Re: We have enough of a Tatum sample now
My biggest issue with Tatum is that when he drives to the hoop, he tries to get the ball up and around defenders. He tries being slick with it.. bending and twisting to avoid contact. Like a 6’10 Kyrie.. without the touch. Which is why he doesn’t get a ton of calls and struggles in the paint. Sometimes I just wish he would go up strong. Embrace the contact. Realize most players aren’t going to block or alter your shot much.

He takes so many forced bad shots in his pursuit of that mythical 20ppg average, so many head-down drives to the basket through 3 defenders and endless complaining to the refs after every single missed shot. Too prideful for his own good. Too cool to show the heart and hustle that a franchise player must demonstrate. That was fine as a rookie, but in his third year now I've seen enough to say that Tatum is a stat guy, not a winning guy. He's the anti Marcus Smart.
As a young player with 1.5 years on a deal, averaging 20ppg I imagine he would fetch a very nice haul. He's redundant on this team with Brown and Hayward, and likely even more redundant moving forward with Langford playing more.
I wouldn't trade him as part of a shortsighted attempt to win it all this year, but rather because he's demonstrated that he is not the winning type of player you need and is always going to handicap the offense with his forced, selfish shot selection. Moving on now allows us to sacrifice very little from this years team, while also reloading for the future.
Dude what?

Re: We have enough of a Tatum sample now
After last nights game I agree that the only reasonable thing to do at this point is to try to trade Tatum and Romeo for Fultz, have the league remove any reference to or footage of Tatum from the Celtics annals, and to submit ourselves to voluntary memory wipes so that we can just pretend this never happened. The sample has been acquired; it’s time.
I nominate the OP to go first.

Re: We have enough of a Tatum sample now
Tatum is still a pup. Imagine giving up on Jaylen in his 3rd year? He's looking like a future all star at this point.
Just a matter of time for Jayson. I don't think he's a Carmelo type. I think he wants to win, but he still has some immature habits in his game that will fade with time imo.

Re: We have enough of a Tatum sample now
While I dont agree with most of the OP points, it is so damn frustrating to see him miss so many damn layups. It also seems like he is back to whining about the no calls.
Still young and time to improve for sure. Not giving up on him

Re: We have enough of a Tatum sample now
All I see is a 21 y.o. future star who needs to mature a little both physically and mentally but is tracking well to do just that. I'm going to take a cue from Shak and Particle and be easy on the OP, we need more of that around here, but I do strongly disagree with the OP. Tatum is a few poor choices a game and a dose of consistency away from being a top 15 player, not the kind of guy you give up on at age 21. He is untouchable in a trade in my book.

Trade him for Drummond? Sorry, what?

Re: We have enough of a Tatum sample now
Trading Tatum is maybe the single dumbest thing Ainge can do. What is needed is development. He has been the Golden boy for awhile, I think he will respond well to being challenged. The talent isn't questionable the only problem is he tries to do too much at times. That isn't the hardest thing to fix.
I apologize for the things I have said in the past.

Re: We have enough of a Tatum sample now
Have to agree with that, well, part of that.
Found a part to agree with.
Best defender on the team:
Not just steals and blocks, but his length to cause players problems.
That would seem to be a compliment.
Smart was, for most of his career, the worst shooter the NBA had ever seen. Stopped taking some of the bad shots the last year and a bit.
One more, Tatum is playing out of position, to help the team.
With a normal roster, he would be an All-Star shooting guard.
With small-school Indiana small-ball employed, he is forced to be a power forward too much.
His rebound and assist numbers have increased every season.
He is plus in +/- for 80% of the games.
Have no idea if that is big, but Marcus is 60% of the games. Kemba is 70% of his games.
When Tatum is playing, and even if it is a game when refs are mean and Tatum needs to shoot as he is surrounded by 4 bench guys who shoot 14% from 3, the team does well.

Re: We have enough of a Tatum sample now
Tatum has increased his ppg and rpg and apg every year to get to 20th ppg. Clearly best out draft so far. Dude misses lay ups and your ready to move on from him? Hahahahahaha lol that's funny but not really. Others have posted saying I respect your opinion, I don't it's wrong so I'll just say lol

Tatums has some disappointing games for sure and last night was one of them .but I’m not ready to trade him . I still think he can be great and that at some point he’s going to get on a hit streak

Re: We have enough of a Tatum sample now
I was harsh on Tatum last year for his lack of intensity, focus and at times hustle but he has improved in those areas tremendously this year while adding high level D. If he improves this much again, continues to work on his strength and Jaylen also continues to improve at this rate we’ll be unstoppable next season. So I agree he still needs work in those areas (including shot selection) but I disagree that he’s not already on his way to getting there.
Hey Man, nice shot!

Yeah idk. Too early still.
I remember last year when claiming I would trade Tatum for Luka straight up though, people were saying no to that. Tatum may be great. Be he's never going to be as good as Luka is right now. Anything can happen.
