So considering his already injury prone reputation. This is something Brad will have to address.

This teams ceiling still lies with Tatum. The defense will still be outstanding, and if we get this Tatum? Any team outside of the Bucks could get it.

Yeah that's my interpretation. Losing Rob is tough but we still have the best net rating with him off the floor. Tatum is our ceiling.

Doesn't Al have a better defensive rating than Rob or am I making up memories in my head?

I'm devastated about Rob but we still have a very good team regardless.

As much as I'd like Rob back and I fully believe in his ability to do so if he (/his agent and Boston front office) decides to make a go at it, I'm ok with him calling it a season if that's what he needs to feel strong and confident in his body and role moving forward--but, that belief is bookended by two other thoughts:
1. I think we can still go to the finals without Rob.
2. We'll actually be better next season and we're gonna hit the ground runnin'.

First point I base on Ime's system. Let's not ever scoff at it from here on out. Early in the season I was impatient and having serious doubts while watching L's pile up. I had been so, so certain that we were going to be a top team in the league from the jump. Players looked off balance and to me it seemed like they were playing with their hands in their pockets. Nobody looked like they were about to turn a corner and salvage our season. But boy howdy look at us now. Theis and Grant don't have the vision and ability to move the ball like Rob but they still bring other valuable skills that will keep Ime happy.

Tldr
The Celtic's defense is Ime's legacy.

To the second point it took us half the season to get comfortable and gel. That's just fine. Great teams aren't known for a one off--they're destined for a good playoffs run for several seasons. Way I see it we're just getting started. Next season our schemes will feel natural, automatic. Assuming no big roster changes White should feel at relative ease coming off the success we've had this year. He's proven he can move the ball and d up even though his mentality still looks like "I'm just trying not to mess up their vibe" that he alluded to in an earlier presser. He'll get over it.

JB and JT will have far more productive practices getting reps in their current roles instead of trying to figure out on the fly. We really did an awful lot on the fly this season.

Grant will have more responsibility with a more defined role. He's earning a lot of trust with the team. Who knows; next season Tatum might even throw him a lob.

We can trust Pritchard to be that spark as well as a steady hand even in a close game. I've been impressed with how well his college skill set has translated to the big leagues when given his opportunity. If only we had his ephemeral running mate, Bol Bol. What a boost to our bench they would be!

Tldr
Let's not pressure Rob to return before he feels confident. We've had a great season since the all star break. Next season we'll be significantly better 1 through 12. Esp 1 through 7

Yeah I’m actually more worried about offensively than defensively. Teams are so scared of Rob as a lob threat, and he’s so athletic that he still rises over the defenders. The spacing he beings just can’t be replicated as a rim runner, but if Grant and Al are hitting from deep? That helps bridge the gap, somewhat.

We’ve seen Tatum in the roamer role two years ago, and he was excellent. Its just less about blocking everything, and more about positional defense.

Rob is insane, but he was put into the roamer role because we had the luxury of a great post defender in Horford.

Best thing is to do a like for like replacement which means we should probably start Theis until Rob is fit.

If the Celtics do weather this pretty well thanks to Theis, Brad seriously will be in the Executive of the Year discussion.

What? Russell Westbrook was an ironman. Giannis is an ironman. LeBron is the ironman of ironmen. Donovan Mitchell has been durable.

You can be in amazing shape and have bad injury luck (Grant Hill). You can be in mediocre shape and have great injury luck (Jokic). What you can't be is in bad shape and have good injury luck.

Some guys are just a bit unlucky. Steph Curry dealt with ankle injuries for years, then...didn't. Sometimes injury luck is just that - luck.

In what way? Trade him for some more durable but less talented player? No thanks. I'd rather be careful with him during the regular season and unleash him the playoffs. Talent trumps consistency in the NBA. And if you mean by shoring up depth, that was the exact purpose of the Theis trade. Of course they should look for more in the offseason but even at 60 games/yr, Rob's deal is a STEAL.

Every team is going to put two on Tatum in crunch time in the halfcourt and losing Rob eliminates one of our prime release valves for whoever gets the ball off the pass. I think it's a pretty devastating loss on the offensive side. Marcus will have to be great. Shooters will have to hit their shots. I think our ceiling is lower without Rob if only because the pressure on everyone else is intensified.

Haha no. I didn't mean trade. Clearly though, his injury resume is a bit concerning. I was thinking more along the lines of a good backup.I love Rob even with all his injuries i wouldnt trade him. Relax.
Theis is a 3rd backup big. We need someone who can step into Rob's role and give us similar production. Theis aint it.
