I like him.

I personally can't stand Scal as an announcer and get so tired of the homer-based guys just blabbing on and on.

He adds some professionalism to the broadcast.

To his credit though, he's not bad and I mean that as a compliment. There have been plenty of times where I've had to watch a non-Boston stream of a game and wanted to mute the game because their crew sucked for one reason or another. Drew is already above that level, which bodes well.

as someone who was disappointed that Sean Grande didn't get the job, i agree that Drew is not bad. he's professional and tries to make some connection with his partner and the audience in his own way. i just hope the connection with the Celtics specifically grows. because this isn't a job for a "general sports guy". i don't care about college football and he seems to bring it up a lot.

When I was constantly searching the web for streams 15 years back I've watched many homer streams with very bad callers but this guy's pretty solid man. Been hearing him for the first time and he does know what he's talking about, solid attitude, can grow still. Dont know what you would dislike so much about him knowing this is like his third game calling.

100%. He's way better than you'd expect someone this young and this new to the gig to be at this point. Not to mention that he'll soon be the official play-by-play guy for the most storied team in basketball, yet he shows no fear of the responsibility. Hats off to this guy.

Think about it like you would a new rookie on this team, taking over from someone whose number is about to get retired.

Luckiest guy alive. Imagine having to be the play by play guy for the Hornets and stay positive.

I think he's quite good, and he definitely does his homework. Good sense of humor as well.

It would be great if he had grown up a Celtics fan, but I won't hold it against him.

WTF. Lock this. Carter is great…..definitely a keeper.

Lolol the OP has zero and1’s.

Even the notorious STUD thread by the TheTruth316 got a few and1’s.

Think he’s doing great. Great voice and seems to have a fast-processing brain — and sense of humor/personality — connected to it.

Good hire by whoever found him!

yeah I don't care that he hasn't been a Celtics fan. but I need him to kind of become one now. if it takes him a few years to feel at home like it did for Tatum, that's fine.

I'm happy to have a non-homer in there, especially taking over for Mike. I loved Tommy, and Johnny Most, but it's always been a minor point of minor pride that Mike calls it pretty straight. Don't get me wrong, I know he LOVES the team and most of its players, but non-Celtic fans listening in get a 'real' call of the game instead of just, like, if you put Eddie House with Scal, two guys chortling about private jokes from the olden days and saying "us" any time they talk about the Celtics.

And if Drew had grown up a Celtic fan, he might be a) more in awe of or b) far more critical of Scalabrine.

He's good, but he also has "im using Boston as a stepping stone to a lucrative national gig" vibes. Not counting on him sticking around for long.

Mike Breen does the Knicks and national and Marv Albert used to do the same. Mark Jones does the Kings and national so it wouldn’t be unheard of for him to stick around even if he does have that goal. Hell, Tommy used to do CBS national games when I was a kid lol.

I like him so far too. I think they were smart to spring the news on about the move kind of last minute so fans wouldn’t have time to dissect it before he even started. Instead, we’re left judging him only on the games he’s done with Scal so far and it’s been pretty good imo. They definitely could have done worse.

Drew mentions here that his dream job has always been doing national NBA broadcasts while having a local NBA team gig -- https://shorturl.at/agnS1. Learn more about him and the hiring/adjustment process in the latest Celtics Beat episode w/ Adam Kaufman. He shares the same birth month and birth year as Svi Mykhailiuk (June 1997) so he's still kinda young.
