We will see, hope I'm wrong because there's a couple other guys I'd love to see there at 16, but it is what it is.

Honestly, this pick has trade written all over it

I personally believe that pick has a better chance being included in a Kemba trade than the Celtics keeping it

I don't love me much Kemba, but we stand to lose a lot of talent that way.

4 years left on Tatums deal. 3 years left on Jaylens. Both could realistically force their way out in 2 years.

No chance we use the pick. The time to draft and develop is gone. Either trade it for the best vet we can or use it as part of dumping Kemba for a useful player.

Packing up Kemba + no. 16 pick might be doable.

It just depends what we get in return.

If we trade Kemba + Kai Jones (just saying hypothetically the pick turns out to be Jones) and don't get anything good in return, that trade makes us a worse team in both the short term and the long term.

If we get a star player in return, then sure, let's do it. Not sure how good of a player we could get for Kemba + Kai Jones, though.

It could simply be getting nothing in return except cap space - to then use the cap space to sign a star free agent but a) that's risky because what if you aren't able to sign the free agent you're targeting - then you're screwed and b) it would be near impossible to trade Kemba + Kai Jones for nothing but freeing up cap space, because the team that acquires kemba would be going way over the salary cap if they add a $36 mil player and don't send out any salary (or send out barely any salary)..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

I think if a pick is traded to dump Kemba, it will be next year's pick (2022). This year's pick is probably too high (16) for danny to use in a salary dump. He'll probably attach the 2022 pick hoping it will be worse than this year's.

Danny will NOT use a pick to dump Kemba. Have people not been paying attention these past 18 years? Doing so would admit he made a mistake signing him. His hubris likely makes him believe teams should be sending US a first rounder to get him lol. I really can't see Kemba leaving until the trade deadline when he's an expiring and then it'll just be a swap of expiring contracts not for anything we actually need. I think by then, Tatum will be fed up and demand out. We're kinda screwed. Just use the picks and draft an upgrades over the scrubs on our bench. Hopefully by the time Kemba leaves one of them develops into something special and becomes one of our core. In the meantime they'll improve our bench so it's a win win.

if the 2022 pick is worse than 16, that's better for us. But GM of opposing team's will likely want the better pick, so they're more likely to accept a deal if it's the 2021 pick..

I feel like teams only see value in trading for a pick if it's a lottery pick, otherwise, what's the point?

catch 22..

I mean sure, but I think people on here are generally overrating how tough it is going to be dump kemba's contract in general. The number is big but he only has two years left on it. When you have two years left on the deal, all the team has to eat is the first year and then after that you have a really attractive big salary expiring that can be used in trades for salary matching. It's basically a TPE in a sense at that point. Al Horford had 3 years left and he was dumped for a future 1st. Picks as high as 16 are generally not used in salary dumps.

Fair point and solid argument for trading the pick. After all, we need to get older as a team, not younger. We're one of the youngest teams in the league. These are the 10 youngest teams in the league: Thunder, T Wolves, Grizzlies, Magic, Pistons, Pelicans, Kings, Celtics, Hornets, Spurs. Of those teams, none of them are contenders and most are at the bottom of the standings.

We have all these young guys we're trying to develop (Pritchard, Nesmith, langford, time lord, grant W, etc.) so we should just focus on developing them and not adding more young guys. Not to mention we have Yam Madar we could bring over who's only 20 years old..

We have holes on this roster, but you could argue that we should fill those holes with veterans, not rookies..

That being said, until Ainge actually trades the pick I'll keep speculating on good prospects we could take with it :)

This is what I want, again, for the 8th consecutive year. Draft nothing but centers that are actually big, and or the best passers available. Nobody amidst injury, no *** that's sat on his thumb for 4 years. No 6'7" centers or undersized forwards. 7 footers that move better than a stump, and a mfer that can pass the ball. That's it.

SG might not exactly be a position of need. But if you're in the "pick the best player available, screw need" camp, you should hope this guy falls to us at 16:

Dude's game is like Bradley Beal, except Bouknight is 2 inches taller.

Jalen Green is a consensus top 4 pick, but Bouknight looks like he's possibly just as good as Green, not as good an outside shooter but a better defender.

Most mocks I've seen, Bouknight is going in the 9-13 range but you never know, he could fall to us..

Check out the bananas play he makes at the 4:46 mark and at 5:29..

Edit: now seeing he only shot 29% from 3 and other red flags. (ball dominant, forces shots, goes isolation too much, average at best defensively) so I am moving him down a little bit. Still seems like the 10-15 range is about right for him..

If the BPA is a shooting guard then we have to trade one of ours for another position. but BPA for me means by far the BPA. Most of the players around the teens have similar Tier levels IMO. Also don't want a player who would take the ball out of Tatum's and Brown's hands.

Think it’s easy to think SGs are the “best” player available because they might do a thing or two that looks like MJ or Kobe if you blur your eyes. And if you were going to sit in a gym and just watch one “archetype” of a player do things alone on an empty basketball court, you’d pick that sort of guy ahead of a set-the-table PG or an energy-big, since they’d look the most “impressive” in terms of what you think a great basketball player should look like.

But you’d build a **** team if you just keep picking SGs again and again. AND .. that’s kind of where we are.

It's not like we have a lot of SG types. We have Nesmith and Langford who are 6'4. Who else? Jaylen is a forward who had been pushed into the "SG" role. Fournier is an UFA.

I was thinking about how we used back-to-back lottery picks on SGs, and also have Smart, Brown, and hopefully Fournier on the roster.

Anyone have any thoughts about how a Brad Stevens pick might differ from a Danny Ainge pick?
