On the other hand, Danny could've at least made a little effort to sign a guard or 2, who know what the **** they are doing, these guys were flat out horrible, only Mitchell was decent and I think he's a SF, right?

edit: also Fab is progressing, slowly, but surely, he still needs work. Not that bad of a game by him tho, 9pts/8 boards is decent I guess.

Well, Nolan Smith got hurt, and Pressey actually played quite well after a rough start. What they really needed was more from the wings.

Melo is so hard to figure. Last year I thought he would never make it because he seemed to have no feel for rebounding. Today he looked pretty good on the boards, really using his height and snatching several rebounds away with authority, high-pointing the ball and swooping in. He's obviously worked on his body and worked on defensive rebounding a lot. He also clearly has worked on his post play, converting a couple of nice hooks, even showing a little touch But he remained awful finishing around the basket. He needs stronger hands and needs to be more ferocious under there

Iverson had a few good minutes but looked a little overwhelmed. I thought he would be stronger. He got pushed around more than I expected. He didn't even try to play offense.

Pressey could be a backup PG in the NBA. As advertised he had some bad turnovers, but his handle was excellent, he shot the ball well and he also drove the lane nicely. On D he got his hands on balls and was peskier than the scouting reports suggested.

Lots to be encouraged by today. Olynyk is really interesting. We might have a real keeper there.

Olynyk was amazing, He can score in any possibile way, Melo was solid and much better than last year, Mitchell was very good, Pressey started over-excited and made some mistakes but from the start on he had quite a good game and is a very annoying defender, plays with effort, Iverson looks solid but nothing particularly exiting.

On a negative note, Johnson-Odom was playing against the world...

The problem is with Paul handling tht much, he's playing off the ball, and he's not good at that.

Griffin isn't that efficient imo, i see him brick a lot when he is pushin it offensively in the paint. Plus he is more a highlight player with his dunk, which are overated most of the time.

Griffin is a finesse player, his technique is high level, not only his physique.

He's a great passer, he can handle the ball, he can create offense.

He has regressed from his rookie season because Paul has the ball all the damn time, they need to go through Blake on offense, I hope Doc figure it out more.

Griffin is really underrated as an offensive weapon, he's really polished.

Sometimes he look ridiculous with the ball, not sure he is elite at that.

Starting to wonder why Melo is even on the team. He's too raw. -- Doesn't seem like he really wants to be playing this sport. Come back in a few years -- Iff (if and only if) you get the Spirit to actually play, AND some BBIQ.

He played well today.

Fab Melo was terrible last year against Orlando. He looked pretty good today. To see that kind of progress is really great. If he plateaus here, forget it.... He won't be a player. But he has made as big an improvement as Perk did in his rookie year to next.

If Melo finishes his rookie contract as a guy you want to resign for 4 million - like Perk, that would be awesome and the fact that he has improved so much is a positive sign. If he could play this well all summer, we might even be able to play him 25 min per game this season and accomplish 2 important goals: tank and develop.

He's already gotten traded for a better return than Bargnani just fetched, on his first day in the league.

I think Perk is a good comparison for Melo in terms of project development (not their playing styles/abilities). Both were viewed as needing multiple years to develop into anything worthwhile in the league. After a few years it panned out for Perk. I'm not saying Melo will pan out or not, but he deserves the same patience. He has definitely improved.

Agree 100%.

As long as he works hard and continues to improve, then why give up on him? If he has peaked already than yeah he is a bust. Mark Blount may not inspire excitement but he was out of NBA until age 25 and was a 3 year project before he earned a big contract ( and then quit playing hard ). Big men can be late bloomers and Melo has the size and shot blocking ability to be worth the wait if he ever develops.

I'm also really encouraged to see how much his body has improved since we drafted him. That is a sign of good work ethic and is often the downfall of bigs who bust.

Glad to hear a few positive things about Melo today. I missed most of the game, just sitting down to watch some of it now on DVR. I was curious how he did as much as the rookies. Really, he needs to keep progressing enough to look like a nice trade asset IMO.

Victor Oladipo will be a coach, TV analyst and GM. I don't know how good of a player he will be or if he lives up to #2 pick hype. But the guy is a winner to the core and will be a key to an NBA championship some day. I am already a huge fan.

Yup. I would love it if we got him up here some day.

my take from today.

-Olynyk looked like a polished veteran on the offensive end and a rookie playing his first summer league game on the defensive game. But from what I hear he has the work ethic and BBall IQ to improve quickly on that end of the court. Looks like a nice pic by Danny.

-Fab Melo still looks terrible. Low IQ. doesn't anticipate on either end of the court. Looks awkward out there. Has a long way to go before he can be trusted in an NBA game.

-Iverson looks like he'll be an NBA player. He brings good energy. Plays tough.

-Mitchell looked good.

-Wasn't impressed with Pressey. but I'll give him more time before judging him.

Agree with most of this post. The only differences I would say is at least Melo looked improved. I was worried that Melo wouldn't improve at all. Saw some improvement but still a long way to go. Pressey looked better once he settled down. Pressey's 2nd half was better. He might have a chance. Otherwise I agree with your post.

Sounds like Moe's a fan of KO after today's game. :D
