Also, FYI, Jayson Tatum is averaging 38 ppg, 5 rpg, 1.5 apg, 2 bpg, 62%, 63% 3PT ever since I bought his City jersey on Saturday. So......you all need to go out and buy his jersey today, so by this time next week, he will be averaging 60 ppg on 75% FG, 76% from 3PT.
Would love for his assist numbers to go up

Related question. If Tatum played at his Feb pace in Dec/Jan would Danny have made a trade for help at the deadline?

I think he was looking at this year as a growth/development year, so was hesitant to trade assets for true rental help. But if he knew he had a top 10 stud playing out of his mind, maybe he is more willing.

that's a great question. tatum at this level absolutely changes the ceiling of this team- knwoing danny's history i feel like he wouldn't have made a deal he thought he was overpaying for, just to make a deal.

i'd say no but again it's hard to know the deals that were available. i am torn on that answer. what ab u

Reports were that some of the deals like for the lazer were scenarios where Danny would have had to blow them away to get it done (ie, 2 firsts for a rental). I doubt he does those still. He's never going to massively overpay. But, would we have done say Alec Burks even? I think maybe he would have been more willing.

While I think we are seeing what Tatum will be - and I think he will eventually go beyond what we are seeing now... I'm wondering if this is a hot streak, or a genuine leap? From this point forward, is base Tatum now a 26+ppg guy on 48%+ shooting?

I see three possible scenarios here

Our 22ppg Tatum who is at times very inefficient is currently playing in the midst of a very hot streak before falling back down to where he was.

JT has made the leap to what will likely be a 24+ppg kind of player on 46%+ shooting from the field and is playing on a hot streak like we have seen the last month.

Or the most popular scenario is that JT has made the leap to a 27+ppg player with the same D and rebounding on almost 50% shooting.

I think option #2 is the most likely scenario. I think Tatum has made a leap, but what we are seeing now is a very hot streak of what he will be in the playoffs, or next year.

I think year 5 will be the big year to find out if he can become that top 5 player that he is showing flashes of now.

As much as I love this, he's playing at a near MVP level. I can't imagine this is who he is right now, and I'm sure he will come back down to earth just a bit. Next year he could very well be a top 10 player. I think we are another season or so from seeing what we've seen the last month or so on a nightly basis.

Yep, teams will adjust, shooting will vary, etc. But given we weren't positive his ceiling was even as high as the last few weeks, it's awesome to see. It feels like he can be in that set of top 6-15 who can dominate at times, and be fairly consistent, but will still fluctuate and not cement themselves as true top 5. Which, again, is awesome. In a couple more years, who knows?

Reminder that current-generation Jayson Tatum—for this season—is ranked in these all-in-one stats:

PIPM: 8th
RPM: 5th
RAPM: 4th
RAPTOR: 10th

His ceiling is 1. He is already currently the 5th-10th best player in the NBA.

Yeah these stats aren't without their faults. Wesley Matthews is like fifth in one of these. largely they pass the sniff test, though. Lebron, Giannis, Doncic all near the top in all.

The Raptors are the 2 seed for a reason; they've been hit by injuries more than almost any team; Powell, Davis, Boucher are all having incredible seasons.

I'd have him around 9-10 right now, but he is trending upwards, and fast.

I'm constantly soiling myself just thinking about what he'd look like when he's 24 or 25. Got to find a way to convince him to not change teams once his upcoming contract is up.

Think Zoya is just messing around lol, saying that Tatum is the 10th best Toronto Raptor, not the stat.

I can see him & Doncic being the 2 best players in the league one day.
The difference between the two is Tatum’s defence is on the level of Doncic’ playmaking whole Tatum’s average playmaking is at the level of Doncic’ average defence.
The question then becomes can Tatum’s playmaking exceed Doncic defence ?
