Re: Grant Williams Appreciation Thread
It's sad to see him go, I'll miss his toughness and flexibility for the team. I won't miss his whinging to the refs.
I wish him luck at Dallas and think he's a good fit there providing defense and spacing on low usage.

I hated the pick and couldn't stand the player. He was just a minutes eater. Lots of whining and flopping which made us way harder to root for. I'm glad he's gone and he's been thoroughly replaced and we won't miss him one bit.

Re: Grant Williams Appreciation Thread
Grant had 2 pretty good seasons (rookie year and 2022), one terrible season (2021) and one kinda bad season (2023)
He was god awful at times this year, but I do acknowledge that he played pretty well in the Miami and Philly series. He was great to start the year too.
This team feels like one going from an Udoka roster to a Joe one--we're getting away from switching defense to more traditional drop

HIs contract is super reasonable. If the C's hadn't traded for Porzingis and didn't also have to give Jaylen freaking Brown the keys to the kingdom, they probably would've loved to bring Grant back for that kind of money.

I liked Grant Williams unfortunatly the new CBA made it impossible to have him. Now Brad go and get the light version of Grant back Semi Ojeleye. He's there for the minimum.
The 2024 NBA Champions Boston Celtics depth chart:
Guards: Holiday, White, Pritchard
Wings: Tatum, Brown, Hauser
Bigs: Porzingis, Horford, Kornet

Good luck Grant
Happy he got paid
Happy he is not on the team as I think his loud mouth is holding him back. His talk is way over his play

Grant just never turned into the player he was supposed to, I don't know whose fault that was, bad coaching, failure for the right type of training, lack of effort, or just lack of athleticism. He was just never as good as he should have been, this past season he really let his ego get him in trouble alot. He seems like a really smart person, maybe he will be a good coach someday, but he is a 9th man to me, and I am glad we got some 2nds for him.

Zero physicality, zero toughness. Team has zero dawgs now (Walsh and Brissett are pups). If you were calling them soft before…

I'm inclined to think that, despite a marginally better offer from the Mavs, he probably quietly regrets not taking the Celtics' initial offer when it was still on the table.
Good luck out there, man.

Re: Grant Williams Appreciation Thread
Got to admit, the Celtics at least got a decent return for Grant, according to Woj:
2024 Better 2nd Round Pick of Chicago or New Orleans
2025 Toronto 2nd Round Pick
2028 Miami 2nd Round Pick
Considering that the Celtics already traded away 5 of their next six 2nd Round Picks, getting 3 back is nice.
San Antonio owes the Celtics a 2nd Rounder in 2024;
but it's Top 54 Protected and may not convey unless it's one of the last 6 picks.

I agree that he seemed to psych himself out a bit this year when he tried to prove too much before injuring himself. And he'd be better if he'd stop the mouthiness. But in total I think he's turned out well so far for a late 1st-rounder, as I think his market as a RFA shows. He's a 3&D who can defend down low against bigger guys and that's valuable.

I think we'll find out how valuable his defense is when it's Dwight Powell who's coming over to help and not Robert the Lord of Time Williams.
