Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread, part 2 – (June 26 & 27)
Just remember we all have no clue about what other players and agents are saying to Celtics players (and others) about possibly joining the Celtics on a vet min. Brad Stevens in his interview yesterday almost started talking about that and then stopped quickly (potential tampering). Stevens might already know what vet players are interested in joining the Celtics and it may alter his selections in the draft.

This was my observation. I managed to find one full game, and then all highlights. I think he is actually better offensively than Sam, but that trade off probably is defense.
Baylor really plays mind games on where he’s going to shoot from. Kinda fun to watch

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread, part 2 – (June 26 & 27)
I've been saying this for two months now, in my opinion Jaylon Tyson is the pick if he is there at #30.
Tyson 6'6" that can play PG, SG and SF and can get buckets. Shooting 47% FG, 36% #PT and 80% FT. Solidify the backcourt. Big men are a dime a dozen in 2024-2025 NBA.
Tyson has helped his standing in the pre-draft process with strong workouts showing his guard skills and versatility after an outstanding season at Cal.
At 6-foot-7 in shoes, he can play a variety of roles on or off the ball with his passing and budding shot-making prowess.
The Celtics have quite a bit of flexibility at their disposal coming off winning the NBA championship and having their entire core intact, but adding a potential rotational wing with skill would be helpful considering their avenues for adding talent will get narrower soon with the punitive new second apron rules that go into effect this summer. -- Givony

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread, part 2 – (June 26 & 27)
Gary Washburn from the Globe:
They could use 30 on another draft-and-stash player, but using first-round picks on players who may take three or four years to develop is not economically feasible in today’s NBA. That’s one of the primary reasons why Stevens traded out of the first round last year and selected Arkansas forward Jordan Walsh with a second-round pick.
“We’ve got a lot of guys back,” Stevens said. “It will be hard for any draft pick to crack our rotation when healthy. And so we’ll think about how we can best continue to invest in young players and their development and growth with the reality that we’re able to continue to move forward with this group.
“This will be a good opportunity to bring in somebody we think will help us down the road.
“As far as the picks go, if the right person is available at 30, then we’ll take him. If we have a couple of people we still think are the right person, we’ll see what our options are and what flexibility we have.”

Hard to imagine we will be taking projects unless they are stash guys. Hoping for a big that can play now and a stash big.

Getting Filipowski is doable.
But trading up has zero chance of happening.
Cs might even trade out of the 1st round.
New CBA is forcing the Cs to stand pat.

Can't panic and overpay for a guy likely to be 8th-10th for the next 2 season though. That would be Knick-like lol. I think Brad is an opportunistic guy, willing to pay more than Ainge, but also not willing to overpay when you're coming off a title especially.

Not a good look then. If he's a better all-around player than Hauser, but worse shooter and slower of foot, he's going to have a hard time getting on the court. Hauser has that one killer skill in shooting, otherwise he would not be in the rotation. I'm thinking we need a complimentary guy this year, not a replacement, and deal with the Hauser signing when the time comes.
So, not thrilled with Scheierman, but he'd be OK at 30 if Brad thinks he's best available.

Tyson is the 14th ranked prospect on my board. So you could get a lottery level prospect with the 30th pick.. (There's 1 guy on Draft Twitter who does a ton of research and film/stat breakdowns who posted his big board yesterday and has Tyson ranked 6th overall)
Like his combination of size, strength, athleticism, shooting, playmaking ability to handle the ball, run PnR, create his own shot, (played quite a bit of PG this season at Cal) and is decent on D..can rebound too.
He knows how to play..
Age 21.5 so he is a little bit further along in his development so more ready to contribute than a 18-20 yr old kid, while at the same time still young enough (not 22 or 23) that he's got some upside and room for growth..
I kind of doubt he'll still be on the board..and do think there's still a chance we trade out of the 1st round but I would be very happy if we landed Tyson..
FWIW, I've done 2 mock drafts with people from Draft Twitter in the past few days..in both of them I drafted Tyson at 30 and Enrique Freeman at 54 for Boston.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

In my bizarro movie version of the offseason, the Celtics pick Scheierman, and both he and Hauser show up to first day of training camp wearing Spiderman costumes, draining threes and pointing at each other a lot.

Enrique Freeman has really grown on me.

Brad being transparent about the reality of new NBA rules. So maybe he trades back if going the stash route and selects young upside, but I think this year he might actually use the first, going for the best available upperclassman that is at least semi-elite in one needed area.

Oh boy, things are getting real. 2 more guys have been added to the Celtics pre-draft workout lists:
Cam Christie
Keshad Johnson
Both guys who have been mentioned on here quite a bit - the Celtics staff definitely reads this board (half kidding)..
That now makes FOURTY players who the C's have worked out over the past few weeks:

There might be others too, that just have ben't been reported..

I think you pretty much hit on it. If the Celtics stay at 30 it means they wanted one guy who they could not trade back for and still get. That guy has got to be worth it, which means he's got to have a skill that gives him an avenue to see the floor in a year or two. And that guy has got to have been a slider for the Celtics with no one else on the same tier.
The chances of any 2024 draft picks playing real minutes anywhere but Maine are remote. If it happens, great, but it would be a fluke of some sort.

Main things I’m looking to come away with over the next two days is more size and more athleticism. If it’s Tyson or Mogbo along with a big like Bona I’d be estatic. Bona still my first choice but I’m coming around on wings like Dadiet, Tyson and Mogbo

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread, part 2 – (June 26 & 27)
Tyson and Freeman would be a good haul. I'm surprised at how much I like this draft. Not top-heavy, and not much hype, but there will be rotation players available.
If I was Brad I would consider giving the 30th pick to Joe to select. He's really earned it, and if we want a player that will actually contribute next year, it's important that he "gets" Joe, or that Joe gets him.
Tyson seems like he could be a Joe guy. Hard to say. BBIQ is important for a guy to be able to learn the system quickly.
I heard some good reports on Dillon Jones, for example, and watched him do analysis of his own games. Sharp guy. For a young wing/PG to come in and impress Joe with his maturity, that could speak volumes.
Sometimes BPA involves more than the usual metrics. Celtics will look for things like court vision, maturity, chemistry, flexibility and ability to stay the course and be ready when called upon (hard to predict that last one). Tyson, Freeman and Jones seem to fit the bill. I have absolutely no idea who it will be, but Brad is going to get us a player (unless they trade out!)

Celtics have worked out a ton of wing shooters and PF. That should give people a clue about 30 and 54.
