After reading the whole thread, trying to decide who I've lost more respect for: Ray or humblebum.

Also hoping people will take another look at this whole "Ray is a lock for the HOF thing" - because honestly it's never been that obvious without my green glasses on..

Allen believes the capital he's built up playing for UConn and the Celtics would supercede signing with Miami. He's probably misjudged that.

Guess Ray is much stupider than I thought - just traded his legacy to become a true hired gun - winning a title in MIA still makes Ray a footnote and he has no team to call his own - pure mercenary career now.

Ray should be booed off the floor - even though they'll inevitably give him a tribute video. He chose less money to go to his teams greatest rival. His former team was also a legit contender....wow, PR suicide - plus he just stabbed Doc, KG, PP in the back...

On the plus side - cant wait to see Bradley DESTROY him in our matchups.

Too bad Ray - I've watched you your whole career, but this is unforgivable...hope you enjoy yourself judas

1. PEEK-A-BOO IS DEAD!

2. Let's hope Miami regrets this contract - I don't get why they went small instead of big with their only FA $..

3. Miami: put the ball in Ray's hands! Let him make plays! Like he used to!

Unless they play the Lakers there won't be a need for a big. Simple as that. Bosh and Haslem can play "Center" for them and Battier play the 4. There just aren't any bigs in the East to make the Heat pay for their lack of size. Even we don't have the size to match up with them when KG sits. Only player who caused them problems last year was Hibbert and considering the referees' approach of the Heat games he won't be a problem after the middle of the third due to him being in foul trouble.

Ray Allen played:

6.5 years with Bucks

4.5 years with the supersonics

5 years with Boston

And will play with the Miami heat.

After all is said and done Ray Allen will only have played 29% of his career in Boston.

Dude, Ray(as well as KG and PP but they actually talked the talk and walked the walk) talked about C's being his family, brotherhood and this team being something special.. This makes him a fake and phoney!

I'm still SEETHING but here is a few thoughts (also posted this in WOJ thread)

Here are good reasons for Ray to leave
- Ainge jerked Allen around in trade talks (actually trading him at one point)
- Rondo and Allen didn't get along

Here is a mediocre reason to leave
- Ainge just signed Terry, and Bradley will have a bigger role (when Doc brought Allen off the bench for a clearly inferior (but developing) Bradley.. that stung. So minutes will be much less in Boston.
- Heat need a 3 point sniper, and all focus will be on Lebron/Wade/Bosh so he'll be open

Here are bad reasons to leave
- Miami made him feel "wanted"
- Better shot at a championship
- More touches
- Part of heat posse on national TV

Here is why he should stay
- Celtics legacy
- How the F could Miami/Lebron not be your nemesis after all those battles with Cleveland and more recently Miami? HOw could you forget that and join them?

I understand why he left, but joining your arch rival after losing in game 7? Just awful, there are 30 other teams out there. I would have been fine if he left for the Clippers.

Impact on team:
- Not as much as advertised. Allen is 37, coming off surgery. His D has slipped meaningfully. SGs tend to fall off at 35... very few make a significant impact.
- Terry is 2 years, 3 months younger. Terry at 35 = Allen at 37.

I'm happy that Danny didn't budge. 2/12 was a fair contract. It is a business after all.

1. Some you people are insane and take basketball way too seriously. Wishing injuries on people, seriously? And those same people have the nerve to call Lebron a douche
2. Ray was almost traded this season. Why would he want to come back to a team that wanted to trade him?
3. Bass, Green, and Bradley better be good, I've been hearing so much hype for no reason at all especially Green

I respect Ray, he made the choice that he felt was best for him and his family, I respect that. Now I think Rondo and KG will take this personal, especially Rondo if the fued was real. I could actually see Doc putting Rondo on Ray

Bird would have won 4 rings with that team, in this weak ass era of basketball.

After sleeping on it.

Last year I didn't even want Allen back. But when we started resigning everyone this offseason and also understanding the salary cap. Signing him again was very obvious.

Leaving for Miami is the biggest dick move he could make. I will boo him when I buy my Miami tickets at the garden like no other. Lets resign Peaches and Dooling now.

