I don't trust PP in the playoffs. I can't do it.
Looking at potential playoff match-ups, it doesn't look good for him. Orlando and the Cavs do a good job against him. And if he's not scoring his average that means he's not putting pressure on the other team because his defense is not very good. Regular season he can have a great night and it's move on to the next city. Playoffs is all about match-ups, schemes and adjustments. Once they exploit him and force him to get rid of the ball he becomes a liability because of his defense.
Looks like he'll win the 6th man this season, but if he craps the bed in the playoffs that'll sting. Last season he averaged 10ppg reg season and 6ppg in the playoffs. I'm pretty sure he gave up more than 6ppg on defense in the playoffs.
I trust White to step up 100% in the playoffs. I'm less than 50/50 that PP will be able to match his regular season output in the big moment.
Disagree. I absolutely trust PP in the playoffs because he TAKES CARE OF THE BALL. Also shoots 90%+ from the line. The player I don't trust is Brown, and I will never trust him in a close game. It's feast or famine with him.
As far as taking care of the ball, I agree, but in the playoffs when adjustments are made and teams scheme you for a series the player has to be able to score their averages to keep the defense honest. That is because the rotations are shrunken.
Pick any main rotational player from the C's or any from another NBA team that has been consistently in the playoffs over the last 5 seasons. They score their averages which means they adjust to what the defense gives them. The premier players do a little better on the big stage. JT and JB score their averages. So do White, Al and Jrue. That is why they are able to rely on those guys to adjust and step up to match what the defense brings. If you can't score your average, but become a liability on the defensive end that is a problem.
Two games that stick in my mind with PP are game 3 against Dallas and the last game against the Cavs. Both games the Celtics had comfortable leads until PP entered. Leads were lost and PP did not contribute offensively. IMO, that cannot happen this season if Joe is going to give him regular season minutes in the post season.
