Until there is a chance, there is hope for 10th pick :)

Wins counter:

Play: 28 mem
-----------------
14. 25 por
13. 23 nop
12. 23 sas
11. 22 sac
10. 22 pho

With 27 games left Mem still with the hardest remaining schedule. The easiest games left :2xatl, ny, sac, 2xnop.

So torn tonight on the Pellies/Blazers game. Pellies hot with Zion, Dame out for 3-4 games. Collins/Nurkic may/may not make it back and be useful. I have no idea which team has a better shot of overtaking MEM.

I'm taking Pelicans. Nurkic isn't going to be rushed back and may not even be that effective early on. Both teams can easily leapfrog Memphis regardless.

I tend to lean towards Pellies being the best hope. POR has to survive these Dame-less games and steal at least a couple wins. Hopefully, the Spurs get their SAS in gear as well and all 3 leapfrog the Grizz.

If I really dare to dream PHO or SAC could...... nevermind.

Nice night. Grizz lose, SAS wins. And of course one of POR / NOP. Everyone within 3-4 losses now. Get better quick Dame!

The Grizzlies have the #1 most difficult remaining schedule in the league.

New Orleans has the easiest in the league. The Blazers and Spurs have the 5th and 6th easiest.

The real risk is that the Grizzlies sneak into the lottery and then get the 4 seed through the lottery balls dropping their way. Then they add another good young player and convey the 20th pick in the 2021 draft to the Celtics instead.

But that wouldn't be the worst, since it would alleviate the issue where the Celtics have too many picks this year (and only their own picks next year), plus we could have another Memphis pick watch thread for next year.

I'm actively rooting for that to happen and roll the dice on the 2021 pick. Progress of these young teams is rarely linear. Maybe they do something stupid like SAC and fire their coach, or have injuries, or bring in more guys that look great on paper but don't fit, who knows? The chance at an unprotected pick is worth it. Even if it is 20, spreading it to a year we don't have an extra pick already, and adding an extra year in the future of rookie salary is worth it. The risk we end up a few slots lower is fine by me.

Yeah, at this point, I just don't see that going from #17 this year to #20-22 next year is all that much of a loss. That's pretty much max downside. Max upside of rolling the pick over to next year is still pretty significant, even if the odds aren't in our favor.

There's really no reason not to root for them to lose every game this year. There's still a tiny chance, in a perfect world, that they can drop from #17 to #12. So then you either get a better pick, or get to hope for one last lucky break next year.

Edit: I realize I just basically repeated exactly what you wrote with different words. Well, suffice to say, "I agree."

Pelicans were down 10, suddenly up 5 to Warriors?

As the Spurs are terrible, unless they have Timmy that they tanked for, and with Portland going bad it is all left to New Orleans.

Pelicans get in, defeat Lakers in first round, Memphis get lottery help and get their pick and take a Ball, then sign two Morris Brothers for "veteran leadership" next season, Celtics get top pick in 2021 draft.

Memphis with a big losing streak, you want L.A. teams to win, Vlade Divac has to help once more. If Trae can average 58 points against Memphis, that helps too.

No Jae Crowder, no Memphis.

We did draft Paul Pierce at #10. It can still happen.

Regarding that MIL pick, Jimmy Butler was picked 30th in his draft.

But then again, so was Petteri Koponen. Petteri who?? Yeah, exactly.

Raptors could pass Milwaukee at the rate they're winning. Gimme that sweet 29th pick. Career 17.2 3P% shooter Dennis Johnson was drafted 29th overall.
