Re: Kawhi update thread 2.0
Just hope Kawhi doesn't go to Philly, not sure I'd be willing to part with a cost controlled Brown without an assurance of an extension from Leonard and his camp

You may be right about my time on the GB.![]()
That said, as far as an actual discussion, I think what I said on what we'd have to give up is fair, and you simply chose not to respond to it, so I'll lay it out this way:
1) Who is sincerely beating a deal revolved around Brown/Rozier/Morris/filler/combination of picks? Again, MAYBE Saric/Covington/#10 can compete, or at least the Celtics force the Sixers to include Fultz (who again, do Spurs really want him)?
2) To reply to what you mentioned in another post, why would the Spurs make negotiations more painful for the Celtics than say, the Lakers? By trading to the Celtics, the Spurs get Kawhi out of conference, and if I'm to believe what I read on the GB's topic on Kawhi, supposedly the Spurs just don't love the Lakers in general. Woj said on SVG's SportsCenter hour that Lonzo to the Spurs probably isn't a great fit, so perhaps the Spurs make the Lakers give up someone else they wouldn't want to? If the Spurs were in the East maybe you'd possibly have a point, but if the Celtics can give the best deal and it wouldn't have to include Tatum, why would the Spurs say no if it means they don't have to deal with the Lakers?
1. I don’t think Ainge is going to include both Brown and the kings pick. JMO but he doesn’t overpay in trades and given the situation and Kawhi being a flight risk, this isn’t an all in situation. The sixers are more desperate than the Celtics are.
2. They are going to make negotiations difficult on everyone because they are a quality front office. If the Celtics include Tatum it’s a wrap. They won’t, and I don’t think they shove all the rest of the chips in the table either. Someone is going to outbid them and my money is on Philly

Re: Kawhi update thread 2.0
This stuff with Kawhi will take a while. The LAL dream team is very far fetched, cause Deng is on the team and it would take basically clearing the deck for the Lakers to sign these guys even if they take pay cuts.
Good assessment:

Re: Kawhi update thread 2.0
The Irving trade stuff just boggles my mind the last few weeks. It's as if the media and half of Celtics fans are trying to run him out of town for reasons I can't explain. If healthy he is one of the elite scorers and proven finals performers in the entire league. I absolutely am dead set on losing Irving for many reasons and not just being a fan of his, it makes no logical sense to me unless he himself wanted to leave.
Simply put, if you make a deal for Kawhi; you need a healthy motivated Leonard AND Irving to have a shot to beat Golden State in a 7 game series. Both would be motivated in contract years. And I said "a shot". You need stars to beat the Warriors. Multiple. You need to bank on Tatum too becoming this great star fans believe he is on his way to becoming. He would need a second year jump. You need Gordon to become the old Gordon sometime this season or at least 85% of the old Gordon.
You would need Kawhi, Kyrie, Tatum, Hayward healthy, a motivated Horford and then a few others to step up to try and steal a series vs. Golden State with preferably home court. If you could add in Kawhi and keep all those guys then Danny is a genius.
GS is no joke and is one of the top teams of all time and might even be better next season, hell nothing anyone might come up with in Boston or LA or Philly may even be able to win a title until that team declines since GS is still a young enough team if they stay healthy and together.
Sometimes I wonder if risking more roster shuffling is even worth it, roster continuity for Brad will eventually become important. Team chemistry IS important. If anything with Kawhi happens you also have to hope he gets along with the current group and doesn't pull anything here too.

Re: Kawhi update thread 2.0
If Kawhi is available and healthy we have to kick the tires. Jaylen Brown has made great progress but the gulf between he and Kawhi is still great and there is no guarantee he gets there. I can’t see trading Kyrie for Kawhi although I would if that is what it took. Kawhi joining Lebron in Philly does to us what Draymond Green and then Durant joining GSW did to the Clippers etc. As much as it is a risk to trade for Kawhi.... it may end up a bigger risk not to trade for him. If he goes to LA.....great.

I just feel that bringing in Kawhi and losing Kyrie doesn’t make us that much stronger or closer to Golden State tbh. Now having both of them along with Hayward,Horford and Tatum.. god damn.

I think you would have to trade Hayward to make this happen though. The only reason I say that is because of the cap situation. You simply wouldnt be able to afford a team with Kyrie/Kawhi/Hayward/Horford after next season. Now if you can get clear of Hayward's contract then I think you can make it work, with Horford's deal coming off the books the same time Brown is up for extension. But there would just be no way to resign Kyrie and Kawhi next summer if Hayward's contract is still on the books.

mzepol wrote:ddb wrote:Here is my concern with the Cetics potentially trading for Kawhi. First, there is a durability concern. Kyrie, Hayward and Kawhi are 3 stars, but 3 stars coming off significant injuries.
The other concern is this...Kawhi is in a great situation playing for a great coach and a first class organization. I know because I worked for the organization.
If he wants out from San Antonio then there is definitely a BIG interest that he has in playing in LA. So even if Boston swoops in and trades for him, he can turn right around and sign in LA anyway. This isn't a situation where Kawhi is coming from a lousy organization like Minny or Milwaukee and then he is blown away by Boston and the organization. The Spurs have a great fan base...they have a HOF coach. They win. They do things right. Going to Boston only presents 1 difference for Kawhi at this juncture. He would have a better shot at winning another ring or two in Boston then he currently does in SA...but then again, he already won a ring...which brings me back to LA. Seems like there is a big interest in LA or NY for Kawhi.
Keep an eye on LA, Philly, Boston and the surprise team I would think is NY
This is my concern as well.
I think the great coach, winning culture/situation and the great organization will not be a selling point for Boston to make Kawhi stay with the Celtics, as he is just leaving a similar situation in San Antonio. I think he really wants to go to LA/NY and will not sign an extension if he's traded elsewhere.
Hard pass for me, but I trust Ainge knows what he's doing if he does trade for Kawhi.
If Kawhi really just wanted to go to LA/NY all along and was willing to do all this just for that, then so be it the Celtics never had a chance.
The thing is, I'm not so sure it's that simple. I'm sure LA/NY is great (he nor Kyrie are going to NY tho, stop it
From the GB Board, apparently Jalen Rose said 4 months ago Kawhi had real issues with the Spurs themselves, issues he perhaps won't have in Boston:
Sooo again, is it all just that LA is Kawhi's home and/or just wants the big city that much? Doesn't seem so simple to me.

As I've said before, Kawhi and Hayward can't be traded for straight up, the Spurs would actually have to add more than just Kawhi. I don't love deal on the Celtics' end for various reasons such as optics and what not, but I don't see how the Spurs love that either.

One thing is certain, players like Leonard and Irving are most probably not going to stay put unless they go to their preferred destination. Both almost certainly are one-year rentals for Boston and SA. So any trade should be one for the other... no draft picks added unless our own next year one or some other high first pick we have. The Sac pick should be off the boards in a one year rental.

Interesting, I’d just think he’d want a guy on more of a national level to feed info to.

Listen, Brown, sac pick, Memphis pick and then salary to match. That really helps out San Antonio. Brown has 20 ppg talent and pop would put him in a starring role.
Everything else has high salary downside.
And Kyrie, Hayward, Leonard, Tatum, Horford is an absolute stunning 5 to matchup with warriors.
