I have not thought this through. Either way, I think the league is fine. Great bball is still being played imo despite the increase in 3-pters.

Ratings schmatings. People just consume content differently these days. Multiple media networks wouldn’t wanna bid for rights if the NBA wasn’t a lucrative business.

Get rid of the dumb podcasts and announcers who spew nothing but negative things about the game.

Brad Stevens says if you eliminate corner 3s, plays at the rim would become less frequent. The D could largely ignore that part of the floor and pack the paint.

Most of these ideas are going to have unintended consequences.

Eliminate Back-to-Backs - okay if shortnening the season, but with 82 games, that means competing more with baseball playoffs and other sports.

Reform Shooter Initiated Fouls – to be Offensive Fouls Jesus, just make them non-calls. I don't need to see more ref-involvement.

Increase the NBA Court size – (At least 6 ft, in width and length.) - This is fine, but what's the motivation? If it's to make the 3 point line a uniform distance, then that's cool.

Increase the number of Referees. (I.e: 4-5 On-Court. 1 on Replays. 1 In-Training [from G-League].)
I get it. You dilute one's influence, but these guys are mental midgets and will start to call fouls just out of boredom.

Coach's Challenge – Increase = 2 initially, expandable to 4. Fine if they can get the time to do a review cut down considerably.
Draft – Add a 3rd+ Round(s), for Drafting Two-Way Players, etc + Increase to up to 5 x Two-Ways per Team. I guess. Why not?

Decrease the number of Regular Season Games Played. - Sure.

I'd start on these right away:

1) Remove technicals for taunting, hanging on the rim, etc
2) Gradually replace refs with AI and sensors, make the code open source so it can be trusted.

I'd go with these, but roll them out cautiously.

1) Decrease the number of games to make the games more important, cutting gradually by 5 games per season until we see some improvement.

2) Widen the court. make the 3 point distance uniform, and maybe make it a bit further.

3) Relax defensive 3 seconds, try making it 4 or 5 in the G leagues.

4) Let the games be more physical.

I posted this on another Thread, earlier in the year.:

I wanna go on record, and say that I believe that we should have an "All 6th-Man" 1st, 2nd & maybe 3rd Team.
Kinda like All-Defensive Team. Not really concerned about an All-Defensive Player of the year, nor a 6th-Man of the Year.

IMO, when those Awards first started, there might have been only one qualified Player. No longer.
Quite a few Teams have a 6th-Man. Some, have more than one, so to speak. This Award needs to be expanded.

Also, All-Defensive Team should be expanded to 3 Teams, from the current 2.

OTHER - I've never understood why a jump ball is contested between the players that had the ball in dispute. Let's say Pritchard makes a great play on Wembanyama, ties him up and gets a jump ball. Doesn't really reward him by giving the team an even chance of winning possession. Jump balls should be able to be contested by whoever the team nominates so it is at least close to being 50/50.

Increasing the court size would be great to eliminate the cheesy corner trey, but it will never fly because owners would have to give up seating capacity.

1. Reduce the number of officials to two. No more parades to the free throw line.
2. Adopt international rules (except the FIBA goaltending rules) with 48 minute quarters. In any event, get rid of defensive three seconds because it's never called.
3. Bring back hand checking.
4. Flops are technical fouls.
5. Call travelling when players travel.
6. Call offensive three seconds. I can't remember the last time I saw it called, even when guys camp out in the lane.

Some of the changes I would like would already be mentioned. Most are not realistic.
I would love if there were 24 teams instead of this many. If you don’t make the playoffs you have a near guarantee at getting a rookie that will either make a real impact or at least be part of a rotation and it will leave one city hope they are not years and years apart from potentially forming a contender. Each dean gets to at least dream about it and not feel they will forever languish in the middle.
I’d like 62 games with never a back to back. It’s an ugly game to attend even if your team goes home winning.
I think eliminating corner two’s is a good one. I would never widen the court . It would have a negative effect to where shooters were MORE spread out.
Crack down on the handchick and eliminate impeding progress off ball. As soon as a 2nd hand is on a defender that is an automatic foul. Guys need to be able to freely set a pick. They abandon enforcing this every year in the playoffs and its hideous ball resulting in ugly iso possessions.
I’d make the first and 2nd round 5 games and shorten the games a bunch . Four 10 minute quarters .
I’d make hoops mote of a summer sport delaying the beginning of the season.

Give teams a cap discount for players on the roster that they drafted or signed as an undrafted rookie.

IIRC the taxes and aprons were supposed to stop a team from just buying players.

League instituted max contracts supposedly to enable the team to retain their home-grown players and foster identification of players with franchises.

BUT NOW, through the new CBA, the league penalizes teams that draft well and develop home-grown talent thru taxes and aprons, forcing teams to break up the teams they've grown.

Cavs roster construction just got screwed cuz Mobley won defensive player of the year, making him max eligible. So good draft and development = trading to make team worse... Is this the desired result?

I really want to see what the NBA would look like if there's no defensive 3 seconds violation.

Just youtube NBA 90s highlights. Style of play. Presentation that gives you chills. NBA has been going south for years. The way sport is marketed is a joke.

The two teams with the worst records in each conference are relegated to the G-league, and replaced by the top two teams in each conference of the G-league. That's what they do in soccer and it would eliminate tanking for good.

Rule change of exclusive man to man defense being phased out resulted in different style of play.

In its simplest form, that's not consistent with using the G League as a minor league.

Well then relegate them to FIBA. I'm sure something could be worked out.

I'd like to see 2 changes.

1. 3PTA allotment. At tip, a team has a certain number of 3 point attempts to use, say 40. After you've taken 40 3PTA, every FGA, no matter the court location, counts as a 2PTA

2. The difference between a supermax and a max doesn't count against the cap. If C's draft Jayson Tatum and he qualifies for a $60 million max by winning awards like All-NBA, MVP, DPOY etc and a max for a player that doesn't win awards is $45 million. JT gets his full $60 million but the salary only counts $45 million on the cap.

This needs to change yesterday. The league wants teams to keep their stars, but punishes them for doing so.

Personally, I'd like to see super bird rights introduced, keep a player for ~8 straight seasons, and a percentage of their contract doesn't count towards the cap/tax, regardless of whether or not they sign a supermax.

The system is SUPPOSED to help teams keep their franchise players. But the way it is now can almost force teams to trade their stars earlier than they want to. As soon as JB made all NBA, pundits were like, "now Boston won't be able keep him longterm, anymore..."
And, secondarily, the system makes front offices root against their own players winning awards so teams can pay the lower max rather than supermax... its pretty dumb

10 minute quarters. Keep 5 for OT, that’s fine.

There’s still a rule on the book to my knowledge to penalize a player with a tech for flopping. I think it was still Stern era but they gave up on enforcing it probably not even a third of the way into the season it was introduced. WHY. It’s gotten really out of hand now.

72 game seasons. Fat chance here. I know NBA guys are more than well compensated for their time and toll on their bodies but my god does that have to contribute to so many injuries rn.

Maybe change how regular season awards are given. No reason Jokic shouldn’t have been MVP. If you’re going to let them claim voter fatigue, either make it a scoring system tailed throughout the season or eliminate the ability to win an award in B2B years. The voters are frauds on this anyway.

Like other have suggested, they need to do something with the Supermax and how it’s factored into the cap. Celtics got boned here for keeping multiple homegrown talents. OKC will too.
