I like this version better - Celtics are taking a downgrade in players so let another team pay the cost. If this is the option though value wise prob best to stand pat.

I do like the Suggs deal tho just bring him in and cut out the Wiz.

Yeah I don’t like Suggs at all for us. He might never be a starter level guy tbh but either way he needs somewhere where he can play and have the ball to see what he actually is.

jes gonna be a terrific defensive guard almost certainly but he’s been very bad offensively. If you can’t shoot and can’t really run pick and roll effectively it’s gonna be real hard for you as a guard

He was 21 last year, no reason he won’t continue to improve. I mean, the spot that is there on this team currently filled by Brogdon is 3rd guard/combo guard, who they seem to prefer to fill with someone bigger.

So it’s not the biggest role available but still not too many guys around who can fill the “big guard who plays both ends at both 1 and 2” casting call.

Edit - hard part is he’s still too young to play that role on this team but imo he will get a lot better than he is now. Also fixed my brutal formatting lol.

To give the keys to a franchise to a guy that's above average starter, impact-wise - is hilarious. This contract is for elite players, not borderline all-stars. What a nightmare. This is something Washington Wizards would do.

Not to mention him being a person he is. Unlikable pseudo intellectual holding horrible views that he's never gonna get called on. Kyrie with a better PR.

Next summer, his contract will be seen as one of the worst in the league. I will quote the previous thread and/or this comment either way. To say I was wrong, or to call out all the people who are gaslighting us how he's a Top 15 player and absolutely deserves this.

Wrong. The contract is for guys who made all-NBA team, are still with the team that drafted them and are eligible for their next contract extension after their rookie extension.

That's it. That's the criteria. JB met the criteria so he gets the contract - cry about it.

I would prefer to keep Brogdon unless Boston packages him + picks for an upgrade in talent. One example is Brogdon + filler?? + pick/s for DDR and Caruso etc... Other than that I am not interested in splitting one good (6th man OTY) and good starter when needed for 2 backend rotational pieces.
2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..

I like the energy Stevens brings, but I have to think that between Brissett and Walsh, they'll already more than cover whatever Stevens could give us.

I know the guy has never stuck anywhere he's been, so there's probably a good reason for that, that has nothing to do with his physical abilities, but I am still intrigued, like a couple of others, by Moses Brown. But like I said, there's probably a good reason he doesn't stick. I guess that game when he played like prime Wilt against us left a lasting impression on me.

1) Yes, I admit there's a little redundancy there with Stevens and what we already have in Brissett/Walsh. That's why he's not my #1 free agent target (that would be Danny Green). But Stevens is an option if we go for a wing, someone who can play the 3 and/or the 4 and give us some depth, who might be okay with accepting a more limited role.

Stevens is an option. And we need to have a few different options, since our #1 (or even #2 and #3) options might not want to sign here, or another team might scoop them up and sign them before we can.

2) As for Moses Brown, I wouldn't hate it if we sign him as a 5th big (with the possibility that he leapfrogs over Kornet to be the 4th big). We could probably do worse for the 15th roster spot. He's still young with a little bit of upside. But I won't lose any sleep if we don't sign him. As others have mentioned, there's a reason why he keeps bouncing around from team to team. He's just not that good. A fringe NBA guy. Brad (and most NBA teams at this point) prefer bigs who check at least 1 of these boxes: good shooter, good passing big, really good mobility/athleticism for a big. Moses doesn't really check any of them.

Exactly. Understandably or not Grant Williams was lost with no return. That is already hurting their depth..
They cannot afford to give up Brogdon without it being a good trade. The Clippers probably messed up Brogdons value - don't sell low.

Wrong. Brown does not meet the criteria as highest paid player in NBA history.

He was eligible for the max and he signed it. The fact that it’s the highest in nba history is a bit of stars aligning for that and it’s disingenuous for people to continue to throw this out there. It’s giving people the impression the Celtics were willing to pay him this money and other teams haven’t been willing to pay their stars accordingly. But still your argument says that he doesn’t meet the criteria and he does in fact do so. This isn’t saying he’s the best player in NBA history or even top 5 in the league right now.

The super max has issues that can be debated and they are. If you’d rather we traded him that’s fine and a different discussion but there wasn’t a lot of choice here. You don’t sign him to this deal he leaves in a year and gets a max elsewhere. Wouldn’t be the same max as this for obvious reasons.

Good thing he won’t ever be the actual highest paid player.

He was never going to get moved for Dame so it makes no difference.

Yet we can still match Miami's offer. Chance for a Gasol style spite trade?

I think because the NBA had some balls (finally) and stood up to the players, players association and agents that it is very unlikely Lillard is traded to Miami in my opinion.

Lillard either going to stay in Portland (most likely) or is going to get traded to another team for a better return.

Pat Riley really mishandled this one

I think there's some truth here but also disagree with some points.

JB is certainly being overpaid imo, but I don't think the Celtics had much of a choice. Hearing the names being thrown out the last few months and they just don't really do it for me. Simons and the #3 pick I think I would've done but that's gone now, plus we don't know if that was even on the table.

This looked like it was their best option. Time will tell if the contract is untradable, but barring some major injury concerns or a sudden regression in play, I don't think it will be an issue if it comes down to that.

Not really. Grant was getting DNP's last season and then we added Porzingis. Grant even said it himself, he could see the writing on the wall - he knew at the end of the season (even before we traded for KP) that he was probably not returning to Boston.

Grant will be able to start in Dallas, so good for him. It makes no sense for us to pay Grant over $13 mil a year to be our 4th big and 8th player in the rotation. Hell, Hauser was better than him in basically every advanced stat so you're essentially paying over $13 mil a year for a 9th man who will get DNP's - makes no sense.

What does make sense is Dallas giving him $13 mil a year to be their starting PF.

So it made no sense for Boston to give Grant that contract, and it did make sense for Dallas to give him that contract. And Grant was a free agent. Fortunately, Brad was able to work some magic with a sign and trade to still somehow get 2 draft picks and a $6 mil TPE, rather than losing Grant for nothing - genius :)

Now, the mins Grant was getting last year will be going to Porzingis - a much better player. Some of those mins will go to Hauser - who was better than Grant for most of the season and was better than Grant and basically every advanced stat. And we added Brissett and Walsh who can also help fill the Grant void. Which isn't a very big void anyways, since he was getting DNP's last season and is a guy who is an undersized big, too slow to play the wing, took a step back last season defensively, and lost multiple games for us last season (bricked 2 FTs at the end of the Cleveland game, turned it over in the clutch vs Milwaukee..)
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)
