Hugo is gonna be the next Ginobili! Celtics better not do anything bone head/stupid move and trade him.

Walsh has been awesome & hope he’s here for years but Hugo starting over him is inevitable.

Hugo has looked great with his feel on defense and impact on winning ... so this is not to take anything away from him... but he plays absolutely nothing like Manu who was a super tricksy shooting guard with crazy passes and crafty handle ... To say Hugo is the next Ginobili, you might as well say Hugo is the next Kenny Anderson or Kyrie Irving or any random NBA player who plays no way alike, lol... Hugo plays like Alex Caruso, who is 2x champ and an awesome player and Hugo is bigger and younger with more runway

Ben Pfeifer, did a youtube lauding Hugo's defense last night against the Pacers, that I just watched and is pretty nice

Yeah, I agree that the style is not Ginobili.

But where I'm coming from is impact.
I think Hugo will have the same impact as Ginobili.

Also true that Hugo is more of a defensive player than Manu.

So the styles are different but both are game changers.

oh yea, for sure, the impact has been off the charts! it's crazy Hugo's still 19. Great pick by Brad

I like the comparison although I think Manu strength was that he was an exceptional offensive player. Hugo seems more of a Marcus Smart or Jrue type player. Still he is only 19 and we have just seen how players that age like JB or Walsh can improve in leaps and bounds. His all around poise is impressive. His defensive strengths at such a young age when most young future stars are defensive liabilities is impressive. His FG and 3pt% are impressive.

I would like to see him own the 3 and D role and then add to his game the way Brown did. Right now he looks inadequate as a guy who can create his own shot. He may not have the first step, the handle or the explosiveness to ever be that guy - the way Manu was or the way Brown became. Either way, great asset and looking forward to see him grow as a player.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Jimmy Butler comes to mind as a comp, Hugo impacts the game like Jimmy did and does.

I think young Jimmy was a better ballhandler, but Hugo seems to be ahead in other respects.

I think his ceiling is a shorter but possibly stronger AK47 and I’ll take that on this team every day and twice on sundays.

Right but Jimmy was 19 his freshman year at Marquette, Kawhi at SDSU.

Freshman Jimmy was similarly a little bit foul prone but probably just as active and disruptive on defense (or vaguely close to it). He was always something of a statistical anomaly who seemed to impact the game far more than many stats indicated.

Hugo has a similar build and similar energy and maybe more athleticism?

Anyways, this post led me here

Payne's take: Butler isn't lauded for his athleticism or for having a stellar jump shot. Instead, it's his willingness to do the little things that every team needs, coupled with some stellar intangibles that will most likely keep in him in the league for some time. Whether Butler will still be on the board at No. 55 is the real question, but if he does slide to that point, the C's shouldn't pass on the chance to add a well-rounded talent with a high basketball IQ to their bench for future years.

Different body type.

Marjele was muscular.

Hugo is more the typical Euro body.

Because it's not about player development, it's about winning games.

Hugo's time will come.

Imagine if Hugo has a growth spurt and actually becomes as big as Dan Majerle? That would be cool.

However, the guy he reminds me of the most - it’s uncanny actually - is Mr. Euro Step himself - Sarunas Marciulionis. That guy had giant hands of steel for a guy his size.
