Dallas crushed Phoenix, which is good as long as they don't keep it up.

The first guy off Dallas's bench was old friend Dwight Powell. It'd take a miracle for them to keep this up.

Season has barely started and they're already breaking down.

Brooklyn loses. Dallas wins. Minnesota wins. So it begins.

Caught a little of the Dallas/Phoenix game after the hostage crisis ended (by which I mean, after the kids went to bed). Phoenix's offense looked awful. I was hopeful they'd surprise people and be decent, hopefully they can get it together and be better than Dallas in the long run.

Was anyone else encouraged by Philly? I'm hopeful they can be better than the Nets. Brooklyn did better than I thought but they did play a team on a b2b at the start of the year.

I think we just played horribly at the start. They're going to be really bad with that back court.

Zeller and Lee can't check Okafor and Noel. Okafor started 5/5 and made it look effortless.

Philly could be okay, or could be a disaster again. Nobody knows yet how good Noel, Okafor, or Stauskas are going to be. Noel in particular: he's a defensive force, but his finishing around the rim is really bad, even for a young big. A TS% of .493 from a low usage center is really a problem. Not every team needs to generate offense from their rim protector, but you need them to finish after a rebound when the ball lands in their hands.

Which is more important... Minny win to get their pick or Laker win to be ahead of the Nets?

Not going to lie. I can't vocally root against the Mavericks. I hope they give us the best pick possible, and that they do lose many games, but just like tanking, I can't bring myself to wish losses upon them. Again, Cs for life and their priorities come first, but tonight I say unabashedly, and loudly:

GO MAVERICKS!!!!!!!

And don't worry, I won't say this again until they play the Clippers again. Probably won't discuss the Mavs much here this year.

And a big **** YOU to LAC. Scum of the league. I'm pretending Paul isn't there. Doc can go **** himself for the slimy stuff he pulled with Deandre.

Instant karma's gonna get you-- you ****. Sailboat inspired, formerly owned by a mfer, kia driving, Billy Crystalline sham of a basketball club that has to cover up the glory of its sister franchise with cheap posters and straight faces after the inevitable post season failure. GL with your jester in Deandre, Choke Paul, and that beady eyed creationist.

i haven't yet given up hope that minny will somehow contend for a playoff spot. imo that's more important than the mavs pick, the mavs aren't going to be much better next year, all their old and broken-knee guys are just going to get older and more broken.

i can't really see the mavs finishing bottom-7 tho, unless they all-out tank and i can't see carlisle ever submitting to that. ok if dirk gets some kind of season-ending injury then it's on, but until then i think they have enough talent to stay out of the true tankers corner, but not close to enough (healthy) talent to get into the WC playoffs. so that's looking good for us.

I love that this is now sticky'd

Mavs lose to Clippers, not too surprising with no DWIll, Matthews, and Parsons. If you take a look at the WC I count 6 teams that I'd say are locks for the playoffs barring injury: LAC, OKC, GSW, SAS, MEM,HOU. Not sold on the Pelicans I know they have injury issues, more than likely they will make the playoffs but I don't consider them a lock. So that leaves DEN, DAL, LAL, SAC, PHX, UTA, POR, MIN fighting for a spot potentially 2 if the Pels or another team has issues. I really don't see why Minnesota couldn't be in that mix, seems like Denver could sell off more parts this year. SAC I think will be ok but won't do anything major, same with PHX. I expect Portland to be bad but they won their first game against a depleted Pels convincingly. I think Utah will def be a contender they played well last year we shall see how it translates over. Dallas I don't see in the fight I think they will end up right around where we need them to. Minny seems to have a shot IMO at being in the playoffs or right there which is exactly what we need.

Here is where I might get a little controversial but I'm pulling for the lakers to win this year....hear me out. So the Lakers keep their pick if it's in the top 3, that could mean they bump Brooklyn out of a top 3 pick for us/even if we got the pick in front of them it doesn't give us as much of an edge over them. I also don't want them to finish in the top 10, does anyone else want Philly to get another top 10 pick? Lakers won't win in the playoffs even if they made it, so I'm all for them having some mild success this year.

Long season but I certainly think Minny really does have a chance, they play against Denver tonight.

Brooklyn in San Antonio tonight, have to imagine Spurs take this one and improve Brooklyn to 0-2 :D

I agree with you I think the Minny pick really could be me important because the Mavs pick isn't going anywhere. Dirk will be another year older next year, Parsons/Matthews should be healthy, and they will have more cap space. We already know it's not a great summer of free agents next year so them adding a marquee guy isn't likely when most teams will have cap space and could potentially offer a better situation. Getting a 13-17 pick this year over two 2nd rounders even if it means we rolled the Mavs pick over to next year is fine with me. However I won't complain about 8 and 13

We'll need to send some of our surplus bodies to the Wolves to help them out. Maybe Evan Turner so they can get LaVine out of their rotation.

BK playing the second half of a back to back against the Grizzlies tomorrow, too. Looking forward to another beat down.
