Who's going to pay horford more than what Kemba got with the Knicks? My initial question was, if we decline his option / waive him and pay him 14.5 million next year are we allowed to also sign him to a new contract in free agency? I could see him taking a modest 2 or 3 year deal knowing he still has money from the Philly contract for another year too. Maybe we waive him and sign 3 for 20 (plus the 14.5 mil he's already entitled to).
Similarly, if we trade him, then someone else is on the hook for that 14.5 mil when they waive him in the off-season. In that scenario can he still resign here if he's been traded away and waived by another team? Is it a league year thing or calendar year?
