t and again, before you say well you are against Silvers idea, yeah I am, and again I would say the same if it was a situation involving men. So does that mean I hate women AND men? By your logic I must.

Again, here we go.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/10/sport/adam-silver-wants-more-women-as-referees-and-coaches-in-nba-trnd/index.html

See the word WANT?

"The goal is going forward, it should be roughly 50-50 of new officials entering in the league," he said. "Same for coaches, by the way. We have a program, too. There's no reason why women shouldn't be coaching men's basketball."

Ether that.

Brother, what is the problem if the word he uses is ‘want’? Who cares? It is a goal he wants to see for the NBA.

Silver is a smart guy, he would know what he is talking about is probably going to take decades to occur (if it ever happens).

It seems like you think he is going to legislate for it tomorrow, I just don’t see it that way.

The NBA is the pinnacle of basketball, you are still going to have to be one of the best qualified to make it there, but at the moment the applicants are 99.9% male, that is what I think Silver is talking about.

Maybe. Maybe not. Let the process play out instead of throwing the 50 percent number out. Thats why I care. You end up hiring women that are set up to fail and that sets that process backwards. Again, if it was a women dominated occupation and they demanded men st a 50 percent rate, I would say the same thing.

Over 100 years of race/gender relations calls BS on this entire post. Certain people STILL don't want to have things "forced" on them. People are generally good at hiring who they WANT not hiring who the best is. Take a look at history, integration is almost ALWAYS forced and rarely without pushback from those who would swear this is a meritocracy all while consciously or unconsciously still serving the status quo.

Well this thread got interesting.

Who do we want to win between Toronto/Philly? I feel dirty cheering for either irrelevant franchise, but hoping Philly pulls it out and then proceeds to get swept by the Bucks.

Mods - just create a new current affairs forum and let this stuff live there. Whoever wants to partake can. It'll get heated sometimes but whatever. Mostly we did really well when we had the last one.

I am coming from the standpoint that we as a culture have matured in the past 100 years. I know you probably think we live in 1964 again and all that but we don’t and thank god. Pop opened the door, and it has been proven to be a good move by all accounts. The NFL hired the first woman referee and every time she did a game I watched she was spot on. In other words I thought she was betetr than most other referees. You don’t need to force anything anymore just let it grow organically. If in the end 75 percent of coaches are women that would be awesome but again, let it grow organically as it already is.

If that is BS to you then fine. You would be saying we as a culture are incapable of making correct and just decisions which would mean we haven’t grown at all. I choose to believe we have.

OK, everyone just take a freaking timeout from the "all things other than basketball" BS please. I've got nothing to do today other than watch the Bruins kick butt and have some beverages. I'd like to do that in peace, however, I can multitask like no other the more beverages I have have, so chill please and thank you in advance.
