It's actually pretty rational.
On a side not to me worst contract so far: Murray, no way in **** Hell he's getting 30_ mils a year. Dude averaged over 15 pts on .430 from the field .367 from 3. Dude ain't nothing special. That's superstar(ish) money.
he's pretty damn good and he's ascending. They're paying him for his future performances not past. 18-4-5 and 37% from three at 21 y/o is pretty good. They obviously see upside to come.
He averaged 15 this year, lad. He's very limited defensively cause of his frame and if his shot is off, he's basically useless. He's a scoring combo guard. I'd take Brown over him 20 out of 20 times and Murray has gotten way more opportunities to shine than Brown has.
Nah Murray averaged 18 this year in the regular season and 21 in the playoffs. He is a good shooter that is probably only going to get better. Catch and shoot, off the dribble, he has both of them. He has the ability to be a star scorer although he didn't show star efficiency this year (he did last year). He is an obvious 20+ scorer in the future. He doesn't do it on the other end though.
With all that said, it does seem to be a little premature to hand that out right now. Its not like they are at risk of losing him anytime soon. He is a foundational piece for them, but he isn't the a surefire all star/all nba guy just yet. You have another year til he hits free agency. It makes sense to get a deal done now if there is a benefit to both sides. The full max though? I don't see the benefit to the Nuggets. What's the rush? He isn't turning down that same deal next summer.
