Look, my position on KL hasn't changed - I don't want him here if he doesn't want to be with us.

But certainly times have changed. No one is giving the Spurs the time of day, the Spurs don't like/want to deal with LAL, and they'd prefer sending him East. Danny can grab him for a reasonable package right now if he wants to, that doesn't involve any picks or assets needed to get Anthony Davis. IF and I mean IF the C's can convince KL to buy into a championship team this year and agree to stay long-term for a short contract (eg. even 2 years), that's worth the package. Assuming 2 years, you're gambling that Jaylen isn't better than Kawhi presently or for us in the future over 2 years.

The framework of a trade at this point would work with Brown + LAC pick + BOS '19 pick, and I would pull the trigger on that for a verbal agreement to stay more than a year.

They lost a couple of rotation players vital to their spacing without comparable replacements.

Midseason buyout players rarely make an impact esp in the playoffs.

They'll have cap room next summer. But I meant they got weaker for upcoming season.

Theoretically smart agrees to this because he gets paid. Like he wants and being in Texas compared to mass the taxes make a big difference too.

It's not perfect but I assume the money sways him in this scenario.

The best asset I would give up for Kawhi now is the Memphis first. If the Spurs want more, give them the dial tone. Kawhi is the biggest flight risk in america.

Even then, it depends on which draft picks we're talking about.

Sac and Memphis? No thanks. Even assuming he's only a 1 year rental, we don't know how motivated the dude will be to play his best consistently if he's not where he wants to be. We don't even know if he's actually healthy, for that matter.

Smart, Morris, and like...the Memphis pick is all I'd happily offer without starting to cringe. And I think what that translates to is I just don't want Kawhi on the Celtics next year.
