Aaron should not play in SL. He has nothing to gain by playing in SL. If he plays well, then people say well of course he would play well, it's only SL and he is a 1st round pick from 3 seasons ago. If he plays just ok, it's not a good look. It's a no win situation for him. If Brad or Ime are asking him to play, then that's different. It's better he take some time off and be around assistant coaches and work on his game that way. Much like Grant last off season.
dude. it's not about what's a good look or a bad look. who cares what people say?
Bottom line, it's year 3 for him. it's a make or break year. he's gotta show this season that he's an NBA player or we're gonna ship him out of town at the deadline just like we did with romeo (if we even keep nesmith here that long).
He needs to play in summer league to:
a) prove to Udoka and Brad that he's an NBA player and
b) get reps that will help his development
That's it. Bottom line. screw everything else..
SL won't do that for him. A good showing for Aaron in SL is not going to change Ime or Brad's opinion on him. Training camp, pre season and early in the season will show more to the coaching staff.
Ime proved he has very little confidence in the bench by playing only 7 guys in the finals. White and Grant were the only 2 guys playing off the bench in the Finals. I won't count Pritchard's spare minutes sprinkled here and there. I doubt Boston is counting on Nesmith, Sam Hauser or anyone else outside of the top 7 to contribute this off season. It would be nice if it was one of Nesmith, Pritchard or Hauser.
Brad and Boston realize this and must add 2 proven vets to the bench to have a 9 man rotation so they can keep our main guys fresh in the playoffs.
Celtics need to add to the top 7 players.
Give me one the the FA bigs:
1. Jalen Smith
2. Kevon Looney
3. Jusuf Nurkic
4. Mitchell Robinson
5. Isaiah Hartenstein
6. JaVale McGee
And one of the following SG or SF:
1. Bruce Brown
2. Cody Martin
3. Caleb Martin
4. T.J. Warren
5. Kyle Anderson
6. Joe Ingles
7. Malik Monk
If the Celtics want to do better than getting 2 of those players above, then they have to make trades.
I want Nesmith to do well, but for him to join the rotation, he has to show big improvements in year 3. There currently isn't much playing time for any players not names (Tatum, Brown, Smart, Al, Rob, White or Grant. The Celtics know they need to improve their bench. Go get some solid bench guys that can be trusted to take the team to the next level.
