VS his last year in Utah

In 73 games played (73 starts) 34.5min - 21.9pts - 5.4reb - 3.5ast - 1stl - 47.1%fg - 39.8%3pt

So basically in his first year back after injury statswise he lost about 10ppg, a rebound pg, and his 3pt% dropped 6%.

Just for the sake of boredom, let’s get a prediction poll going for this season.
Literally right in between

Hope you kept that list in a safe place. lol:

You won't find me ever trashing Hayward or his play. I thought he was pretty good last year, especially in the 2nd half. I love his game. I love his decision making.

With that said, a trade isn't off the table IMO. He was playing really well even before this masterpiece against Cleveland. If he keeps playing at a good level, he is going to opt out. Do you want to give 30 year old Hayward a new 4 year deal near the max? The free agent list is relatively weak and he is going to get paid.

I'm not saying yes, I'm not saying no. I'm not letting him walk for nothing though. We made that mistake with too many guys last year. Rozier should have been flipped last summer coming off that playoff run. Morris probably should have been flipped before the deadline, but that would probably would have pissed off Kyrie. We don't have to tiptoe right now. We have to continually make the right decisions so that decisions made 3 years ago are paying off now and decisions we make now are paying off in 3 years, etc.

If you are comfortable paying Hayward, fine. Discuss an extension now that will meet in the middle. If you are not comfortable, flip him.

I know it’s only a small sample size but comparing his last year in Utah to this year he’s averaging more rebounds, assists & has a higher field goal percentage. Only a point & a half behind his average in points.

Completely a hunch, but I don’t see him leaving for extra dollars and a contract restructure isn’t out of the realm of possibility this summer. I think he has unfinished business that got interrupted that he wants to see through.

He was already doing the other stuff last season compared to his last year in Utah. Assists, steals, blocks, rebounds, etc. were higher. Just not enough minutes.

PER-36 numbers:

But this season, he's also been shooting better BUT not that far off from his shooting post-ASB last season.

Hayward, this season so far (6 games): true shooting % of 65.6%
Hayward, last season post-ASB (19 games): true shooting % of 63.8%

Even as I'm high on Hayward more than most, he can't be our best player if we are to truly contend. Post-injury Paul George is still a better player than peak pre-injury Hayward. Even PG might not be a #1 on a title team. Peak Hayward doesn't even come close to peak Pierce, who needed KG and Ray to win one.

So in terms of team direction and decision on Hayward going forward, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I'm just gonna enjoy the heck out of Gordon's and the team's resurgence.
