If he was still playing like earlier in the season then I'm for it but not now. Not after what he has shown and done.

ahhhh yes you can. and that's actually when you want to trade him. He's NOT James Worthy. so if you're expecting him to be then you're sadley mistaken

Besides, I think Pierce and Green are duplicates. One has to be off the team next year, and Pierce holds the better value. I think Pierce gets moved around draft time, or is cut 6/30. I just don't see a team wanting to do a S&T for Pierce for $15.6 million.

Celtics have 1 PG, 2 SFs and no centers. It's a dumb roster. We have to get more balanced and more orthodox. Pierce and Green are redundant players.

to max the value of Pierce/Green you want to TRADE Green and bring in a better player (if possible) and then let Pierce finish out his contract. PP's value to this organization is playing out his contract and then expiring. do not sleep on 15 mill coming off the books. plus, who's to say that he wouldn't resign on the cheap to be a 6th man after next season? if he doesn't retire. Pierce is still a very good player. why are we talking about his funeral? because he had to CARRY THE FREAKIN TEAM the entire 2nd half of the season after Rondo went down? Celtics had no business playing in the playoffs after the injuries and adversity they went through. If anything, AINGE needs to improve the roster and figure out what to do with Lee, Bass, Terry etc. those are the guys responsible for this **** season. Not PP

^^^ Celtics had NO BIG MEN! no PG! 2 of the most important positions in basketball. they had nothing. with Rondo back all Ainge needs to do is address those areas. we need a backup PG, a big man or 2 to help KG and Ainge needs to fix the mistakes he made last offseason

KG & Pierce will be 2 years older and Ray Allen is long gone. No way they're beating Miami or Chicago next year. I'd much rather see what Sully, Smith, Green, Bradley and Rondo can do, and also get a top 10 draft pick by dealing either KG or Pierce in a 3 way to LAC and sending Bledsoe & #16 to a team in need of a pg like New Orleans or Sac...

KG and Pierce should play for true contenders next year.

bla bla bla. that team isn't bad enough for the lottery and not good enough to do anything. you want to be the Bobcats from 4 years ago? Maybe we can deal Paul Pierce for Gerald Wallace... would that make you happy? urgh. unreal. Keep KG/PP/Rondo and make changes to the rest of the roster (keeping the future in mind) OR blow it up entirely by moving PP/KG and maybe even Rondo (I'd wait unless the perfect deal was on the table).

Weren't you pretty bullish about the team after Rondo got hurt??

That's what I was gonna say. Leaning on KG and Paul yet again in another playoffs a year older is a recipe for disaster. Paul can't even defend anymore. I'd go with the Big Al option if KG retires after we amnesty Paul. I think that team is a 4 or 5 seed at least in the East.

you lean on Jeff Green then and see how far that gets you. have fun

LOL THAT'S your response?? OK. I'm good with that. I'll take the guy that can play over 30 minutes a game now and not lose Pablo Prigioni on defense. I'll lean on Green...and Rondo...and Sully...and AB, and any free agent shooter we might add. Yeah...I take my chances we don't lose 4-2 against the Knicks in the opening round.

LOL That's right...blame the ROLE players. Because if anybody knows anything, it's ROLE players that win you games in the playoffs! Nothing beats paying a guy 15M to play under 30 minutes a game and then blame the backups. We can amnesty Paul RIGHT NOW and the 15M comes off the books RIGHT NOW. Why wait?We are talking about Pauls "funeral" because he's 36 and coming off a bad postseason. And this after getting babied by Doc minutes-wise all season.

your alternative is buying him out with only 5k going against the cap but even that gets u nowhere in terms of cap flexibility. The other option is amnesty clause...still not alot of flexibility unless u factor in KG hanging them up (which he s not). Or u trade him for crap. Ahhh, ill bring him back. Im not ready nor will i ever be ready for the jeff green era. If ur moving on from PP and KG then u better bring in someone better then Green

read my post. People made it a thread about hating on Rondo. I never do that. I state the truth about Rondo. I even leave options of how to move forward with or without rondo. Im not an anti rondo guy. Im just An anti Rondo being ur beat player guy

I don't think it was ever in much doubt that Doc would be back. He made some comment last year about coming back where he said something like, "I'm a celtic" sure he could make money doing TV but I think he would get bored very quick and he knows it. I think we just get scared on here because if he didn't come back it would be a big hit.

Also, I don't think Doc is going to coach a rebuilding team. So this just serves as more evidence that Danny will run it back or make moves to keep the team competitive and not tank or drastically rebuild.

