Ya know -- even some of the guys who couldn't get minutes, such as Banton and Svi, seem to have been pretty good, at least by the standards of the deep bench.
Banned temporarily for, among other sins, being "Extremely Deviant".

zoyathedestroya wrote:The highlights are the Porzingis and Holiday trades plus the subsequent extensions but SBOBO Brad Stevens has been a very busy dude since the Celtics got eliminated in the playoffs 2023.

• hired Sam Cassell and Charles Lee as assistant coaches
• hired Jeff Van Gundy as consultant
• traded for Kristaps Porzingis and two FRPs
• acquired Jordan Walsh and some future 2nd round picks on draft night using one FRP
• signed Oshae Brissett to two-year deal
• signed JD Davison to two-way contract
• extended Kristaps Porzingis
• signed Jay Scrubb to two-way contract
• signed Dalano Banton to two-year deal
• extended Jaylen Brown
• signed Svi Mykhailiuk
• signed Neemias Queta to two-way contract
• signed Lamar Stevens
• signed a bunch of guys for Maine
• traded for Jrue Holiday, burning one own future FRP
• extended Payton Pritchard
• signed Nathan Knight to two-way contract (Scrubb waived)
• signed Drew Peterson to two-way contract (Knight waived)
• traded for Xavier Tillman, burning two 2RPs
• traded for Jaden Springer, burning one 2RP
• signed Neemias Queta to two-year deal
• extended Jrue Holiday

Lot of good stuff out of the less heralded deals in there. Kind of forgot the JB extension would be considered this year, too, he's had a busy year lol.

Brad's done a Great job, shoring up this team. Making it somewhat injury-proof.
We've been able to survive the 1-month Playoff loss, of one of our Top 6. That's no small feat.

Let's see what Stevens has in store, come the offseason.

Next up for Brad: White, Tatum, and Hauser extensions. Plus shoring up center position in prep for Horford retirement and Porzingis situation.

The Celtics haven't lost to Kyrie since Brad Stevens became SBOBO. Where's his statue?

Brad was always regarded as one of the brilliant minds in the NBA, but he finally got his validation with a championship. Danny brought the Jays, but he never would've traded Smart or like three 1st round draft picks in a row. Brad had a vision and he got the job done.

In the summer of 2013, Danny Ainge realized the Celtics had passed their title window as KG and Pierce had aged out of their primes. He tried to negotiate a deal centered around KG for DeAndre Jordan. Doc Rivers informed Ainge that he did not want to coach a rebuilding team. The Clippers wanted Doc, so Ainge tried to expand the deal to the Clippers to include Doc for a first rounder compensation. Because this was framed as a single deal that combined coach and players in one trade, the league forbade the trade, and banned the Celtics from making a KG-to-Clippers trade.

Ainge then hired Brad Stevens into the Celtics organization to replace Doc, and traded KG and Pierce to the Nets for draft picks that would later become Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Brad Stevens would assume the role of GM, and fill in most of the other spots on the roster. The rest is history. So, in a weird twist of fate, Doc Rivers is indirectly responsible for most of the roster on this most recent Celtics championship. A butterfly flapped its wings.
