I blame the past! We gave so much money to useless Bum Baynes… should’ve just saved the money for moments like these. Lakers or suns might sign him and he will drop 30 on us

At least he already retired. You'll never hear about him again. Can't win em all.

Bad move.
Springer is sunk cost and will be gone after the season.
Should have kept Walker, a legitimate NBA player.
Disappointing.
You hate to see Cap Cost overruling quality depth.

Sending him to Maine temporarily is a pipe dream then.

Walsh obviously benefits from the Walker cut. In fact, Walsh's strong showing might have led the team to make this decision.
Springer could now get an opportunity.
The Celtics didn't experiment with double bigs every preseason game for nothing. So the other potential beneficiary, ahead of Springer, is Queta. Tillman could play pf as much or more than center.

Celtics roster seems set for the regular season:
Ballhandlers - J. Holiday, D. White, P. Pritchard, JD Davison (two-way)
Wings - J. Brown, J. Tatum, S. Hauser, J. Walsh, J. Springer, B. Scheierman, D. Peterson (two-way), A. Watson (two-way)
Bigs - K. Porzingis (injured), A. Horford, L. Kornet, X. Tillman Sr, N. Queta

Not a fan of waiving him. Feel like Walker could’ve been great injury insurance and help with load managing our guards throughout the year.
I guess we like our guys enough to give Walsh & Springer those minutes instead

Feels like a Bad Omen to start the season,
and since the last Celtics team to repeat was 1969,
Bad Omens are not what you need...

It'll be interesting to see who snaps him up. I don't think he'll ever suit up for Maine. He's a legitimate NBA player.

Not a fan, but it seems silly to second-guess Brad now. With that said, if they fail to repeat and we hear stuff from the players about "we got complacent" and stuff like that, then we will be looking back at this moment and thinking that perhaps if we had brought a new guy into the mix then maybe there would be more urgency to win.

If the Celtics don't repeat and anyone in their right mind think it was because they did not have Walker I don't know what to tell you. If you are banking on Walker for a repeat, well, it's not happening anyway.

I liked the new shiny thing at first and the microwave potential but this won't make or break going back to back.
I'm gonna go the Dr. Mazzulla Psy. D route. They kicked the tires not necessarily to lock him up for the 15th spot but to see how Walsh responds. He's a 10ppg scorer who played with LeBron and had a really good playoff performance. IMO, if he was in their plans from day one then he'd be coming off the bench before everyone except PP and Sam. Instead, Walsh saw more minutes every night. And not just garbage minutes.
I bet Walsh's confidence level just got higher today.

Re: Welcome to (Maine at best), Lonnie Walker!!!
The end of an era... or at least an exhibit.
Not surprised. A bit disappointed. Lonnie seemed to fit in well, and bring that extra offensive power off the bench that we haven't seen in the deep bench. Maybe Scheierman, Walsh and Peterson will step up, but they are very different, unproven players.
Is this the best news for Springer? I like Springer, but it's interesting how he hasn't really seemed to jell with the team yet. Like, he's off to the side somehow and not part of the inside group yet. I may be reading too much into the body language.
It seems a lot of posters and socials were ready to pack Jaden's bags. He must have some awareness of this, so it remains to be seen how it motivates him. The offense off the bench is already quite good, so Walker would have been gravy.
If Springer can create an identity with this year's Stay Ready group, and have discipline to follow the role that Joe identifies for him, I think he could be out there with say, Tillam (Queta), Hauser, Walsh and Pritchard and focus on moving the ball on offense and being a dawg on defense. That would be enough with other scorers out there with him. If he can consistently hit that corner three, that will open up more possibilities.
But back to Walker: maybe Brad's got something up his sleeve. We'll see if the Maine plan has legs. With all the buzz about this signing, I'm sure there are a few teams with roster/cap space available that will be inquiring soon.

I said earlier that we should respect the success of Celtics management. We'll see what happens down the road. They will certainly get more flowers from me if this results in a stronger team and doesn't help a rival. If they missed ln this it is fair game to criticize,
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

I don't think Walker was a big difference maker, but in the NBA arm's race, with contender's loading up to make a better challenge to the Celtics, sometimes it's best to stockpile the bench (which was the C's apparent weakness).
In the 2024 eastern playoffs, our opponents had missing pieces for stretches: Mitchell, Haliburton, and arguably a banged up Luka.
This season, if Walker goes to, say, NY, and we face them in the playoffs, and the Celtics miss White (God forbid) for a couple games while Lonnie is on payback mode, well...things like that do happen, and it could get dicey. I personally liked the Walker insurance policy better than the Springer, Walsh, Peterson policy if only based on the merit of Walker being a more experienced player and having shown ability to show in the playoffs.
