Does anyone know our salary cap situation with these latest moves? Do we have room to sign players outright without using the MLE, etc?

Have the mini mid(near 5) and bi annual(near 3) at the moment, plus those two small trade exceptions just aquired. If Hayward walks it opens up the full mid level(near 10).

Trust the process guys. So many people seem to dislike Danny on this board but we were still one of the last 4 teams standing last year. Especially since some people here didn’t think we would even make the playoffs and losing that player that went to the Nets and Horford.

And here is the bad news. Everyone is playing for 2nd place. Unfortunately the lakers will repeat it Lebron and AD stay healthy. The got better than last year with 2 recent huge additions to their roster.

That being said, I want us to have the best team as possible like everyone else here.

Not my first choice, but if McDermott is part of the deal, it’s not bad.

He is coming off a career year. He played about 20 minutes a game and averaged 10 points. He also shot 49% from the field and nearly 44% on 3s on 4 attempts her game.

I don’t know if we have room for him too play that much here, but he is another shooter. And a pretty good one.

40% career 3 point shooter on his final year of contract. Why are people so opposed to his addition?

According to this forum , Dannys getting blamed for dogs pooping in peoples yards all over the country.

It's like people are internalizing the lack of trade onto Danny.

There is another team involved and a player , all of which have a say.

not to mention the deal could already be done and we are trying to do some others things salary wise that will affect the team, and need to be done in a certain order. I take common sense for granted sometimes, reading these threads make me realize, common sense isn't so common.

If we get fleeced by Indiana, that would give this crowd a chance to complain about Ainge again. Win-win.

I'm not saying don't negotiate. What I'm trying to get at is if you're holding out to make the deal marginally better and you're missing out on signing FA's I don't think waiting is worth it.

That's fair. The reality is that the Celtics have likely been negotiating with multiple free agents and something will happen sooner or later. It's not like everybody on the Celtics is listening in on an ongoing three-day-long phone call with Indiana. For all we know, we may already have verbal agreements with players that the media have no idea about.

It’s hard to have a deal in place if you don’t know if you’ll have the full mid level available. That only leaves us with the bi annual and minimums. I doubt someone like Ibaka or Thompson would wait to see if salery opens up if they have guaranteed offers elsewhere.

Indy has no leverage. Hayward has no leverage. Boston has no leverage.

This is 3 people, operating in good faith, where there really isnt a deal. Someone is going to have to make a bad deal to get this done.

There is no deal here IMO unless you can convince Boston that turner is a positive asset that will improve the Team materially.

Have Indiana give up a budding high end scorer

Or

Hayward takes a massive pay cut to sign with Indy.

I think out of the 3, Boston has the most leverage. Hayward loses leverage when each team with capspace left spends money. He's not leaving Boston to play for the Hornets or Knicks.

And Indiana loses leverage each day knowing that Oladipo is damaged goods, and that Hayward is their best shot at landing a good wing player if/when Oladipo leaves. Even when the Pacers are flush with capspace, the only FA that would willingly go there will be locked into a deal with the Celtics.

Give us a pick, a pick swap, or Goga if you really want us to take McDermott. Danny shouldn't even answer the calls unless the Pacers give in on one of those demands.

In the meantime, Danny should be working the phones looking for a Center and a veteran PG.

Your last bit is what gives Indy leverage. Danny can't afford to wait as long as Indy can, because they're not winning much next season anyway, and hence have less need of vet additions.

Also, once the best FAs are taken, foisting McDermott off on somebody might become easier.

I disagree. The Pacers have never tanked. Ever. What's the highest pick they've ever received in the draft? I'm not sure they've ever had one in the top 5. They know that if they throw away the season, fans won't come to games. Hayward is a guy who will keep them competitive, and at the very least, keep fanbase interest high since they love their local guys.

100% true. But if we have interest in either of those players, then we'd already know if either is interested in us (and if they're fine with waiting for us to finish other business first).
