No problem. Maybe the Sixers forum is full of his high school classmates. :lol:

You are kidding right? We are obviously not trying to contend this year. Maybe next year and definitely the year after... and with the new repeater tax and other penalties for tax teams (no S&Ts etc) it will be easier to contend the next couple years if we DON'T go into the tax this year.

So I'm not surprised if Ainge wants to hang onto Bass if he is trying to win this season since Asik is not the last piece of a title contender.

Couldn't disagree more. Asik will be paid about 6 or 7 Million more then he is worth next year. CHUMP CHANGE. Our owners A. Have the money B. Are going to get a huge tax windfall this year C. Trust Danny.

And here is the big one... D. With Asik we have a real chance at the second round of the playoffs (the 7+8th seed in the East is going to be a Terrible team this year). If we make the second round of the playoffs... the owners will make WAY more then 7 million extra in playoff revenue.

And oh yeah... E. even if we get him... who says Asik will even be on the team next year?

It's not at all chump change, but it can be largely offset by sending out more than we take back, as Asik is only paid $5-5.5m this year.

Good point Caveman! So this years salary + next years kinda evens out. But really... playoff revenue would more then make up for it regardless.

Is there a better complimentary big man to add to this current team than Asik ? I'm finding it hard to find one and he just screams of being a perfect fit on this current roster. I don't see how this move wouldn't work well for now and going forward. It would be a huge steal for Danny.

"candidates including" - means "or" not "and". And... there is been many reports that they want Green... but that doesn't mean DA wants to give them Green. I "want" Durant... but...

They don't want the two of them. They are just two of the five players that the Rockets are apparently pursuing.

Latest from Stein:

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10156 ... s-emerging

* Celtics emerging.

* Millsap perhaps top target.

* Neither Sixers nor Celts dissuaded by balloon payment, while Hawks et al may be.

* Cleveland more likely to be a 3rd team, and want Jeff Green, who they pursued as a free agent in 2012. Prefer Varejao to Asik.

* Implication that Rockets would get a Cavs 1st rounder in that scenario (my read, anyhow).

* Sixers appear to be the fallback trade, for Hawes and a pick, but looking for 3rd team.

* Bass in play.

* Rockets hesitant about Green and Thaddeus because of 2 year remaining.

Hopefully it's this version:

BOS gets: Asik

PHI gets: Humphries, Bogans

HOU gets: Hawes, Brooks

No picks

I understand the issues surrounding the repeater tax and why the owners will look to avoid it. My point is that the team could be in a position to contend in the weak East and it would be a shame if they came up short over this and next season because they came up short in terms of what they're willing to spend.

I don't want to get too far out ahead of this thing here but adding Rondo/Asik to what this team is doing now could put the Celtics in a position to be neck and neck with Miami and Indy.

Ok, as I see it:
- Cleveland is out cause they are not getting Green
- Atlanta is out because Milsap is more complete player and playing really good this season

Its between us or Philly or maybe a 3 way between teams.

Humphries, pick to PHI
Hawes, Brooks to HOU
Asik to BOS

If we can keep Bass/Green and get Asik, this would be amazing. It would definitely let us compete with Indiana, who depend on size pretty much and with Asik/Sully and Bass/Favs off the bench, we'd have 1 of the best, if not the best big man rotation in the league...

I still think it would be impossible to get Asik without giving up Bass tho.. Danny should try to just offer LAC pick/Bass/Brooks for Asik, imo that's a pretty fair deal, maybe the Rockets come out on top in this 1 since Bass has been playing really good basketball, probably having the best year of his career.
Good assessment:

Enough with Jeff Green. He is a nice player. He is a solid player. He is not a player you build around as top-3 guy. He has a 15.41 PER and ranks 14th among starting SFs. That makes him league average. He is a solid defender, not a great one. Celtics have a chance to acquire a premier defensive center for an average SF and average PF without giving up any picks.

Contending to be third in the East with no realistic chance of beating eight or 10 other clubs in the league is a terrible reason to hit the repeater tax and start thinking short term.

I think the dark horse team is NO. They need a big C next to Davis. Austin Rivers rumors probably are part of 3 way deal.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."
