No I think Rondo after possibly being told by his agent that a deal was reached and perhaps talked with his agent and said... I'm not interested in signing in Sacramento after next season or this off-season. The Kings hear that news and their enthusiasm for a trade pretty much disappears. Heck Rondo is smart enough that he may have told his agent to say NO when Ainge calls him with a Sacramento deal.
So you think a deal was actually reached today? Highly doubt it. I think it's common knowledge around the league that players like Melo and Rondo will wait until their contracts are up before signing a new one. Not because they want to leave their teams, but because it only makes financial sense. It was probably less "I won't resign with Sac" .. And more "I will play out my contract regardless if I'm traded or not"
I agree with you that there is a good chance that Rondo lets his deal play out until the end of next year. If he is feeling really good by the end of this year, he may take that gamble. I just think there is a damn good chance Rondo said the Kings aren't a team he is interested in signing with and that killed the a tentative deal.
If you were Rondo and grew up in (I believe) Kentucky, would you want to go to the rebuilding Kings in the tough WC in an unglamorous part of California. Sacramento is not LA or San Francisco Bay area. I sure wouldn't and I wouldn't want the pressure to resign with them so I would tell them the truth. Thanks but not thanks.
A deal clearly wasn't completely reached but it may have been reached just contingent upon Rondo saying he was at least very open to the possibility of signing with Sacramento after next season. Ainge will probably deny it since he pretty much has too unless its so damn obvious that it can't be credibly denied.
