I like Rudy. He has the flexibility to fill in off the bench at mutiple spots and can give the C's more offense along with some playmaking.. He isn't TA defensively but I think his offense will make up for some of that..

Also Joel P. would be a nice pickup. Not a great Player but has some good size and rebounds well. He would have matched up so much better against the Gasol's and Bynum's then the undersized (height wise) Perkins. Its too bad Miami exists..

This trade would be awesome as it'd fill two major needs - a shooter behind Ray and a big man who can rebound. Joel THE ERASER Przybilla is awesome. He's a stiff offensively, but he'd be the best rebounder on the team as of the second he walked through the door. The offense goes to crap when Ray sits down, so Rudy fills an obvious need as well and he's just 25 and on a nice contract. Giving up a pick sucks, but you've got to give something to get something. I'm hoping Portland can find that 3rd team that'll give them enough for them to pull the trigger. You couldn't ask for a better ending to the off-season moves than this trade.

Our two biggest needs right now:

1) A wingman taller than 6'5" who can spread the floor (good defense would be ideal, but you can't have it all).
2) Someone who makes sure that Semih Erden doesn't see the court and helps our rebounding issues. We were 29th in total rebounds last year and 25th in rebounding differential, as well as dead last in offensive rebounds by a significant margin.

Rudy spreads the floor and is a good shooter. Ray would be able to help him out I'm sure, which would be great. He will be a fan-favorite immediately, but I can see him putting up a fuss about his minutes.

Pryzbilla is a big injury risk, but he would be a great fit if he can stay healthy (a big "if"). Last season he averaged 16.7 rebounds per 48 which would have been good enough for 5th in the league if he qualified. The year before that he averaged 17.7 per 48. He is a defensive presence as well, blocking 2.96 blocks per 48 last season, 13th in the league (just ahead of Perk).

Overall I would really like a trade to pull these two in. They are risky, but this is not a time to be playing it overly safe.

I guess the second surgery was due to a freak accident in which Przybilla slipped while entering his shower at home.

His timetable for a return is unknown. If healthy, he might have started for Boston with Jermaine O'Neal as the backup four and five. Regardless, you'll have possibly both Perkins and Przybilla on the shelf to begin next season. You're left with O'Neal, Davis and Erden. Yeah, I would be concern.

Even if Joel never plays again I will still do the deal in a heartbeat. I think Rudy is probably slightly overrated as a player, but I have always pegged him as an ideal fit to play alongside Rondo since he is a shooter who moves off the ball as well as runs the fastbreak. His weaknesses are he can't get by anyone on the dribble and leaves alot to be desired on the defensive end. I would be alittle wary that he would still be unhappy as even if we cut guys minutes it doesn't seem like he would get more time here. I would think that he would rather go to Chicago or NY where the 2 guard spot is still an open question, of course it really isn't his choice but that of the organization.

He might indeed be worth it for Boston. Especially, if Ray tutors him and he listens. But $7.4M is still a lot of money for one season to just waste on Przybilla.

I like that lineup too. Erden would be #14, and Laffeyette or a camp success story would be #15, not that it really matters. What matters is that we have some depth in size and in shooting.

Neither Rudy or Quis will make me forget TA's defensive abilities, but at least between the two of them we have backups who can handle the ball. Rudy for offense, and Marquis would need to be groomed in the unenviable position of "LeQueen stopper".

One more time people... It sucks... but we can not count on Perk for anything next year... same with Pryz... so the above team would SUCK. A PF/Center rotation of KG, JO and Baby is just not enough. We need one more Quality and Healthy big... and Perk/Pryz don't qualify.

The only positive spin to acquiring Przybilla is Boston could be stacked at center come the playoffs. Their rotation would be deep. Stilll, I hope that isn't Ainge's thinking here. I mean winning during the regular season counts for something: Seeding.

You're asking a lot of Boston to duplicate their efforts from the playoffs this season for next season as a middle seed again.

I just dont see a better option greenmachine. It's obviously a gamble, but Boston isn't offering that much in return. I think you have to roll the dice here and hope it works out if it's on the table.

Rudy trade talks likely on back burner until Sunday. GM Cho tells agent Andy Miller he will meet w/coach McMillan in Vegas on Sun to discuss

Well, we now know that Portland definitely wants a first round pick. Apparently, New York's out...

As other's have said, Pryz would help in a couple of ways:

If he's healthy at any point the C's pick up a good interior defender and if he isn't healthy he'll make a nice expiring contract for someone looking to shed payroll.

Plus we get Rudy who could be a piece for the post Big-3 era?

Let's do it!

Quick interesting tidbit, Rudy and Ray have eerily similar advanced stats for their first two years in the league. Also, I'd be all over the sheed/baby/filler for Pryz/Rudy/Cunningham deal. Cunningham will stick in this league.
You gotta make it sexy! Hips and nips, otherwise I'm not eating.

