Re: Welcome to Virtual Boston, Juhann Begarin!
I haven't been more excited by a Celtics prospect who was not a lottery pick. Juhann is a good player already, and at only 19 years old his potential tantalizes. Rewatching highlights of this year's Summer League, one can see that he has made big strides since last year. As much as I would like to see him stick with the big team, the smart thing would be for him to return to Paris for another year. He needs playing time to continue his development, and he will not see that given our roster. As remi_222 points out, he would be returning to his Paris club with way more confidence, and that will positively affect his game. The future looks bright for both Juhann, and the Celtics.

Yeah, he probably isnt making more than 100k with Paris.
I think another year in Europe would do him good but I would like him to move to Spanish league where he would play on a higher level and especially a different style if basketball... I do not think France league is the best for his skill development...
Although playing in Eurocup is certainly intriguing...

Re: Welcome to Virtual Boston, Juhann Begarin!
So far we have not heard whether or not Juhann will be returning to Paris Basketball in the LNB Pro A league. If he does, however, he will be facing off against old friend Tremont Waters, who has signed with Metropolitans 92 in the same league. It will be interesting to follow Tremont's progress with Metropolitans 92.

Since Wembanyama will play with Waters, it'll be easy to see how he does

Maybe Begarin makes the roster after all if rumors we may lose our starting and backup SGs are accurate.

Wish under whatever circumstances we’d landed Bruce Brown with the MLE instead.
Like 165bows said in the trade thread, our summer moves don’t optimize trading JB for KD, bc Brogdon often = hurt and Gallo = extremely **** KD.

yeah Begarin definitely stays if we land KD.
not sure i understand the connection between Gallo and KD. to me Gallo is a perfect backup for KD and Tatum.
we would be relying more on Brogdon being healthy. add that to the risk factor.

I'm not sure what is expected of our FO here. KD wasn't even known to be available until June 30. Free agency begins July 1 but we know every team has their targets weeks prior and have been talking to agents way ahead of that fake start date. The Brogdon trade was announced July 1 too IINM.
So there was really no time to "hold off" on the Gallo and Brogs acquisition after the KD availability. We didn't know there was a possibility of trading for KD when we planned our offseason and identified our targets. Targets that fill the needs we had during the Finals.
I remember every offseason fans complain that Ainge waits for the big fish (whether it was KD in 2016 or Hayward in 2017 or whoever else we're targetting in a trade) as top FAs sign with other teams and we're left with bottom of the barrel signings. (See what happened with Miami's offseason while they wait for KD and Mitchell who they may not even get.) Now that Brad moved in fast on Brogdon and Gallo, we complain too? There is just no winning with us fans lol.

As far as I can tell from his latest IG story, he's back in France.

Re: Welcome to Virtual Boston, Juhann Begarin!
I think we see him and/or Yam next year. According to tankathon, Celtics have three seconds next year - their own, Miami's and Portland.
Barring other moves or calamities, they won't have any glaring need for the MLE next year, so good time to use part of it to lock down a second round pick or three to team-friendly deals.

They don't have room for him eve next year unless there is some consolidation trade incoming. I'm not expecting to see Begarin or Madar until 2024-25 at this point.

Not complaining about the timing of anything, sorry if I wasn’t clear. My actual gripe is getting Gallo instead of Bruce Brown, my TPMLE binky who I think would’ve been a great fit for us. But that doesn’t mean he has to sign here and he’ll absolutely feast by cutting while Jokic waves the ball around.
But I’ll happily take Gallo over nothing, and will get very EXCITED when he hits a big three or two for the first time.

I feel like Brown is a pretty similar player to White. Borderline all-defense player, best position is the 2, not a great shooter but can sometimes knock them down pretty good, similar in size. Brown i think can "guard up" a little better where White can run the point better, if needed as White is a much better passer and ball mover. Once we added Brogdon, then we had even less of a need for Brown.
I feel like Gallo is a guy they've wanted for awhile. I think Gallo and Grant complement each other pretty well. Grant is only 6'6" and a much better, more switchable defender. Gallo is 6'10" and a better, more proven offensive weapon, better at handling the ball, shooting, creating off the dribble and passing. Grant is much younger too. I think they both bring different things to the table so it's nice to have them both.
Not to get us sidetracked here, since this is the Begarin thread..

I hope the Celtics are handling Begarin very carefully. He has far more value than the Vonlehs and Caboclos of the world. If they don't give Juhann a roster spot, they need to find him a home in Europe where he will truly grow as a player. If possible, end him to a team with a coach like Obradović.

I would want him in Boston learning how to get better from Brown, Brogdon, Smart and White. I understand wanting to maximize his rookie window by waiting but I prefer he come to Boston and Maine now.

So learning from Brown, Brogdon, Smart and White while riding the bench the entire season at age 19, scoring 0 PPG on 0 MPG is better for his development than playing in a top European pro league where he can score double digits PPG in 20+ MPG?

training with the celtics and playing mostly in the g-league is much better than playing in the french league that is trash and worse than g-league. If we were talking about playing in acb then yes but france is a really bad option even if he plays the euro cup -it's not euro league, it's the second european competition-, that will be few games that would be less and worse minutes than playing a minor role and training with the celtics.