I think it's pretty **** up to trade away Green. It'd probably decimate his confidence and he'll shrivel up in a ball like Perkins.

Oh wait...

I like acquiring Smith at the right price. If PP does go, it could make that a little easier.

Smith coming could bring about some interesting small ball lineups with Sully at the 5 to stretch the floor a little. Keeping Green would be awesome. I'd probably be cool with throwing in Bradley since we have Lee.

We need a deadeye like Korver, though. Jacking 3s is the new beast, as many have pointed out.

Can anyone tell me why Rivers would retire as a headcoach at such a young age?

He can easily continue coaching for at least 10 years or does he have different desires?

I remember it was because of his family. He wanted to spend more time with them but they kept on pushing him to continue coaching. I was surprised when he signed the 5 year extension.

Green was our best player in the last few months of the year. 12 months removed from a major heart surgery, dude played serious minutes as a starter and had great stats, you better start respecting the guy for his effor Leprichan...(21 pts on 53 % from the field and 40%+ from 3).....
Good assessment:

Honestly why would anyone care that trading Jeff Green would 'crush his confidence' and it would be 'messed up' ??

He's a professional for gods sakes. He has a fat contract and will play basketball wherever he goes. If the right deal came along and made the Celtics a BETTER team, I would definitely move him and anybody else on the team for that matter.

This roster has some giant problems. None of the young guys are franchise guys, the role players sucked and are overpaid on multiyear deals, the stars are too old and no longer elite. I usually hate the trade Rondo stuff, but with the team firmly entrenched in mediocrity, nobody should be untouchable, not Rondo, Green, Sully, AB etc...

Whoa...hold the phone. I don't think I've ever said anything about buying out Paul. I've lobbied for completely amnestying Paul. Did KG confirm he's coming back. If he did, then I just missed it. Last I heard he hadn't made a decision yet and he could still retire. As for Green, I am ready for the "Jeff Green era". Whatever that means anyway. I honestly still don't know what we have in that Gguy. He's a year removed from major heart surgery and he's been playing behind our Captain. It would be nice to see what his game fully looks like playing 35+ min as a starter at his proper position with Rondo feeding him the ball as a primary option. A lot of posters have claimed to already know what this guy is or isn't but I think this last season taught us that we really don't know everything yet. So I'm excited to see Jeff Green next year as a focal point and see how good he really is. If he's not a cornerstone, so be it. Then he becomes a trade asset. If he is, great. But I don't know and I think anyone who thinks they know is probably fooling themselves to support their own conclusions. One thing I DO know, is that the Paul Pierce era is over. I don't think there is really much debate anymore about that.

I was listening to the radio today and they were talking about this tweet by Steve Bulpett.

It likely means nothing but it may not be a 100% sure bet yet.

Barbosa (bring him along slowly)

How this happens:

-Green/Bass/Melo/Crawford (Hawks decline team option on Crawford) for Josh Smith in S/T
-draft one of Dieng/Withey/Plumlee
-Trade Courtney Lee to Minny for Luke Ridnour
-If Celts are eligable for MLE SIGN Korver!! Celts need another shooter. Korver knocks down 45%!! He'd give us the Ray Allen effect of having a decoy/a quick release and consistent 3 ball. spaces the floor. Plan B would be Martell Webster, Dorell Wright or Chase Budinger.

Garnett wants help in the frontcourt? Okay, Josh Smith is the help. He'll give you 8-9.5 rpg. 2 bpg. plays above the RIM and can guard 4's/3's.
Sully being back and healthy is a big boost as well. I think if anything Bass is in the way of Sully's development. Can't have both guys on the team IMO. Sully has more upside. He can rebound, score on the block. his J is decent from 12-15 feet. I see Sully taking big strides in his development this season.
Drafting Dieng gives you a young, athletic, active big who'll be a bit raw offensively and may get in rookie foul trouble, but I guarantee you he'll be better then Wilcox/Jason Collins.

THAT my friends is a team you go to war with in the East Conf. Watching these playoffs I can't help but wonder what a healthy Celts team like the 1 above is capable of. Miami is awesome. No doubt about it. But Wade is beat up, Bosh is nothing special... Celtics would have a shot in the East at getting back to the finals. and if they don't? make hte deals at the trade deadline when Pierce has value to contenders with his expiring contract. KG waives his no trade if Pierce is gone. Terry would only have 1 year left on his deal making him moveable.

To me it's a bullet proof plan. Get it done Danny

excellent.