I don't think it would be out of the realm of possibility that Ainge could be asking for Greg Oden in addition to Rudy Fernandez. Probably, unlikely that Portland would include Oden as oppose to Joel Przybilla. Because that would be a hard sell by the front office to their fans. However, it wouldn't surprise me if Ainge has entertain the idea at some point.

Rasheed Wallace, Oliver Lafayette and Tony Gaffney and a first round pick and cash in exchange for Greg Oden and Rudy Fernandez. From this, Portland could sign Kwame Brown or Shaquille O'Neal for depth.

I've this feeling that it's inevitable that Oden will be traded, eventually. In my opinion, you either trade Oden too early, or too late. I just think it seems unlikely that he plays out his NBA career in Portland. That is, if his proneness to injuries become a constant problem. And a constant reminder of former first round pick Sam Bowie.

Sorry, but there's no way the Blazers are giving up on Oden that easily, especially for the package we can offer.

Getting Rudy and Pryz could be a steal IMO

Not sure if this was already posted, but:

Here are the latest with Boston and New York.

Cho has backed off to say he is not in any hurry to trade Rudy. Basically Cho is waiting to see if Boston or NY Knicks will change their offers.

Boston
Boston isn't sure they are willing to give up two 1st round picks as they are countering with a 1st & 2nd round picks. Basically Boston is getting two good role players in Rudy Fernandez and Joel Przybilla.

The problem for Boston is they haven't found any better free agents or better players from other teams willing to take back Rasheed Wallace contract for an exception. With Kendrick Perkins out 6-7 months with a torn ACL, the Celtics need a center and Joel would fix that problem.

Here is the "rumored" offer by Portland:

$8.65M - Rudy Fernandez, Joel Przybilla and Portland 2011 2nd to Boston
$7.08M - Rasheed Wallace, Tony Gaffney, 2011 & 2013 1st round picks (both picks lottery protected over several years) to Portland

New York
Right now the offer is less thrilling as NY offers a 1st round pick in 2014 and Toney Douglas. Portland wants Anthony Randolph and New York is thinking about it, but hasn't approved any deals yet.

The first surgery was done in December 2009, and the second surgery was done in March 2010. Basically, he might have made a full recovery before the start of next season until he tore it again. My guess is you should expect him to be out as long as Perkins. Perkins could return in either February or March sometime. While Przybilla could return in either January or February. No one really knows. Most likely, it could depend on whether or not either player has a setback in their rehabilitation from now until then.

Przybilla has already had one setback.

You also have to take into account a player experiencing rustiness upon their return. So that's another two to three weeks of reconditioning in addition to the six or seven months they've already been out.

Portland Trail Blazers center Joel Przybilla underwent successful surgery Monday to repair his reruptured right patella tendon, the team said. A timetable has not been set for his return.

The 7-foot-1, 245-pound Przybilla reinjured the tendon Saturday morning after slipping in the shower at his home in Milwaukee, Wis., where he was undergoing rehabilitation.

Przybilla originally tore the tendon Dec. 22 during a game against Dallas. The 10-year NBA veteran underwent season-ending surgery Dec. 24, and was 10 weeks into a comeback that was supposed to have him ready for training camp next season. Now, Przybilla could miss the start of the 2010-11 campaign.

Reportedly, Chicago could offer Portland Taj Gibson. Their salaries are close... I actually like this trade for Portland. He would immediately be Aldridge's backup. Conversely, the only way Boston might top that is to offer Davis but the salaries don't match up and it would hurt Boston's depth behind Garnett.

If the Bulls are able to acquire Fernandez does he get the starting nod over Brewer or Deng? Or does he come in off the bench? I feel the Bulls should have went after Rudy before they traded for Watson (although I do like Watson).

He's a bench player, mostly unproven, but the kind of player, I believe, who can elevate your second unit. In this NBA, not many teams have deep benches. The Bulls are on the verge of having a terrific one if they can add a veteran potential impact player like Fernandez, and when I say impact, I mean impacting on a second team level. The Bulls can make up with their depth the superior starting talent of teams like Miami and Boston. Which is also why if they cannot get someone like Fernandez, I might hold the money and see who comes available midseason.

The only way that I see Rudy Fernandez agreeing,
and for a First Round Pick the Celtics Management will insist on agreement,
to come to Boston over Chicago or New York is if

Doc Rivers PROMISES Rudy that Rudy gets every available minute behind
Ray and Paul.

Meaning if Rudy is not 100% ahead of Marquis in the rotation,
Rudy and his agent say not interested.

And if they say not interested, then there is no deal.

Return to Boston Celtics
