Yeah, Al isn't retiring. He's got at least 1 more year left in him - he's under contract for $10 mil next season.
And we're not getting Wemby or Chet in a trade.

I'm guessing Big Al might even sign another 2 year deal when this one expires for about $5 million per year. It would be worth it for all parties involved.

In the words of Tom Brady, Al Horford can and should play until he sucks.

They are going to find out quickly how a little success all of a sudden increases your payroll.

Kuzma, that's who I'm talking about as Al's replacement.
LOL.
And I would have never guessed that Wemby and Holmgren aren't available.
Can you believe it?
Next, you'll be telling me that Markannen is off the Celtics radar too.
Noooo... Dear Lord, take the blackness away.
Seriously, I don't care how shallow the Big Man Pool of Al replacements is, there has to be someone who can
do a decent job and a team willing to take a chance on multiple picks.
But, what athlete gives up $10 million these days, even though he's 50 percent the player he was, so yes, Al is probably going to be back.
LOL.

We already have Kuzma lite in Jayson Tatum.

Tillman seems pretty good as the Al Horford replacement. Give him a full season and he should fit in even better.
Just has to improve upon those 3's.

If the Celtics win the Championship against Dallas, and Al decides to retire,
Horford and several Firsts for a Young Big who has some scoring, rebounding, passing and 3-point shooting ability.
Horford's dealt, he retires, the Celtics stage an Al Horford Day and perhaps retire his number, to make everything
right in the world...
Kinda hard to react to this without knowing who the mystery young big is. Scoring, rebounding, passing and 3-point shooting? Sounds like Chet Holmgren or Victor Wembanyama.
Obviously it’s both for salary matching purposes

Pritchard has grown into an awesome change of pace bench PG, im not making that trade.
Would love NAW on the team, but to pair in the backcourt with PP

I was thinking the opposite - why the heck would MIN do it?
I still dream of my NAW, Clarke, Claxson draft over Danny's Romeo, Grant, Edwards reality. Sigh.

Idk if it’s a good deal for either side, but as for why they might do it - they need more help at the PG position, they don’t have a lot of assets to improve and only have NAW under contract for one more season as opposed to PP’s four, and they would get another draft asset. Ie, they might prefer the fit, contractual control and financial aspects of the deal.

I think they really like him, but yeah contract always plays a role.
I wonder what Pritchard could fetch in this draft. Could you get one of the Pelicans picks (17 or 21)? Magic maybe at 18? Raps at 19? Springer can be our NAW-type breakout next year given PT. If DaSilva drops, I might consider it.
I dunno. Haven't really thought it thru. NOt sure if he has that value, and/or if I'd do it. I'm just a draft pick whore, so always think about it, lol

Re: Free Agent, Trade & Extensions Thread, 2024-25
So this isn't directly related to this off seaosn but i started thinking about how much contracts might explode in the next 5-10 years so i did some math.
Assuming next years cap is 142 and assuming the cap grows by 10% every year suring the course of the new Tv deal then here's the projected cap in the following years:
24-25: 142.00
25-26: 156.20
26-27: 171.82
27-28: 189.00
28-29: 207.90
29-30: 228.70
30-31: 251.60
31-32: 276.80
In the summer of 2032 Victor Wembanyama will have 8 years of experience and if he's all-NBA level like we expect he could be eligible to sign a super max extension starting at 35% of that 276.80 million with 8% raises a year over 5 years. That would be a 5 year 562 million dollar contract.
Obviously a lot can change in 8 years, and the cap may not rise 10% every year. But the point remains, people are going to need to adapt to some huge numbers.

Probs with those thoughts is that Pritch is a proven backup PG. Springer isnt.
Ideally Walsh replaces Svi next season, begarin replaces walsh.
Still, imo, need a backup scorer who can go and get it off the bench.

Re: Free Agent, Trade & Extensions Thread, 2024-25
Knowing that the cap is going up every year, Brad has no reason not to resign their current players that preform to the teams expectations. That means since Brown, Pritchard and Holiday are already locked up long term:
1) Extending White for 4 years at least, at whatever money it takes.
2) Maxing out Tatum as the first chance available
3) Extending Porzingis when the time comes.
4) Signing Horford to a player option deal at 10 mil for another two years.
5) Extending Hauser on a reasonable contract
6) Extending Kornet, Tillman AND Queta on just a bit above a minimum deal.
Thats 11 roster spots. Add in the rookie deals of Walsh and Springer, along with Brissett's player option contract, we should have 14 roster spots filled. The only one that may come open is Svi's spot. I guess that will depend on what Brad does during the draft. If he uses our first-round pick, then I expect Svi is gone. We do need an athletic score off the bench though, and I don't think Davison is ready for the big team yet, and Walsh is a defender not a scorer, (in my eyes). Really not sure what the stipulations are for us in signing a free agent though.

Yeah, just spitballing, but I think if you do my thing, you bring in a vet min PG as well. Springer on D is miles better than Pritchard, and we'd usually have Tatum or another playmaker out with him. You'd be losing the shooting, and some of that drive under the basket kickouts, but he could have a higher ceiling. Esp if the shot develops. Big IF, though.
