Anthony Bennett, the top draft pick in the 2013 NBA draft, is coming to Portland.

The Maine Red Claws acquired Bennett in a trade Thursday with the Northern Arizona Suns.

The 6-foot-8 power forward was selected No. 1 by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2013 draft. He has played for four NBA teams in his career. This season Bennett played 14 games with Northern Arizona of the NBA’s G League, averaging 11.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He is set to join the Red Claws, pending the completion of a physical.

The Red Claws play a road game Thursday night in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before returning to the Portland Expo at 1 p.m. Sunday versus Lakeland.

Sign Bennett to a Two-Way, and Waive or Trade Kadeem Allen.

I hear the Northern Arizona Suns changed their mind, and now want Jayson Tatum.

We can do that later.
I mean, if he's in the G-League, let's utilize that.

Let's Kick the tires, for a bit.
We can still sign others, w/DPE &/or Trades, etc.

So what is the deal with rights with Bennett as it pertains to the NBA? He's signed to the Red Claws, not to the Celtics, nor on the Celtics roster (as I under it). Does that mean we have first right of 10 day contracts, or anything else, or is he basically a free agent playing with a team with affiliation to the Celtics and this is more an interest point than anything substantial?

Yeah. He's a Free Agent, as far as the NBA is concerned. Celtics have No Rights to him.
Unless we tie him up to a Two-Way, or something.

Bennett hasn't contributed on any professional team he's been on, including the Euroleague. I don't expect that to change.

Always wanted the Celtics coaching staff to work with Anthony Bennett. This is perfect. No need for him to be with the Boston Celtics. They will know through his work at Maine if he could help.

This is purely a business move, nothing else. Bennett wears the same shirt and pant size as Yabusele. Team is saving a few bucks is all.

Yeah.
We could do a 10-Day, or sign him to a Two-Way.

Would he agree to it? I don’t think he stands to gain much from a 2-way and may prefer to go big or go home and try to play for an actual nba contract from someone, even if it’s not us. Now I’m not saying he will or should get one, but that would be his strategy I’d think. And really if he’s being offered a 2-way it wouldn’t be that far fetched to think someone has a roster spot.

Bennett’s problem is not talent. His issue is that the game is too fast for him. At every stop the commentary has been the same - he just can’t think the game at the speed it’s played on the pro level.

Maybe this improves over time and constant exposure, but I’m not betting on it.

Isn't that talent?

Anyways, looks like I get to see a former #1 overall pick on Sunday. Should be interested. I wonder if Danny will be at this one.

I expect very little from Bennett.

I am surprised. He averaged 11.7 points 5.5 rebounds for the NA Suns. Not impressive by D league levels but more than I expected.
