They are not losing Chandler or Ellis.

They almost certainly won't suck but the West is so damn competitive that if they take even a small step back and lose Chandler or Ellis, or Dirk gets banged up maybe they miss the playoffs and we get a #10-#14 pick.

We still may end up trading the pick, but I'd imagine it has MORE value with the protection for this year, not less...

You never know in this league:

Thunder
Rockets
Grizzlies(if Gasol stays)
Clippers
Trailblazers
Golden State
San Antonio

Those are all teams that will most likely make the playoffs next season. A couple injuries/lose a couple key players and teams like the Pelicans/Kings could sneak into a playoff spot. It's not likely but at least Ainge is giving us a chance to possibly get a lottery pick.

WOW, that's even worse! This is a royal screw-up by Ainge. Hard to see how he keeps his job after this. We won't even be getting that pick.. Jesus christ,. :banghead:

Yes but we'll get it the next year where in all likelihood it'll be a better pick. That's a smart move.

Nelson will help. It's just not going anywhere. We are a half game out of 8 seed. I bet we are the 7 seed this year because Nelson will play well and wright will help interior.

Forget the playoffs. We will trade Green and bass to rebuild.

Rondo was pretty weak this year. For whatever reason. He was also a #21 pick for those of you whining about getting the Mav's pick (now 22, but might be better next year.)

Wright has 3 inches of reach on Sully, Kelly and Zeller. Have you noticed we need a someone that can defend the rim.

Smart (the future) did outplay him in one game and by a lot. We have probably gotten better, gotten a future first and gotten a large trade exception.

And Rondo has moved to a much better situation for Rondo. The Mavericks have probably improved, too.

It is a win-win. Until recently I had hoped for so much more from Rondo. But he had moved on .... The ball doesn't lie. His points per shot were the worst in the league.

I will say this about DA's drafting ability. When he is focused on the draft, he is one of the best at picking future talent. He will be focused. These picks are going to bear fruit in time.

Apparently. Not asking you to memorize my takes here, but I have been explaining in full detail every aspect of why this was likely going to happen for months now. It comes to pass nearly exactly like what I said, for the exact reasons I put forth, and you are like, "Well, that's not *really* being right."

Tell yourself whatever you want. I nailed this to the wall, and the only part that sort of surprises me is that Ainge didn't at least hold on for a possible shot at adding Gasol with a sign-and-trade to LA as a backup plan.

Whatever... my hope now is to continue the liquidation process and go for a top 5 pick this summer.

Yeah, he will.

I know everyone is still shocked by today's events, but has anyone thought how much more ridiculous our front court situation has become? Lol, I'm not mad, but something's gotta give here.

Sullinger/Wright/Bass
Zeller/Olynyk

I mean we thought Bass was a goner before...it's even crazier now. Wright will definitely get minutes. He's likely our most athletic defender in the front court now, and we know Stevens has been starving for that. I kinda wish we threw Bass into this deal. I feel bad for the guy now. Something's just gotta give there..

Protection is good news. Little better return than it looked initially.

Bass will almost surely get traded. Like, I am about 95 percent sure he does.

Yeah me too, but I feel like I've been saying that for two years. At this point, I'm almost 110% sure, but it still hasn't happened, heh. I just feel bad for the dude because the writing has been on the wall for a looooong time now, but he still comes in and seems like such a good guy.

So if the C's are deadset on KO being a center (until KO vs Sully is settled), they have a pretty good potential synergy going with the Sully/Zeller and Wright/KO lineups. Should mix well.

Either way, I'd have no problem with them getting cap maxed on Chandler, Ellis and Rondo to go with Parsons and Dirk.

They'd then only have 7 guys under contract with no room to do anything else.

Yeah I thought there was a chance he would be gone last year, too, but not like now. You outlined the frontcourt situation in your previous post. There is A LOT of meat there, and with Sullinger clearly being superior to Bass and Wright filling a role that Bass simply can't, the writing is definitely on the wall for a trade.

He'll probably get dealt to a team like Memphis or Houston, and it will be good for him. He deserves to be on a contender. Class act.

It's a very intelligent move, for all we know the Mavs get killed in the first round, Rondo/Chandler walk and the team is left with Ellis/Parsons/Dirk and don't make the playoffs. Worst comes to worst we get a late 1st like we expected in the '15 draft

So true....

Reading this thread and the other one, makes me think that all the Rondo fans are more disgusted with what the trade returned than the trade itself....

I've been a realist for awhile now as concerns Rondo's wanting to be a free agent....The fact that he was unwilling to sign an extension kind of sealed his fate in my eyes....

Danny did OK today, considering the alternative was nothing if Rondo just walked....and the other thing is this...Rondo was traded away....he didn't get a chance to leave for free agency....

Anyway, it will be interesting to see if trader Danny continues to play that card the next time someone decides to play the free agent game....

For all you Rondo fans, how do you guys like free agency now?

No need to answer that...I can pretty much hear the F-U s.......just remember though...I've never liked it and never will...and hate when players try to leverage their teams....its ruining sports.....

So..... Were most likely going to have 4 1st round picks in '16. Hope that turns out to be a good draft class

Yeah I edited this in to:

So if the C's are deadset on KO being a center (until KO vs Sully is settled), they have a pretty good potential synergy going with the Sully/Zeller and Wright/KO lineups. Should mix well. KO is one of the better passers inside the paint for big men, and Wright thrives in finding holes and cleaning up so KO should hopefully be able to find him a bit. Wright should also be able to cover up for KO's mistakes with help defense. We've already seen Sully/Zeller work pretty decently defensively so this is good.

I like it a lot for this year. Worth Rondo? No, not really, but it'll be nice to see some defense in the front court 48 MPG instead of 25-30 depending on how often Zeller got to play.

They were going to lose Rondo anyway. Getting anything in return helps.

This is universally being viewed as a horrible trade for Boston

Agreed. That's why I'm not so sure Ainge will simply flip Wright elsewhere at the deadline. I think he has a place here for the foreseeable future.
