Re: 2023 NBA Draft
Another sleeper I like...
Jordan Miller.
Cons
-He's old, recently turned 23
-While he's good at basically everything, there isn't anything he is elite at
-Some people are skeptical about his shooting, since he's a 5th year senior who didn't shoot well from 3 prior to this season - and even this season he shot good but not great (35% from 3 on moderate volume)
Pros
-NBA ready, 23 yrs old so ready to come in and contribute from day 1
-Wing
-Extremely versatile on both ends of the floor.
-Plays with a toughness, an edge, a chip on his shoulder, a fearlessness
-He actually played most of his mins this season at the 4. With his toughness, athleticism and ability to rebound the basketball, can certainly play the 4 in the NBA. But his best position at the next level is the 3. It's definitely a plus, to have the versatility to play either spot
Ok, let's dive deeper.
This article gives a good rundown on Miller:
https://www.noceilingsnba.com/p/err-on-the-side-of-jordan-projecting
In that article, they break down areas of Miller's game that are strengths, with clips to show him performing well in those areas:
-Shooting from 3
-Being able to create his own shot off the bounce, and score in isolation
-Passing
-Cutting
-Ball handling
-Crashing the offensive boards for put-backs / tip-ins
-Interior defense/rim protection
-Perimeter defense / switchability
I know what you're thinking. A 6'7" wing who can do all of these things well. Can play the 3 or the 4. And plays with a toughness/edge/urgency...he's gotta be a lottery pick, right?
Most mocks right now have him as a late 2nd rounder. Mainly because he's so old (23) and is a late bloomer who wasn't even really on draft radars until this year's NCAA tournament.
He had a huge game in the elite 8, to lead Miami past Texas and into the Final 4:
Lastly, here's a short video that gives us a glimpse into Miller's well rounded game:

Tough choice tonight. A POR loss almost locks up #35 since their final two games are vs. GSW and LAC. However, San Antonio losing out would mean at least a 50/50 chance of #33.

Nice, so this confirms that one of the two picks will go to OKC because of the Muscala trade.

Sounds like we get either:
- 2 picks, HOU & MIA, and send POR to OKC.
- 1 pick: POR, and send MIA to OKC. HOU keeps theirs.
So, we root for POR tonight, imo.

Re: 2023 NBA Draft
lol, POR just blatantly tanking at this point. Beyond Dame, Simons, Nurk and Grant, they aren't even playing Sharpe or Reddish for reps. Down 69-61 at half to the Spurs.

Big fan of Noah Clowney.
Versatile big man on both ends of the floor. Plays hard. One of the youngest players in the class, too. Doesn't turn 19 till July.
If we get the 33rd pick and he's there, you take him.
In this video, watch how smooth he looks on the first play as he catches it, squares up and hits the 3. He's only 18 and he's 6'10" !

I'd love it, but I don't see a mock where he lasts that long anymore.
Ringer has him at 23 (GG at 22). nbadraftroom at 27. tankathon at 31 is the lowest.
Obviously, they're just mocks, but I'd rather move up and get him for sure.
Would be nice if HOU would help us out for our trade up. But, I think PP/35 could still get you into the 20s. Several options with BKN, IND having multiple, MEM with our deal history, POR with the PP/Oregon thing. But, I haven't really looked at actual deals where PP would go. Just seems super logical given he wants more opportunities, we have JD, and I want to move up, lol.

Yeah, you never know. Every year there's guys who slip a little deeper into the 2nd round than people thought. This site has Clowney at 31.
https://www.noceilingsnba.com/p/2023-nba-draft-big-board-v6
This guy has Clowney at 39.
I'm not getting my hopes up that we trade up into the 1st round. Just doesn't seem to be Brad's style. He prefers proven vets and hates 1st round picks.
Right now, for bigs I like Clowney and Oso Ighodaro (or if it's later in the draft, Eli N'Diaye and you stash him). For wings I like Jordan Miller and Jordan Walsh (or if it's later in the draft, Bobi Klintman). If we get 1 of those guys, I'm happy. If we get 2 of them (1 big and 1 wing) I'd be doing back flips haha.
Walsh and Ighodaro have not officially declared for the draft, yet. Keeping an eye out for news on whether they declare..
For bigs who could be there in the 33-40 range, I also like Bona and Jackson-Davis. And for a wing 3/4 type guy, if it's later in the draft I also like Leaky Black.
Lots of guys who could go 2nd round of this draft I think could be good picks for us. Then there's also Kevin McCullar and Andre Jackson, a couple other wings who have that dawg in them. And if he somehow falls to the 33-40 range, I'd also like Kris Murray - I'm thinking he probably goes 1st round, though..
Watch, we'll get none of these guys I just named lol

I like Walsh a lot as well. And I'll give you your "you never know" back about the trade up.

So, most likely, no trade up and Clowney's gone by 35. But, for now, I can have fun with the idea.

And I'll give you your "you never know" back about the trade up.I think it's a little early yet to pigeon hole all of Brad's moves, but the trend is definitely what you say. It's more likely we do nothing, or trade Pritchard in a package in the summer rather than at draft.

Hey, I'd like to be wrong about this. If we trade up and get Clowney at like 22 or 23, that's fine with me. He's #18 on my big board, and I could see a case for putting him at like 15 or 16.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Re: 2023 NBA Draft
One thing we do know, the Celtics will only have one pick in this Draft... Take it away B Robb:
Currently, that pick stands at No. 35 overall although it could fall anywhere between No. 35-39 based on how the final standings shake out. If Boston does get the Rockets’ pick (No. 33 or worse), the C’s will send their Blazers pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of the terms of the deal to acquire Mike Muscala back at the trade deadline.
If the Rockets’ pick does not convey to Boston, they will keep the Blazers’ pick and send a late second-round pick (Miami’s) to the Thunder to complete the deal.

Good to know. So no matter what, we only get 1 pick.
That's fine. 1 pick is plenty. We don't have enough roster spots for more than 1 pick. And we're a contender so the priority is filling roster spots with vets over young kids anyways.
Plus, (depending on the terms of his deal) adding Champagnie is basically like adding a draft pick. And if we only get 1 pick - and since Champagnie is a wing, plus we have another wing stashed overseas (Begarin), I am thinking perhaps we prioritize a PF/C type of guy with this pick.
I thought perhaps there was a scenario where we'd get 2 2nd round picks but I guess not.

OKC gets our 2nd best pick. If it's POR/MIA - that's POR. If we have HOU, POR, MIA, that's POR.
I believe we keep 2 if we get the HOU one. We send the POR pick to OKC in that scenario not the MIA one. I believe that means we keep the MIA one as well. Though, it could be owed to someone else for some reason I haven't seen yet. The article doesn't specifically address that.
