Very short free agency. You know what that means...

If Boston were to lose GH for nothing this year, I would consider that a major blow since Boston is already so thin at bench and veterans etc..
Keeping him or trading him (for someone decent) at least gives us another good player.
If Gordon opts out and leaves for another team, the most Celtics can spend on a free agent (not counting our own free agents) is the full non-taxpayer mid-level exception which is just above $9M. That $9M can be divided between multiple players. But that's the max we can spend.
We won't have cap space whether Gordon leaves or stays.
EDIT 1: Apparently, there's a specific scenario where the cap goes up to $115M and we could have as much as $12M of cap space if Hayward opts out but that would involve a lot of moving parts and cap gymnastics.
EDIT 2: Without cap space, we'll have the Bi-Annual Exception too aside from the full MLE. Something like $3.6M if cap stays at $109M.
great so in other words, we are slightly F'ed or really F'ed then

I'd be happy with Nov 7 at least.. but more importantly need to move up FA. Teams need more time to make moves.. that and be able to trade before the draft as well.

I'm big on Giles. Not only is he Tatum's buddy, but I think he has some major potential.

I think it would be a mistake to start the season in December. Open camps December 1 maybe, but let players ease themselves back into game shape, let personnel have off for Christmas and New Years, and allow time to for all parties to react to any changes in circumstance.
Wait just a little bit longer, chances are you have less injuries, less tension, and maybe fans in the stands. IMO

Also FYI, forgot to mention, Giles' agent is Jeff Schwartz...aka Kemba and Pierce's agent. Him and Ainge are super tight.

Been Giles #1 stan since the 2017 draft. All the stars are aligned for him to become a Celtic that it’s almost too obvious

Re: Official Celtics 2020-21 Offseason Thread
Anyone have a list of MLE targets? Convincing Hayward to not opt in and then using the MLE could be a decent option. Kind of unlikely he doesn't take the money, but maybe if someone else wants to sign him and he'd rather have control over where he goes. Staying under the tax would be great as eventually we will be over it for too long and trigger that repeater tax. So avoiding it now could mean keeping a really good team together years down the road for an extra season. That tax is no joke.

I like his inside outside potential and the fact that he is best buddies with Tatum, but doesn't he have bad knees?? I mean something isn't right if two bad teams never really used him much.

He has Leon Powe knees, or something to the effect.

I think the idea of Giles has never aligned with the reality of Giles. He had people talking Webber and Bosh as a teen but whether it's the two major knee injuries or mental, he's nowhere close to what the "scouts" claimed he'd be once healthy. He has slow feet especially laterally that hinder his defense. He still doesn't seem comfortable with the ball in his hands and it's resulted in him being a 6'11" C&S 4 from mid-range. The Kings aren't a great organization so maybe some or most of that can be chalked up to them. But the dozens of times I've watched him play, he looks somewhat tentative and without a defined role. I see no reason why, with all his talent and physical gifts, he can't be Theis or better. Maybe he just needs a change of pace or a coach that will give him more than 14 mpg. The red flag is the Kings aren't exactly a great team and if he couldn't scratch the starting lineup for them with what they've been throwing out there at the 4 and 5, then expecting much at this point is asking for too much. It'd be a great story if he could put it all together for us though and I think he'd be worth acquiring. I'd rather have him than Edwards or Poirier though I think we might be able to find someone better in the draft too.

People have been clamoring for Giles for like 3 years now. He's straight up not the player he was in high school. He has no knees.

Nobody’s saying he’s the same guy he was in high school. There’s still a lot to work with though. He’s an advanced passer with high IQ, we can run the offense through the high post with him like we did with Al Horford. He’s still only 22 which fits our timeline and oh yeah, he’s Tatums best friend. Sacto is a dumpster fire, give the kid a fresh start here in a real organization and let’s see what he’s really got

For league min I'm down, but he has been injured and pretty terrible so far in his career and I'm sure someone will give him MLE+ because of supposed upside.

I believe those were the numbers from the TV show Lost that they had to keep entering into that computer in that bunker.
