However, the guy he reminds me of the most - it’s uncanny actually - is Mr. Euro Step himself - Sarunas Marciulionis. That guy had giant hands of steel for a guy his size.

Interesting. He was a good player. I think Hugo has a much higher ceiling, and is a better rebounder, defender and has a better feel for the team game.
Jordan Walsh goes top 10 in a 2023 redraft.

Dog house, only 12 minutes.

Because it's not about player development, it's about winning games.

Hugo's time will come.

Yeah. Walsh, Hugo, Minot...IDGAF about their stats, PT or creating trade value.

Win games. Hauser gets benched too, as does Simons. Too often we want to see our guys get the big stats, get awards. Ya know what? Win games.

I think he has a higher ceiling too. I think he could put up numbers as good or better than Sarunas - 12/3/3 - next year at age 20 which is remarkable. Anytime a 19 yo looks good …. who really knows what comes next. Getting a 19 yo with late first round pick who is already contributing to winning already is a home run IMHO.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

There's some loose similarities but Sarunas was much more polished/skilled offensively. Hugo a better defender/rebounder so they are different types of players. But Hugo should be studying film of guys like Sarunas and Manu to try and improve his offensive game.

His ceiling is high for sure..only 19 years old of course.

Btw, think he's already about same size as Majerle was..maybe not quite as strong as Majerle was in his prime but that's comparing the strength of a 19 yr old to a 27/28 year old so not very fair..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Sarunas Marciulionis was one of one. He was so fun with that 90's Warriors Run TMC era. I lived in the Bay Area at that time and the fans saw what he was capable of even if he didn't get a lot of attention in the broader market. It was like watching a bowling ball on fire when he drove.

Interesting comparison though. Hugo has a bit of that frame in him, although still fledgling, and he does have a knack for the herky jerky euro moves.

I'd take a recipe of 1/3 Sarunas, 1/3 Manu, 1/3 Majerle for sure. Hugo has a lot on his plate to work on, but I think the body, 3pt shot, and NBA court awareness are coming along just fine. Can't wait to see him with JT next year after a summer of conditioning and learning.

I actually think Baylor Scheierman reminds me more of Sarunas Marcuilionis. Lefty, quirky, a little out of control . . .

But Baylor has basically zero driving ability, whereas Sarunas was one of the best drivers in the entire league..
