Inefficient but productive.

Shooting was the only issue for JT in that run.

Only two players in NBA history have recorded 13,000 pts, 4,000 rebounds, and 2,000 assists before the age of 27 -- Lebron and Tatum.

3pt shooting % pulling down Tatum's FG%.

If it keeps JT healthy and not get hurt then chucking 3s in the regular season is fine.

Didn't I say March?
March is usually the time when the MVP voters will notice who the real candidates are.

But yeah, the ship has sailed because of the Celtics record.

If the Cs are the #1 seed or closer to the Cavs record then the MVP would still be in play right now.

Little did you know he'd be out of the race before March lol

But not because of his performance.

Tatum still won NBA player of the week last January 6.

Reason Tatum is looking out of the race is because of the Celtics record.

If the Celtics go on a winning streak and win maybe 12 to 15 straight games and it's still March, Tatum will be right back in the race.

He went like two straight months shooting 32% from three lol. It's definitely due to his performance

Come on, you can't be that shortsighted.

3pt shooting is only part of the MVP conversation.

Production and impact are bigger factors than 3pt shooting %.

Take the case of SGA.
SGA is in the top 2 or 3 in the MVP conversation right now.
But SGA is only shooting 35.1% from 3pt land.

Tatum is 35% right now, but that will get better over time.

So if the MVP is just about 3pt shooting then SGA, at 35.1%, will not be in the race also.

Shooting horrendous percentages 100% takes you out of the MVP race lol. That's a given. If SGA was shooting like 12 threes a game at 32%, he wouldn't be in the race either. He doesn't take nearly as many, and lo and behold he's the much more efficient scorer overall.

Like I said, JT is inefficient right now.
That's a given.
So the only way JT gets to be a part of the MVP race is if the Celtics are dominating the regular season.

JT can make up for inefficiency with production and impact.

Sure SGA is very efficient shooting the ball.
But for a starting PG that gets around 34 minutes per game, SGA's 6 assists per game is underwhelming.

Seriously, SGA is just 22nd in assists per game and he's a PG.

Austin Reaves has a higher assist average than SGA.

The MVP is about the player's overall abilities.

If SGA is just great at scoring then he will not win MVP.

If you don't really think about it and just be casual about JT's mindset, you're going to come to the conclusion that he's crazy chucking all those 3s.

But if you analyze it deeper, it's looking like JT wants to get comfortable with the 3pt shot.

Who shoots better under pressure in the playoffs and finals will win the championship.

We already saw this in 2022 when JT scored 46 points and went 7-15 from 3pt land to force a Game 7 against the Bucks.

#5 seed Dallas had no business beating #1 OKC in the west semis last season.
But SGA and OKC didn't shoot as well in the playoffs compared to the regular season.

That's why I think JT deserves the benefit of the doubt because he's doing something that he knows will pay off in the postseason.