As the NBA trade deadline lurched into its final hour a month ago, league sources say the call Ray Allen long feared had come: Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers was on the line, telling him he had been traded. Allen had been sent to the Memphis Grizzlies for a package including O.J. Mayo and a draft pick, and the Celtics' Big Three had come to a most brusque ending.
For 20 minutes or so, Allen had to process the information. They traded me to Memphis? And yet, as the disappointment dissolved to anger, Rivers returned with a messenger’s nightmare: Never mind. The deal fell apart. Take a deep breath and let’s go back to work again.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--celtics--big-three-nearly-split-at-trade-deadline.html;_ylt=AkWX6DZQyX9_DcNLtSVq3Gu8vLYF

The NBA is a business. Celtics treated Ray like a commodity. Why would Allen make a decision based on loyalty when the Celtics clearly don't have any?

Ray got his revenge for the percieved slite by D.A. Kinda petty if you ask me.
But this effects the Celts in more ways than just leaving a roster spot vacant.

1. The 6 mil that he would've recieved cannot be used now to fill the empty spot. Meaning no Mayo, Courtney Lee, or anyone else that will actually help the Celts. We can expect Dooling to be the best we can get from here on out.

2. While we were waiting for Ray to make his decision we missed out on Jamal Crawford who reportedly wanted to come to Boston, and Nick Young who wouldve been good for the present and future. Maybe we wouldn't have been so hot to trot to sign Bass considering that we have 3 other PF's, and until A.B. comes back IN DEC, only one true SG in Terry.

3. By leaking that he was unhappy with Rondo he has added to the negative light Rondo is shrouded in. This probably won't help the locker room situation as it seems now like there was a Ray Camp and a Rondo Camp. It will also bring down Rondo's stock if DA decides to trade him at some point.

4. People haven't made a big deal about this, and maybe I am reading into it too much, but Jeff Green's agent said that "Jeff wants to be back in Boston. He wants to WAIT AND SEE HOW THE ROSTER FILLS OUT BEFORE MAKING A COMMITMENT." "HE IS HOPING RAY COMES BACK BECAUSE HE IS VERY CLOSE TO RAY." Does this mean that he will rethink signing with us because his binky just left? I hope not but don't be surprised if he goes elsewhere now too.

5. This makes the Heat more attractive to other FAs. Camby will be next, rounding out the roster to make it the most complete team they have had since "The Decision".

Essentially this takes the Celts out of contention, barring some miraculous trade like the Lakers just pulled off.
Damn Ray! That's some COLD sh**!

The areas that it hurts the Celtics are:

1. End of game (quarter) offensive plays. Simple math, Ray historically shoots 3's at a better percentage than Pietrus and Terry. How many direct wins and losses are decided by this factor? I would wager a couple, maybe. Pierce is, and was going to be, option #1 regardless. But Ray made a strong #2. Now more burden falls on Rondo to potentially deliver in these situations. What might have been a Rondo, Terry, Ray, PP, and KG unit to run on a late offensive possession, now reverts to having Bass or Pietrus on the floor and Terry taking Ray's spot.

2. Ray's hot streaks. I have always sided with the group of posters who bemoan Ray's fairly one-dimensional game. But the impact of Ray is all of those little hot streaks when he reels off 2 and 3 long distance hits in a row. He'll be missed for the scoring surges he would provide at critical times. Though I do contend that the upgrade in defense, physical toughness, and better (Terry) or less frequent (Pietrus) ball handling (or ball stalling) will mitigate some of the need for these individual scoring surges.

I'm disappointed in their inability to use Ray's salary slot as an asset, MUCH more than losing him on the court. This doesn't become a big blow to me, unless it is compounded by an inability to re-sign Pietrus.

There is still a chance the Celtics could find an upgrade through trade. They still have JJJ/Future picks that can be offered up for a productive guard on a small money deal. What would that type of package get you? Depending on the pick perhaps a disgruntled or soon to be RFA on a rookie scale deal who their team isn't planning to keep...

They still have the BAE and connections with Pietrus/Dooling.

Losing Ray is a blow to our shooting/scoring depth. No question about that.

But having Terry/Green/Bass gives the Celtics adequate support in shooting/scoring departments. I'd like to see Ainge go out and get a guy like CJ Miles or Gerald Green. Young athletic guys with some length who can fill it up, at least on paper.

Adding a guy like Kristic is not 100% necessary but it does add another veteran scorer and presence to the lineup.

Pietrus/Miles/Kristic to finish out the FA/trade season? That wouldn't be so bad.
