Not sure. They have Kissoonlal down there, but he's a little more Derrick White hair than JD.

But I don't follow the team really so might be missing someone.

If I am him, I am thinking damn, I get a front row seat to watch 4 rounds of the playoffs, get paid, and hang with all the Celtics if nothing else.

I'm still in the brad screwed up at all star break camp.
Could have went all in but didn't even after the owner said go all in. Hopefully we get something to replace can't will and Kornet and muscala next year. I would also imagine pp is gone to but we have JD and the euro stashes so we are solid there. Need to get more rim protectors for aging horford and often injured timelord. That is the main problem we have and it's like that every year so I doubt it will get fixed. We went to the favorites to now on ESPN 5th favorite. It don't matter because it's the sun's turn that could of been us .

Here's another way to look at this pickup.

This kid is only 21. That's the age a lot of guys get drafted. There's gonna be a few guys drafted in June who are older than Champagnie.

6'6" wing but plays bigger than that (due to athleticism, strength and rebounding ability). Shooting 39% from 3 over his last 10 games on high volume. Good defender. Plays hard. If he was draft eligible this year, he'd probably be going somewhere in the 17-27 range.

I don't know how many guys in g league history have averaged 19+ PPG at age 21 (or under) but I'm pretty sure it's a very small list. For all I know, he might be the youngest player to ever 19+ PPG in the g league.

Essentially, we just scooped up a 1st round pick.

For comparison, Champagnie is kind of similar to Marjon Beauchamp in terms of size, athleticism, strengths/weaknesses. Beauchamp played last season in the g league for the Ignite. Champagnie has actually put up better numbers in the g league this season (at age 21) than Beauchamp did last season (at age 21). And Beauchamp was the 24th pick in last year's draft, by the Bucks.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

He is going to win you a game against the Raptors coming up. Probably the 2nd one when you guys sit like 9 guys.

Was disappointed we cut him. Excellent rebounder for his size, shot well in our g-league too. Plays markedly better when hair is out than otherwise. Can’t seem to find a single site that keeps stats to back it up but I swear it’s true.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

that is who I meant. And I haven't seen anything about him since he signed (late last summer?) but there is a beautiful head of hair on his team photo
Born in Jacksonville FL, but played a year or two in Denmark
Averaging 5/3 in the G league, so this may be the last mention of him even on this board for the forseeable future

Until a few days ago I had no idea there was even one Champagnie in the world. So my reaction when I saw Champagnie in a Spurs boxscore with 24 points last night wasn't pleasant. I thought Pop had pulled a fast one LOL.

Next season there will be 5 sets of twins in the NBA

-Justin and Julian Champagnie
-Brook and Robin Lopez
-Marcus and Markieff Morris (Markieff could be out of the league next season, though. I suppose there's a chance Robin could be too)
-Amen and Ausar Thompson
-Keegan and Kris Murray

Why Stevens didn't go after Samanic is beyond me, unless there were off-court issues in Maine.

There's several reasons I can think of.

-If we were gonna go with a big for the last roster spot, it would have likely been Kabengele, since he beat out Samanic in training camp for that 2-way spot. Kabengele earned the 2-way, whereas Samanic simply got a g league roster spot, which means Kabengele got to practice with the team, sit on the bench and get into a few games. It also meant Kabengele made twice as much money as Samanic this season.

-Clearly, the team wanted to add a wing, not another big. We already have plenty of bigs (rob, al, kornet, griffin, muscala, grant, Kabengele). No need for another one. Hard to find enough minutes for the ones we have. Ever since we traded a wing (Jackson) for a big (Muscala), we were short on depth at the wing spot. You look at all the articles that were published where celtics writers speculated about who we might try to sign to fill that last roster spot - they all said that the team was looking at a wing. Names like Will Barton and Danny Green were floated around. There was also rumors that it might be a younger guy out of the g league. Someone with some upside, who we could develop long term and would cost the team less $ than a veteran. Cough, Champagnie, cough

-When he was in San Antonio, Samanic had a reputation for being someone with attitude concerns, effort concerns. He didn't hustle back on defense one play vs Orlando and was waived the next day. Well, from the footage I saw of several Maine Celtics games, it was more of the same. Not much hustle, not much effort on the defensive end, questionable body language (hanging his head, throwing his arms, etc.). You watch Champagnie play (in college, in the g league, in limited action with the raptors) and it's the opposite - the guy plays VERY hard on both ends of the floor

This is the kind of player I was expecting Brad to sign. I think Champagnie, Kabengele and JD will have a reg spot on the roster next season, replacing Kornet (Kabengele), Pritchard (JD), and filling the 15th slot. That will free up our 2-ways for any draft picks we get.

Smart, Brown (resigned after Brown gets third team all Pro) Tatum, Horford, Rob
White, Brogdon, Hauser, Gallo, Kabengele (Rob lite)
JD, Champagnie, Grant, Muscala, (Blake or Kornet)

Biggest question mark will be if Grant is resigned or not. Pretty sure that Pritchard will be traded. I think the team will have to decide between Blake and Kornet. I would go Blake all day.

Admittedly I only watched 2 Maine games but I didn't love his game. He wasn't active on defense and he didn't hustle.
He knows how to score but not really good from 3. My guess is Champagnie is a better defender and will hustle.
