Re: Welcome to Boston, Aaron Nesmith!
The only way he'll get a chance really is if Semi is gone. Semi is shooting 17% from 3 the last 10 games yet continues to get significant minutes. And he makes one little stop and Brad is calling him an unsung hero. If that doesn't scream coach's pet then I don't know what that is. Freaking ridiculous.

Is he even in Boston or on the Celtics roster? I get he hasn’t looked great but can we get this kid some god damn minutes.

Re: Welcome to Boston, Aaron Nesmith!
What sucks for Nesmith is that Brad really demands good defense from the wing and swing positions. As Nesmith is a rookie, he's still learning and because there's virtually no practice time, he has no real avenue to earn Brad's trust out there on D. Pritchard gets by because his D is better for sure but also because Brad doesn't and has never required defense from the 1 spot. And in fact, he's been more than willing to jettison defensive 1's in favor of more scoring from the point spot. But he holds that wing position to a much higher standard.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

Re: Welcome to Boston, Aaron Nesmith!
With all the injuries and the bench playing like crap and he still can’t even sniff the floor. That’s laugh out loud bad how atrocious he has to be to not see ANY minutes during this last week and a half.
Meanwhile Saddiq Bey (who I wanted) lights it up and was shooting 37% 3PT coming into tonight.

What's mindboggling is they would've known going into the draft that Aaron Nesmith is gonna be slowfooted and a work in progress on defense, yet they still chose him over other shooters that are already projected to be good defenders (Bey, Bane). Nesmith was put in a situation where he can't win. As a shooter, he needs minutes to build confidence, but he'll never get minutes here because Brad needs him to work on his weakness first instead of finding ways of giving him a role based on his strengths.

I hear the defensive concerns but Edwards is getting minutes and he is not very good. It looks to me like they are trying to enhance Edwards and Semi's trade value as smaller pieces. That really is the only thing that makes sense to me given the teams offensive issues.

Nesmith is right up there with Jerome Moiso in terms of Celtics lottery picks that were obvious busts from the moment they stepped on the court

FWIW, I wanted Bey because I knew he could defend and that he would get PT accordingly. I also wanted Poku cuz, if we were going to pick a rookie who wont play, lets at least swing for the fences and pick the kid with the unicorn ceiling.
Instead, we picked low ceiling Aaron **** Nesmith, a wing who couldnt pass or defend and was being hyped up cuz he went on a heater vs a softer than puppy **** non-conference schedule.
So damn frustrating.

Shades of Gabe Pruitt who may have been the worst I've seen. Dude was major shook.
But I think a lot of us knew James Young had bust all over him. Lost my mind over that pick in that moment.
This is especially painful considering all the nice contributors across the board in this draft. I was looking at Hali and Vassell as mandatory trade up for targets.
I admit I wasn't as high on Bey for the ceiling but I was ok with him since he may of had the highest floor

I'm ready to jettison Nesmith in a Barnes deal. Even if he ever blossoms, it won't be for a few seasons and that's not going to work for us.

Just kidding, just wish there were SOMETHING/ANYTHING going on with this story of a lottery pick on a losing team starved for wings that they won’t play.

I had the exact same view. When Vassell, Haliburton and Lewis got picked right in front of us it became a choice between the safe option in Saddiq Bey or go for a raw project with a potentially high ceiling in Pokusevski. Very disappointed that they chose Nesmith. Then they picked Pritchard which I liked and obviously still do, but then they basically gave away their last first rounder which could have been either Bane or Tillman.
The team is on thin ice. We're losing assets and value. A few more mistakes and building a championship core around Tatum and Brown becomes a very difficult task. We need the youngsters we have in Pritchard, Edwards, Langford, Nesmith, G.Williams and R.Williams to develop. Either to build up value as trading pieces for established players who fit the Brown-Tatum timeline or as members of a contender worthy supporting cast.
Not playing Nesmith in a game like last night where we were in a back-to-back and missing 4 players it makes you question the coach. Like WTH are we doing???

The Suns picked Jalen Smith at #10. Would they really not have taken a deal of #14 + #30 (and/or another piece)?
This was a draft to trade up and the Celtics had the picks to do it.

He’s already gone. Any GM with talent would demand that Nesmith is included in any trade as a throw in as its pretty obvious Ainge couldnt walk away from a deal due to his inclusion.

Re: Welcome to Boston, Aaron Nesmith!
Think of all the "Bey State" puns that could have been made.
I find it hard to trash Nesmith given how little of an opportunity he's been given. It's just implied that he's a disaster because he isn't even given the opportunity to show it. I find it painful to have to watch Teague/Javonte/Carsen get minutes ahead of him. None of them have upside either and rarely contribute. At least let me watch our wasted pick self-immolate instead.
Just hoping Ainge is playing the long game and not letting Nesmith embarrass himself in the hopes of him retaining enough value to be part of the trade we use our big TPE on.

Yeah, that IS the thing right?? I actually was slow to come around on Bey. But as we got closer to the draft, it finally started to click for me that we may need to choose guys that can hit the ground running over long-term projects. So I had my mind all ready for Bey to be the option. That made sense. A 4-year guy(?) who came in ready to play defense. Danny, despite knowing that Langford would not be available any time soon, choose what I can only assume he believes is the better future prospect in Nesmith. The intelligence thing is a BIG thing for Brad. I think they HAD to know this year might be a wash for Nesmith but when things get back to normal and they are able to work with him for real, will have a much higher ceiling. And I have to assume Brad has spoken to him about how this year might possibly go due to the restrictions. There's still a lot to like about Nesmith and this is just his first year.

Re: Welcome to Boston, Aaron Nesmith!
How often are we even practicing right now? At what point will Nesmith ever get the chance to prove himself?
Marcus said last night he can't even remember the last time we've practiced. I just don't know how he's going to get on the court.
Bey's stats for the month of January (15 games): 7/3/1 on 37% from the floor and 37% from 3. It's not like this guy has been on fire since day 1. He's worked his way into it. He was even worse in December and he's been hot for Feb (14/4/1 on 55% and 55%). Nesmith isn't getting that opportunity, which is partially understandable considering where the Pistons are at vs. the Celtics, but if Aaron can't get minutes on the second night of a back to back with 3 key guys out and us needing a wing, when does he?

Yeah, he's probably not. Now he may begin to get some run late in the year. Like Game 50. Game 55 maybe. Or maybe we just have to accept that in this unprecedented year, he just doesn't get on the court much, but when things get back to normal next season we start to see what we hoped we'd see with him.
If he does nothing this year. But averages 12-14 ppg next year, is he still a bust?
