No that was the entire problem you don't need Rondo or a Rondo. That is why nobody really wanted him except for a team with 3 guys who can score 20 ppg. Year after year teams win NBA Championships with nothing that looks Rajon Rondo playing PG for them.

Ainge's problem is that right now this team is actually playing better ball without Rondo on the floor. This team's HC was sitting Rondo down at the end of games because he was kind of killing the offense. Sure you can gamble his play would get better but it had been over a calendar year since he returned from injury and two years since you saw a decent Rondo out there. The guy has been on the market for a while now and I am not sure Ainge has actually had a better offer than an unprotected first and 13 mil trade exception. It isn't going to be a good pick but you know what year your going to get it compared to the offers from DET and SAC.

Basically it is going to come down to what happens with Wright compared to McLemore and Brandon Knight who are both having pretty good years. That is it folks that is what has been on the table. Knight and what would now be a '16 1st from DET or McLemore, maybe Isiah Thomas, and what will now be at soonest a '17 from SAC.

What the heck is so great about it? The crappy 2015 pick? The career bench player who won't be on the team next year? Or is it the second rounder? :x

That's actually not a bad idea by Danny. If Mavs fall out of the playoff race we'll get their pick this year 4-14.. Otherwise they keep it outside the lottery.

It's basically a 2016 1st round pick protection inside the top 7 otherwise.

Juest read this:
There are lottery protections on the 2015 first-round pick headed to Boston, sources said.

It made me laugh.

So this 1st round pick isn't until 2016?

At least our kids might be able to watch a competitive Celtic team down the line. Good for them

With the Mavs loaded up to go for it this year, it actually makes it more likely we get a higher pick in 2016. Four 1st rounders in 2016.

Celtics
Nets (no protection)
Mavs (Top 7 protected)
Cavs (Top 10 Protected)

He's expiring and is arguably not even a top 10 PG anymore.
What else do people expect for him?

Add in the fact that Ainge has inside information and we don't.

Logically we should ponder:
-Was Rondo taking nothing less than the max to play in Boston?
-Were there really any top 10 players that were realistically available in the next 2 seasons to add Rondo?
-Was there a greater chance that he'd leave this summer for nothing?
-Do we risk all of the above AND hurt our shot at a draft which has a top three of:

Okafur
Towns
Muiday....

Losing the magician sucks but I completely understand why Ainge pulled the trigger.
Good for him for having the balls to do this.
Everyone needs to take a breath and realise that this is good for the long term.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

What are you talking about? If it lands between 4-14 then we get it this year, if it doesn't then it's relayed till the 2016 draft. If it lands after #7 in the 2016 draft then we get it. A lot can happen in a year, you just never know.

I remember a team that won a championship and nearly two others with a PG the looks just like Rondo.

Celtics weren't getting Isaiah Thomas from Sac considering he plays for the Suns.

Watch them steal a late round stud right before our LAC pick.

Highly doubt we'll be bad enough to get Okafor, Towns or Mudiay without some help from Silver

You think we're going to get a top 3 pick? That's cute. I don't want to be the one to drop the bad news on your head, but there is absolutely 0 chance of us getting a top 3 pick. Especially now that we know for a fact we aren't getting Dallas's pick this year. How are we supposed to get a top 3 pick exactly?

sully00 wrote:The really strange part of this deal is this team really needs Nelson and Wright's skill set. The idea of being an 8th seed type team with no Rondo doesn't sound exciting now but if in two months we are doing it with Smart in Rondo's role I think Ainge has done his job. Wright gives this team the athleticism and shot blocking it desperately needs in the post, you pick up another '15 draft pick. Wright is just an expiring contract right now but he is only 27 and was a top 10 pick coming into the league and is kind of a modern day Bo Outlaw he may end up being a guy you sign.

I am glad this over and we can move forward we know who we are now and what this team is trying to do. The best part is Rondo went to a great spot for him and now he doesn't really have a reason to go NY or LA and make us hate him. It is easy to root for the Mavs.

Nelson is pretty washed up honestly. I don't expect him to still be here past February, whether it's a trade or buyout.

Nelson is shooting 37% from 3 on 4.5 attempts per game and Boston is shooting 32% from 3 in a run and gun offense. I have no idea what the plan is but if this team wants to try and win games then Nelson is a huge upgrade to Phil Pressey.
