My Takeaways:

-If the Celtics do end up pursuing cap space next year and have to renounce a bunch of guys it will be useful to have Yam and Begarin stashed overseas. Those guys dont look out of place against NBA adjacent players. Another year of seasoning and who knows maybe they can help.

-I liked Begarin's movement passing and defense. Liked Yam's energy.

-Pritchard is too good for summer league.

-Romeo looks more confident with his shooting. Gonna need to see a lot more to know if the shot is improved but confidence is a positive sign.

Madar was as expected. Nice player, needs to add 10-15 pounds of muscle. Begarin was a pleasant surprise. I'm a little shocked that Mazulla left him on the floor in crunch time, but he was right to do so. The kid kept his cool.

Romeo's shot was on, which is important, and they were putting him in a playmaking role. He also grabbed 6 boards, so was an active contributor all around--despite the TOs.

So if the Jays met up with JT's gold, maybe JT is out in Vegas too--and will make an appearance on Tuesday?

I think people forget how these young players are impacted not having veteran presence on the court. Although guys like Romeo and Nesmith have minutes extended, their play and turnovers reflect a lack of influence and presence from the senior team. I take summer league with a grain of salt

Ya I dont know if I'd describe Romeo as "awful." 12/6/4 on nine shots is fine. They were clearly letting him operate a little with the ball in his hands which I like.

Its really just gonna come down to shooting for Romeo. If he can hit league average he'll have a long career because he's a good defender and has some intriguing passing potential.

Here's my overreaction. Nesmith and Langford shouldn't be handed 2 spots in the 2nd unit outright as people have been suggesting. That's why I'm still in favor of adding one more vet and letting Nesmith and Langford fight for one backup wing spot.

Pritchard might never be a playmaker but he's an elite shooter so he's going to provide value.

Madar is fearless and fancy. I love Begarin's size. He looks more like 6'6" than 6'5" for what it's worth.

Wow that was a super fun game!

Pritchard was great, played like a summer league boss. Romeo's shot looked much improved. Out there being a leader and playing well all around.

Madar made a huge impact on both ends and totally changed the game. I'm very excited about him. Begarin was kind of a mess but had the big steal at the end to seal the win. Nesmith made some big shots.

Even Carsen was balling out!

They got off to a bad start and I thought they settled for too many 3s at times, but for the most part everyone was great individually and as a team. Go C's!

Going to be fascinating to see the projected Celtics win total this season from people in this forum. Going to find out how many people are wearing green colored glasses.

Celtics summer league off to a good start. Nice performance by Pritchard, Langford, Madar, Begarin and even Nesmith. Nesmith’s shot wasn’t falling today but he can shoot.

If it’s not Langford and Nesmith then who is it?

Wouldn't Yam on a 2-way accomplish about the same thing? I thought 2-way does not count vs. the cap.

The good:
No one got hurt. Feel like I should start every recap with this. Nice to have Celtics basketball back. Good to see the kids get some burn. Obviously wins and losses don't matter here but it was nice to see them execute at both ends down the stretch to secure the win. Payton finished with 23/5/5 and probably would've had a double-double had he been playing with better teammates. While Payton is probably not a true playmaker- he doesn't really break guys off the dribble to set people up or manipulate the defensive coverage to create openings for his teammates, he's always going to make the steady play and he'll hit shots. You could probably bench him for the rest of Summer League really because you're not gonna learn anything new about him until you see him play with better teammates on the floor. Langford hit the GW 3 which was good to see. I'd like to see him be more aggressive in future games driving at guys. Nobody seemed to want to attack the basket today and Langford was the one guy who I thought had the skill to get to the lane but really didn't. Hope the rest of this League belongs to Madar so we can really see what he can do. What little I saw, I was impressed. Looked under control the whole time. Pestered guys on defense. So far, did not look overmatched there. Made a couple of nice passes and a nice 1 v 1 play for a turnaround jumpshot. Nesmith's shot didn't go down but he finished a few on the break and we know he'll shoot. Hauser made a few shots too.
The bad:
It's the first game of Summer League. It's not a big deal right now.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

I wouldn’t call Begarin a euro vet. He’s a prospect. I think he is 2 years from Boston if he improves.

I don't think he's 2 years away. And yes, he is a vet, which means he's offered more to play over there. They C's would probably like to stash him just so they can string more players along, but I think a 2-way would be the best thing for him right now.

Thanks for the PM, still didn't work, whatever. seen highlights. and YES Begarin would be better off on a 2 way. seems very logically. If I am Boston, I want to keep a young talented player close and help along the way, not ship him overseas.

Jalen Johnson was my top choice at 16 had we kept the pick. Looked very good all-around today.

Nice win.

Player of the game at halftime: Yam. He got the Celtics in the game. His defense is crazy good.

Player of the game: Pritchard. He had a really good half half and finished with 23, 5 and 5.

Romeo looked solid. He changed his hair style at half time for some reason and looked leaner.
Big 3 point shot from the corner late in the 4th to give the Celtics the lead.

Nesmith was ok.

Carsen looked jacked. He had a solid game. I didn't like seeing the small lineups. Carsen needs a chance with another team.

Hauser missed shots he normally makes. Not sure why people are on him about his defense when he had to swift off several times and guard the 5'11 Cooper. Of course he is going to get beat off the dribble.

I might be the only one that didn't like Begarin too much. He looks more like 6'4 than 6'5 and looks a like overweight with little muscle tone. He is still 18 so he can be stashed for 2 or 3 years.

I would still like the Celtics to add Caleb Martin or Niguel Hayes.

Atlanta got a pair of good ones in Johnson and Cooper. Atlanta's drafting the past 3 or 4 years have been on point.

In my short first look at Yam, I was impressed enough to want to see more. He is skinny but not to the point he is "2 years away".

I also have no faith in a Euro stash developing the physical aspect of a player. Madar will develop faster here in one year than any 2 or 3 years overseas.

Mine was Chris Duarte. I didn't think Jalen would be there at 16. He is a great talent but has attitude issues. That's probably why he slid a lot in the draft.

I mean to me two way vs overseas doesn't matter that much. I think there contract issue relating to him still being signed for next year overseas that would make a 2-way less likely.
