Median nba offense this year so far is ~112.5.

Which means it’s number one on the list and everyone else.

There are a few half court plays we've run which have been more efficient but probably not at that volume. A White (1.84 PPP) or PP (1.86 PPP) off screen shot would still be better for example.

Analytics guy, Joe Mazzulla sees this **** and still lets JT go multiple trips in a row without a touch. If I have to see Sam Hauser or Payton Pritchard chuck up a contested early clock three again with JT standing in the corner having not touched the basketball I'm gonna lose my mind. I know they're capable of making it, but when **** gets tight in big games against good teams they tend to brick everything they throw up. And the precedent is already set that they're allowed to shoot whatever the **** they want whenever they want lol.

Joe is just experimenting.

Just like last season making JB a playmaker frustrated us all.

But it paid off in the playoffs.

Picked up another one.

Would trade this for the win in OKC though. :(

Jokic's numbers are stupid.

Tatum is 10th in usage in the entire league and among those ten guys, Jokic, SGA and Cunningham are the only one remotely close in terms of minutes played. I really don't think it's necessary/desirable to increase his workload further in the regular season.

JT keeps raking in POTW like tic tacs, fans love him, and he’s a superstar, he needs more MVP hype!! I hoped he’d take MVP if I could get a few votes off tiring of jok, but everybody is loving SGA and Giannis (they should).

If it wins us more games (as it is proven to have done), then it absolutely is necessary. Especially in the JT/bench lineups. Going up and down the floor multiple times in a row without him getting a touch should never occur

Unfortunately he has no argument over SGA right now

SGA already reached his ceiling.

JT has yet to get off the elevator when it comes to how high he goes up.

Why ? It's not like the Celtics are remotely in danger of missing the playoffs. This is a team that has gone 20-14 at home and 21-7 on the road over its last three playoff runs. Do you even want to chase home court considering those splits ? Just can't see why it would be worth risking Tatum's health (and therefore the Celtics season).

OK this supports/boosts my idea that Boston's weakness at times are too many mouths to feed and especially in the starting units. That and of course Tatum's number one obstacle to achieving an MVP award is lack of usage. Especially when compared to the Usage rate of someone like Doncic.

You think they're gonna go a whole season with lower-usage Tatum then all of a sudden flip the script in the Playoffs and decide to give him the ball more? I sincerely doubt that lol. This is the precedent Joe has set and we will continue to see Hauser/Pritch/White, etc. look him off multiple possessions in a row in the Playoffs.

His usage didn't even go up last title run. I don't think it will as long as he's paired with JB. But there's positives to that. When they wanted to attack Herro in the 1st round, Bam was on JT and JB toyed around with Herro to great effect. JB's usage was in high 20s or low 30s while JT was low to mid 20s. C's should NOT up JB's usage against elite defensive teams like 2023 Heat, 2022 Warriors, and this season's OKC.

Plus I don't think usage rate would register JT being primary initiator and the play leading to hockey assists or those swing-swing makes off his decision-making.

General Board makes me feel like I've been underrating Tatum the past couple of seasons.

The logic on page 1 is shaping up like --

• sophomore Wembanyama > current Tatum coming off a ring
• sophomore Luka > sophomore Wembanyama
• so sophomore Luka > sophomore Wembanyama > current Tatum coming off a ring
• so sophomore Luka >> current Tatum coming off a ring

I mean, I've gotta be underrating Tatum.

"It's probably a useless stat." -- Joe Mazzulla

Took me years, but I tend to agree with him now. Usage rate doesn't take into account scenario above. There should be a better stat to track how much a player dominates the ball (touches and dribbles not enough either) and carries possessions.

Tatum responding on his IG about being called the softest superstar in Celtics history.

Lots of good stuff here. It's not just about JT, but they discuss him a lot and the rest is comparisons between OKC, Cavs, and the Celtics.

Players with 120 isolation possessions and 1.15 points per possession
Jayson Tatum (223, 1.16)

Players with 120 isolation possessions and 1.10 points per possession
Jayson Tatum (223, 1.16)
Kevin Durant (120, 1.11)

Players with 120 isolation possessions and 1.05 points per possession
Jayson Tatum (223, 1.16)
Kevin Durant (120, 1.11)
James Harden (289, 1.07)
Jalen Brunson (154, 1.08)
Kyrie Irving (149, 1.09)

In the middle of all the moaning about the Celtics having only the 6th best defense in the league I thought we could take a minute to acknowledge Tatum is the most efficient isolation player in the league.
