ha -- you're right! Darth was a long-time mod here back in the day, maybe the *only one* for awhile??, and I believe he would drive from his home in .. maybe the Dakotas? .. to see the Cs play in DEN -- I think he was there the night Tony Allen bounced an alley-oop off the floor to himself on a last-minute breakaway, which remains maybe the greatest Celtic dunk I've ever seen (on TV).

Darth was an 'old testament' style mod, but loved the team and the board, though I think he gave up on the board many years ago, maybe calling us all morons on the way out, as was the style at the time, I don't really recall. I think he knew another poster here IRL, like they were brothers or something, and he didn't mind talking about his personal life mixed with hoops.

Edit to add: Darth was an easy term to search for, and it looks like he was here as recently as draft 2021 thread, where he flamed out after calling someone a 'hood rat' and getting (appropriate IMO) pushback on it: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2079134&hilit=darth&start=1440 welp that's not the Darth I remember, but I guess it explains his absence, which may or may not prove permanent (when the Cs win #18 I hope to see a lot of older usernames pop up to celebrate)

Yeah I looked him up and looks like he participates on the general board some. Of course my search also took me to that draft thread, which I don’t remember at all. It definitely explains his absence though lol.

ShakCelts killing the field in +/- overall positive net rating, honestly I don't even think it's close but Zoya has time. Down grade BostonGM and BK because they're not relevant without Jaylen Brown, game must expand. Magic bags no net impact outside the Boston realgm realm, without The Comedian to carry him. An avatar, or lack thereof, had a hand in playa hater's 2 spot decline.

Voting based upon panel subject to change.

You haven't seen my Grant Williams criticisms as of late?

It's just for fun, I don't really dislike anybody even though there's obvious annoyances and disagreements. A small respite from the Jaylen attacks, but no I honestly haven't seen the Grant fodder. I'm not a Grant guy at all.

Has Brown reached his ceiling? I feel like the only step up he has left is getting to the charity stripe more. He is what he is pretty much everywhere else.

Jaylen Brown has no business being top 20 in turnovers. Ideally not top 40. I think he'll bring TO's down the next few seasons so long as he's on a strong team.

I think he's going to learn to make the right pass. I think he'll develop the hockey assist along with it and it might even work. Not sure it will necessarily translate into 4.0 apg, but he should be an automatic 3.5 while his to's drop.

He could also become a 30 ppg scorer if he maxes out his off-ball skills. Maybe not if he's playing with a JT, but there's a lot of 1A's around the league who would like to be JB's 1B.

His handles will get marginally better every season. He works on this every off-season and I think this is a reliable prediction.

I'd like to say he'll develop some eye-apparent veteran wiliness sometime over the season, but I won't. Eventually.

I'd like to say he'll clean up his traffic jams, but I won't. Tbh I feel like we're asking him to change too much here. That Attack Mindset is a double-edged sword. He might clean it up a little, but I think it's always gonna be A Thing.

JB will get better every year, still, he's fairly close to his ceiling.

My dream is to see Jaylen at a 4 assist/2.5 turnover ration next season

Defensively, he’s farther from his ceiling than he’s ever been except for maybe his first two seasons. So if he so chooses, he can work on that end again. Not holding my breath though. Offense/scoring gets you the dough and accolades. He’s approaching FA and I would look after my family too if I were him. The trend of the league is geared towards volume scoring anyway.

Getting to the line more and turning the ball over less are good goals to set on offense. Raising his 3FG% to slightly above league average too if possible.

Ya know I've come to accept, (actually long been there), that Jaylen will never experience considerable growth in the floor game department. He is what he is, kind of a one dimensional scoring machine guy. But what irks me to no end is the fact that a guy with his quickness and strength should be getting to the line a lot more often. This dude should be averaging 8-10 attempts at minimum, it's very aggravating to watch him settle for these 2's at the higher end of difficulty.

Also I'm concerned that Joe won't give him the tough love he needs, when Jaylen feels the need to experiment. Despite the numbers I haven't seen progression from Jaylen this season.

I think he can still significant improve his 3pt and FT shooting. Also his ball handling and distributing can continue to incrementally improve. I think he's still pretty far from his ceiling.

Why would Joe give him tough love? You know Jaylen has a say on who stays as head coach. Same goes with the core group. Joe needs to be on their good side if he wants this gig to continue. That’s why Joe can’t call them out.

Stop selling people false narrative. Jaylen (and Tatum) are here cause they are great persons.
Damon said some days ago that he never met stars so humble like those two.
Smart, Brogdon, Grant, Rob, PP, everybody love JB (and JT).
He is a ball hog, he has too much ego and those bla bla bla has to stop not because people cant have opinions but because are simply false.
Yesterday he didnt force anything and have had alot of great reads and multiple hockey assist after he took advantage.
Mazzulla is the coach and he has all the power in the world.
Brogdon said he never saw a locker room like that.
After the game Mazzulla and smart complimet JB for the game and the approch.

Before rolling Dallas, Joe Mazzulla called out the Celtics role players, telling them they hadn’t been living up to their end of the bargain.
Details about the message, how the team responded and why Marcus Smart shouted out Jaylen Brown’s leadership.

c'mon, can you name another person on this team who has improved more from draft day to today than Jaylen? he works as hard as anyone on his weaknesses. if he had tatum's vision and ballhandling he'd be a superstar not a #2. he's not gifted in those depts, it is what it is.

But even those things have improved night and day, from downright terrible to average. maybe he hasn't improved much this season, but it's along season and these things tend to happen in bursts.

if i had a nickel for every time someone on this board has said "jaylen will never improve his <whatever>", i'd be posting on this board from my own tropical island.

His 3 year trend (3 of the 'grown up' years) is not encouraging in that regard.
His 3 point shooting has been getting worse while his 3 point attempt rate has essentially remained the same.
FT shooting has improved.
Scoring has improved by 2 points per 100 but how much of that is league environment.
FTr saw a big jump from year 1 to 2, then a marginal increase from 2 to 3. However, year 1 of this 3 year trend is Jaylen's outlier year for FTr
Turnover indicators plateau'd, but that seems to be common across the NBA
Overall efficiency essentially the same.

Jaylen is definitely working hard and improving his skills, but his athleticism, as happens to every human, has been declining since he was 20 years old or so. FT shooting tends to improve as players age since that's the one area where skill gains will not be offset by athleticism loss.

One encouraging trend is his health this season and his minutes per game. He's also dunked more than he did all of last season, getting blocked less, and getting more And1.
