Thought he was the best player today. Didn't play a ton, but repeatedly made the right decision on both ends. Showed progress as a playmaker, putting the ball on the floor or back to the basket and hitting cutters. I think right now he's a better player than Draymond Green or Al Horford and still improving every year. 4/52 is solid if you can get it.

I'm beginning to get the feeling I once had about Mike Vrabel of the Patriots -- this guy projects to be a hell of a coach some day. The reasons shared in the two cases are:

-- He plays a lot of positions and roles with good understanding.
-- He has an appropriately extroverted and/or charismatic personality.

(For those who don't follow American football: Mike Vrabel played 6 of the 11 positions on defense at a pretty high level, and a 7th once as a gimmick. He also played an offensive position, situationally, but at a high enough level in those situations to actually set some records. And he played yet more roles yet in the third category, which is "special teams".)

(For those who do know the sport, but don't recall Vrabel on the Patriots: He was an OLB/DE as his base position. He switched to ILB for a season and did fine at it. He was a goalline-only TE who was pretty automatic on 1-yd TD passes, and set some trivial receiving records accordingly. And his many ST roles included punt coverage, so between that and the TE role he was doing a fair amount of blocking.)
Banned temporarily for, among other sins, being "Extremely Deviant".

When's the extension deadline? I'd love to see him get extended.

Grant Williams last season was in the 5th percentile for defensive on off. He rates poorly on defense by every existing and available advanced metrics. Aside from some highlights, the eye test isn’t very kind on him either. As much as I want him to succeed, it’s getting harder to ignore his defense and minimal contributions on offense.

haha. Love Grant's personality. Such a smart, savvy player too.

Extend him already!
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Grant in his bag:

Read on Twitter

Had these 2 moves tonight. Had the hesi in the last game.

Last year he had that 1 move where he went coast on the break and then throw up the lob on the move.

The dude just keeps getting better.

Made a couple sick passes earlier in the preseason.

Continues to improve his 3 pt shot throughout his career.

Literally the best guy in the freaking league in terms of creating good vibes, positive energy with his teammates so everyone is loose and having fun. and liking each other.

Really hope both sides can come to an agreement on an extension.

Im only half kidding but I think he already has a better skip pass then Jaylen. Grant's continued success off the dribble is a big thing and will help separate him from the PJ Tucker mold. He has good vision and it shows in these preseason games. I'm sceptic he has enough scoring threat to leverage in actual NBA games but the driving and dishing off closeouts should stick and will be a valuable element for the C's. If he can manifest a consistent floater, we're really in business cause now you can just play him for the pass and his finishing is still hit or miss when there's bigger players in the paint.

Sign him to an extension just for the sake of making it easier to make him our future head coach.

Baaaby Grant getting his money, he's always with Tatum. They can justify sending his best friend away once...

Really, pay Grant!!!! He's a good guy and player! I'd pour sealant in my ears after a week of friendship, but I love his personality so I'll be okay. :)

at this point they should try and wrap the extension up soon, so it doesn't become a distraction for the team - for Grant in particular.

I'm guessing the Celtics want like $12-$13 mil a year and Grant's agent wants $15-$17 mil (the more Grant makes, the more the agent makes, obviously). They might also just be working out stuff with incentives..

Or maybe Grant's camp is waiting to see how much Jordan Poole gets on his extension. And Poole's extension hasn't been finalized yet because his camp is waiting to see how much Grant gets on his extension

The good news on the Grant extension front is that both Larry Nance Jr. and Maxi Kleber, who are similar players to him, got around $11 mil per year in their extensions.

Grant's upside is higher than theirs but that allows the middle ground to be somewhere around $14 mil guaranteed for Grant imo.

Honestly for as good as Grant is at BS and leverage, I’d bet he/his camp are looking at $20M per.

And with the cap going up and Al coming off the books, I’m not sure he doesn’t get it.

I'd be very surprised if he was asking for that much. The Celtics payroll is going to be huge for years to come and he probably knows the team isn't going close to that high; I don't even think the craziest offer sheet he could get would be that high, I think the highest anyone in free agency would go for him is like $17-18M.

I was wrong about Hayward getting a lot a few years ago, but I think that Grant probably wants around $16-17M and the Celtics are at $12-13M, which is why they've got to find a middle ground.

Guys who don’t score a lot generally don’t get paid a lot. 20 seems high for a guy who put up 8/4/1 in 24 minutes last year. Very streaky in the playoffs. Some great games some stinkers. Grant needs to take his game to another level before I give him 20/year
