Re: Grant Williams
Definitely eating crow on him, I was very wrong about him.
Is he better already than PJ Tucker has ever been now? Or is it too early to say? Tucker is a far better rebounder but he could never go off and pop like 7 threes in a crucial playoff game either

Hopefully we can keep him even if we did the KD trade.

Deveney has never been much of an insider but whatever, for lack of real news, I'm posting this still. If that figure holds, it's a steal with the rising cap.

I've thought 4/48 always made sense.
Put him on the same deal as Timelord. No he's not as impactful, but Rob would be paid massively more if there weren't worries about availability/longevity, which Grant doesn't have at all. With the way he played in the playoffs and with the cap rising, as you mentioned, 4/55 is probably still a bargain for what Grant gives you.
I honestly thought his price might end up surpressed if he lost time out to Gallo this year but it's probably going to be the opposite now. He's going to have every opportunity to earn closer to 4/60+ with the amount of minutes he gets.
Unless he really regresses I think he's locked in as a 4/44 or 48 guy at a minimum.

I agree as well. Grant is versatile and still has room to expand his game. His smarts, hard work and elite strength are paying off. Literally.

Re: Grant Williams
I am gonnna disagree, Grant could get there but really I don;t think he is there yet, he is undersized not super fast and while he is smart he is a limited player. He shot well from 3 last year but that was by far the best perfomance of his career. The advanced stats don't love him....I would ideally see him on a 4 year 32 million dollar contract. I don't see other teams rushing to scoop him up...I would not offer more then the midlevel for sure.

Re: Grant Williams
So how much do you pay a guy that probably is almost maxed out. Never really cared for him last year looked like a top 8 rotation

They should throw in body fat percentage and 3p% incentives, like they did with Smart

Re: Grant Williams
Nance, Stevens Adams, and (I can't remember who) setting the extension market price for backup type bigs (though Adams is technically a starter)? Grant is younger and can shoot better but curious to know how much he's looking for.

Re: Grant Williams
Yeah these Nance and Adams extensions are giving me hope. Grant being younger might pump his value a little bit but I can't see a team giving him double what Larry Nance Jr. makes or even 50% more than what Adams makes.
I guess it really comes down to his 3 point shooting. If he can stay over 40% again this season maybe that changes and he can get something in the high 40s/low 50s in terms of money. Between that and his versatile defense he genuinely could appeal to a lot of teams that just need consistency to put next their stars (which incidentally is exactly what we need).
Hopefully these other extensions are more indicative of the market and we can keep him on something reasonable.

Re: Grant Williams
The Brogdon comment and the rumored 55 million has me excited that Grant is ready to take a significant step forward this year. Don’t discount the fact that this man played great defense on Durant and Giannis in back to back series. That’s big time stuff. Now he needs to become a more consistent offensive player and put more pressure on the defense when attacking close outs. I think he has it in him but we gotta see it.

Re: Grant Williams
Grant seems like about the last guy who'd get bent out of shape about fairly handled salary negotiations.
1. He's analytically smart. And his foray into union politics means that he has committed to knowing something about negotations. If the Celtics' moves in negotations are fair, he'll know they're fair.
2. His personality is such that he induces people around him to mildly insult him pretty frequently. So we can infer that he is not thin-skinned. In particular, he's unlikely to freak out about some imaginary insult from being offered a slightly smaller 8 digit annual salary than he was hoping for, or having the offer made a couple months later than it could have been.
None of this implies home-town discounts, career-long loyalty, etc. It just argues against the grudges or other destructive irrationality athletes sometimes show.

Re: Grant Williams
There's a thread on the GB asking about the best 1-through-5 defenders. For your consideration: Grant Williams.
