Hope you kept that list in a safe place. lol:
You won't find me ever trashing Hayward or his play. I thought he was pretty good last year, especially in the 2nd half. I love his game. I love his decision making.
With that said, a trade isn't off the table IMO. He was playing really well even before this masterpiece against Cleveland. If he keeps playing at a good level, he is going to opt out. Do you want to give 30 year old Hayward a new 4 year deal near the max? The free agent list is relatively weak and he is going to get paid.
I'm not saying yes, I'm not saying no. I'm not letting him walk for nothing though. We made that mistake with too many guys last year. Rozier should have been flipped last summer coming off that playoff run. Morris probably should have been flipped before the deadline, but that would probably would have pissed off Kyrie. We don't have to tiptoe right now. We have to continually make the right decisions so that decisions made 3 years ago are paying off now and decisions we make now are paying off in 3 years, etc.
If you are comfortable paying Hayward, fine. Discuss an extension now that will meet in the middle. If you are not comfortable, flip him.
