Pretty much all the Simons trades that don't have CELTs sending draft capital out, have Celts taking back a smaller per year monied contract but with more years.

We've been talking about Kuzma, KCP, Konchar, Brandon Clarke, Terance Mann, etc

We are saving money this year, which is what matters.

I would do this

I'm not so sure I would. He gets $21,621,500 this year with a player option for the same next year. It would have to be a good pick to offset that second year of obligation. Then again, Brad may have been spooked by the shooting at their SL. Then again, KCP is in his 30s and shot all of .342 from the 3 last year.

Doesn't sound great to me either. I'd prefer a couple of smaller contracts. That second year of KCP that he'll almost assuredly pick up, looks bad. Doubting this one unless it's a decent pick cooking back.

Much like the case for Kuzma, they don't have many contracts to match for trades next year. And KCP is a helpful player. I'd still be trying to move him, but, they should want to get one contract notably over the minimum that will stay on the books next year.

Yeah, right!

6m is not significant enough for the drop off in talent.

Cs can easily shed 6m by moving a player or two.

Yeah, right!

Celtics would save $40+ miillion this year if they did a straight Simons for KCP trade.

6 million (difference between Simons and KCP) times 6.75 repeater tax = $40.5 million

People need to understand, this year is all about the money. Money decisions are on the menu for 2025/2026. Basketball decisions will be in 2026/2027.

At least with Simons we get a dynamic scoring guard.

Let's not forget how bad KCP was in the 1st rnd against the Cs.

KCP was absolute trash in that series.

Whatever you save this season will be paid back next season as KCP has 21.6m remaining next season.

Doesn't make sense.

OK. We're gonna be out of the Repeater Tax though, Right?
Stevens isn't doing all this, to end up over the 2nd Apron.

Celtics are in the repeater tax until they get out of paying the luxury tax.

On its face, and just for the 6M savings, doesn't seem great. From the perspective of trading for a center next summer, maybe having a 21m salary and an extra pick to throw in for it, well, I could maybe talk myself into it. I suppose that's what you'd be hoping for if this does go down. Requires a lot of copium.

Cope may play the entire season for the C's but I'd bet my bottom dollar he won't play a second for the C's next season.

May even get another draft for him :D

I read a report the Cs were talking to Memphis last week because the Cs wanted to sign Dame.

But since Dame already signed with Portland, no more urgency to get a deal done with Memphis.

So we're going to pretend that 28 other teams didn't see KCP play in that 1st rnd series against Boston?

Celtics would save $40 million because of the repeater tax

I see your point and kinda came around on it, too. The only reason would be the salary and hopefully a decent pick to include in a trade next summer.
