Now who's overvaluing? Lin, Parsons, Asik, and TJones are all average to above average starter-caliber players with borderline star upside. Ainge would have to seriously consider it if fatboy offers 3 of those 4 and picks.

I don't see that type of deal happening. Lin + Asik together will be paid 30 million next season. Can't see us giving up our best player and shelling out that kind of money on top of it.

That is not a strong argument.

Acquiring Rondo would all but kill any Love to Houston ideas.

Rondo would have to then agree to want to go to Minnesota. But to do what? Play alongside Ricky Rubio?

It has zero impact on cap flexibility. They count as 8 and 8 against the cap and come off the books in 2015.

The cap and clearing it in 2015 is all that matters; the rest is just pocket money for owners.

Yeah, I know that it has nothing to do with the cap. But what owner wants to pay that much out of his pocket when it won't make your team significantly better?

They are all replaceable parts, and none does much to set us up going forward, especially not with the opportunity costs involved. Add a lottery pick to a couple of those dudes and I am listening. Otherwise, it's a quality over quantity league. We have plenty of those caliber players already and can easily get more with the bazillion draft picks we have.

The point is that Ainge will not let Rondo walk for nothing in free agency.

No need to trade Rondo right now IMO. I love the ridiculous trade offers for him from other teams fans. Amar'e, Felton, and a 2018 pick for Rondo or Parsons/Lin and a first for Rondo and Green lol GTFOH.

Celtics call the shots when it comes to a Rondo trade. Two first rounders, ONE young guy AND you take Gerald Wallace sending us a big expiring. Either that or nothing. Think it's too much? find yourself another All star PG noobs.

The Knicks would actually fit the bill if they had any decent draft picks to deal. Amar'e, Shumpert, Hardaway JR, 2 firsts for Wallace, Faverani and Rondo would work for me.
WHAT THEY GON’ SAY NOW? ‎ THANK YOU TRUTH!

You aren't getting Love, dude.

As for Rondo, we'll see. If a Love trade went down before next summer, Wolves would have his Bird Rights and ability to add a 5th year or sign-and-trade. Means more for him than it would mean for Love.

Houston is the team that I thought made the most sense to trade for Rondo but I recognize Sacramento has been trying to make a splash as well. The difference is Houston could be more confident Rondo signs with them. Their window is relatively short and they are the one contender that could really benefit from an upgrade at PG and has the money to do it. Houston has won 7 straight games. 3rd place in the WC but they are at a disadvantage at PG compared to the other WC contenders.

Parsons is good but the same question that I have with Rondo...how much will he get paid by some other team after next year? I do think Parsons should have very good trade value since you can send him to some contender with a pick from a bad team then they I think they can sign him to an extension.

The key phrase was in my post and it was LOTTERY PICK.

They don't have one.

Mea culpa.

But Ainge did say that the asking price for Rondo was 2 firsts.

What do you think would be the best trading partner for Boston given these rumors suggesting that Rondo's trade is being actively discussed?

No, Sam Smith said that. Ainge said he wasn't trading a dollar for 4 quarters.

Caveman's been saying this for awhile now:

26. Boston Celtics (19-35; last week's ranking: 26): Source said Sacramento offered Isaiah Thomas, Ben McLemore and two picks for Rajon Rondo. Rondo wasn’t interested in re-signing with Sacramento.

Now, how does that work, exactly? Does SAC contact Rondo thru back channels and ask him how he feels about resigning or does Ainge say "hey Rondo, got a good trade for you on the table from Sac, they just wanna know if you'll resign." I mean I doubt Ainge does that and I doubt SAC offers anything without Rondo's assurance, so it must be backchannels, right?

That's really interesting. I'd imagine through Rondo's agent somehow.

It's tough being a Celtics fan near the trading deadline. So stressful and you never know who's next.

Any of the above. His agent can talk to whoever he likes.

Okay, maybe it's not the worse trade talent wise (it still favors Houston) but Lin and Parsons don't do squat for us in a short or long term rebuilding situation...neither of them are one of a "new big three". Asik is a nice serviceable center but coughing up Freakin Rondo for him isn't worth it. We likely lose both Parsons and Asik the next year anyway....I'd rather just keep and resign Rondo.

This is a significantly better trade. McLemore is still a potential, we get a serviceable young point guard, and two easily tradable or potentially very valuable draft picks.
